Bloodline of the Wizard-Chapter 45 - Anger
Chapter 45: Chapter 45 Anger
Chapter 45 -45 Anger
The next morning, Ronan and his companions left the inn where they had spent the night and entered a small tavern that looked reasonably priced.
With the sun just rising, the tavern was already quite busy, though most patrons looked as if they hadn’t slept a wink.
The constant buzz of conversation filled the tavern as Ronan’s group casually chose a round table to sit at and ordered their respective breakfasts.
After a night’s rest, Ronan noticed that everyone was in good spirits.
Old Wells’ complexion was noticeably better, though he occasionally coughed lightly.
“Later, I’ll go and find someone…
Andre and his sister, Jolin…”
Old Wells listed a few names and when mentioning Linus, Ronan frowned but didn’t say anything, just asked, “Do you know where they are?”
“Not sure about the others.”
Old Wells responded, “But based on my understanding of the Half-Elf siblings Andre, they probably wouldn’t choose to come into the city even if they’ve arrived, so I am planning to take Vinicia and Cheryl to look around the outskirts of the town…”
“It’s a bit dangerous for the