Chapter 449: Chapter 449: Three Conditions

Eleanor sighed deeply at the system prompt, her shoulders slumping as the last glimmer of hope faded again.

She had already waited several days after arriving in the foreign country, hiding herself in a remote hotel so that Mateo wouldn’t be able to find her.

She had hoped the system would quickly reassign her role and give her a new main lead.

But despite waiting day after day, nothing changed. Each morning, she woke up with a jolt, only to be disappointed by the same silent, empty interface.

And so, on the fourth day, when she finally heard a familiar, crisp ring echo through her mind, Eleanor nearly dropped the glass she was holding. Her heart leapt to her throat.

The moment she heard the ding, Eleanor’s eyes widened. She stared at the air in front of her with a trembling, excited expression. For a split second, she didn’t even dare breathe.

Sure enough, a soft mechanical voice finally spoke.

[Ding! Congratulations host! The main lead has been reassigned from Mateo to Theodore.]

Eleanor gasped. Her hands shot up to cover her mouth as her eyes began to sparkle.

"Thank you... Thank you, thank you, thank you..." she murmured repeatedly, clenching her fists in pure excitement.

She had been waiting for this...dreaming of this.

Mateo had always been nothing but a thick-headed troublemaker in her mind. If in his teenage years, he has the audacity to betray her, then... who knows what kind of person he might turn out to be during his adulthood.

Maybe he would be better at hiding his emotions... but he still would be a b*stard who loves no one other than himself.

Theodore, however... he was gentle, handsome, and desperately attentive to her in the original timeline. He was the perfect choice.

But the system wasn’t finished.

[Even though Theodore has been assigned the role of main lead, he must still prove himself. He is currently a quasi-main lead. Only after fulfilling certain conditions can he be transformed into the full main lead.]

Eleanor blinked. "What conditions?" she asked immediately.

[There are three,] the system replied.

She crossed her arms, legs bouncing lightly as she leaned forward. "Tell me."

[First,] the system began, [Theodore’s affection level must reach one hundred percent.]

Eleanor snorted. "That’s it? I already achieved half of that in the past three years if it wasn’t for the accident... Theodore would have become obsessed with me in the next two years."

[That is true,] the system replied. [In fact, his affection level wasn’t merely one hundred percent. It can surpass one hundred percent, which was the reason he was never assigned as a male lead. Levels beyond that threshold indicate obsession... unhealthy fixation. Such individuals become villains instead.]

Eleanor’s lips curled upward. "Honestly, that sounds more like an advantage to me."

The system disagreed immediately.

[It is not. Obsession surpassing stability parameters is considered dangerous. The administration does not approve of yandere-type leads.]

Eleanor pouted deeply. "But there are yandere male leads in some worlds!"

[Those are from outdated archives. The current administration does not support them anymore.]

"Hmph." Eleanor crossed her arms childishly. "Even if that’s the case, Theodore is still a cutie. Making him a villain is too harsh."

The system hesitated. If it had a physical form, it would have been sweating.

It remembered clearly how Eleanor herself once called Theodore a foolish, naïve puppy and not very smart. But it wasn’t foolish enough to repeat that now. Instead, it moved to the next condition.

[The second condition is that Theodore cannot have any other woman in his heart other than you. Not even his sisters.] 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Hearing that, Eleanor’s expression instantly brightened. "Oh, that is definitely my favorite condition."

Her eyes narrowed dangerously. "I’m tired of those three annoying girls around him. Adriana, Olivia, Aurora... ugh." She rolled her eyes.

"If someone asked me to name my nemesis, I wouldn’t even hesitate. It would be those three bitches."

As she spoke, her irritation rose.

"Adriana," Eleanor grumbled, "always smiling politely but looking at me with that cold, detached gaze. As if I wasn’t worth her time. I warmed up to her so much over the years, but she still acted distant. And her philosophy of love? Terrible. Completely broken woman. I only tolerated her because I needed her skills. If I had a choice, I wouldn’t even bother to greet her once."

Next, she complained about Olivia.

"At first, she was nice to me," Eleanor said. "But the moment Mateo showed up, she suddenly changed. Cold, distant, even scolding me. She acted heartbroken when Mateo and I started dating, when she never even liked him! She’s such a two-faced witch."

Had Eleanor looked closer back then, she might have realized Olivia wasn’t jealous of her but disgusted by Mateo.

Olivia had always tried to warn her, but Eleanor had blindly taken every warning as jealousy. Now, however, she was completely immersed in her own narrative.

"And... Aurora," Eleanor hissed.

Her hands clenched tightly.

"That woman ruined everything. Every time I thought I had Theodore’s forgiveness, she would pop up like a cockroach and ’testify’ against me, adding extra spices to the story! Theodore would get furious, and my favorability would drop again. She’s the worst of them all."

Her jaw tightened. "Honestly, those three shouldn’t even be his sisters. They’re... arrogant brats who need a lesson."

She sighed heavily, rubbing her temples.

"If possible, I should find a way to sow discord between Theodore and those girls. Life would be so much easier if they were out of the picture."

She was desperate to see those three woman cry when their own brother would distance himself from them for her!

’I will click a picture when they cry to see it later whenever I am in a bad mood.’

The system pretended not to hear the last line and instead moved on.

[The third condition,] it said, [is simple. Theodore must reach a net worth of ten billion dollars at least once in his lifetime.]

Eleanor froze. "...Ten billion?"

"Yes."

Her left eye twitched. "But he’s an actor. Even if he becomes famous, he’s not going to earn billions per project."

The system remained silent, as if quietly agreeing.

Eleanor sank into thought. ’This is one of the hardest conditions... unless...’

Slowly, a grin crept onto her lips.

"I can just change his career," she muttered. "Or even better... use Theodore’s money to invest in the properties mentioned in the novel. I remember which ones skyrocketed in value. If I invest early, I can turn small funds into enormous profit."

Her grin widened. "Once we marry, his wealth becomes mine. With my intelligence, reaching ten billion wouldn’t be difficult at all."

The more she thought about it, the more energized she felt. She couldn’t help but smile triumphantly.

The system, seeing her enthusiasm, added,

[If these three conditions are met, Mateo will be permanently dethroned from his male-lead status. Theodore will take his place.]

Eleanor clapped excitedly. "Serves him right! That bastard insulted me so much. Let his halo be taken away... he deserves it."

The system spoke again.

[Since Mateo’s male-lead position is threatened, the administration has temporarily removed his status. He is now a false male lead. All halo privileges have been withdrawn.]

Eleanor practically glowed with satisfaction. "Good. Very good."

Unable to hold back her joy, she flopped back onto the hotel bed, laughing softly. Finally, things were going her way. Now she only needed to stay close to Theodore and dedicate all her time to him.

Meanwhile...

In a hotel across the city, Mateo suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest. It was so sudden and so intense that he stumbled backward. He clutched his heart tightly.

"What... what’s happening?" he whispered through gritted teeth. A cold sweat broke across his forehead.

The strange ache only intensified, as if something precious had been torn away from him. His breathing grew shallow, his vision slightly blurred.

’Is this a panic attack?’ he wondered desperately. ’I need my medicine... quick.’

His hands shook violently as he searched his luggage, drawers, jacket pockets... everywhere. But he couldn’t find the small bottle.

"Dammit..." he hissed.

With trembling fingers, he dialed Eleanor’s number.

The ringtone played. Once. Twice. Ten times. No answer.

His vision dimmed at the edges.

Finally, he gave up and called his assistant.

"Help..." Mateo whispered as soon as the call connected. "Medicine..."

His assistant lived nearby, thankfully. Within minutes, the man rushed into the hotel, using the master key to unlock Mateo’s door.

Whenever Mateo traveled to other countries, he always brought assistants and handed the master key or the duplicate key in case an emergency arose.

The moment he entered, he found Mateo half-collapsed on the floor, pale and breathing unevenly.

The assistant quickly located the missing medicine, placed it in Mateo’s shaking hand, and helped him swallow it.

Only after several agonizing minutes did Mateo’s breathing steady. His shoulders relaxed as the pain slowly faded.

He let out a long, weak breath of relief.
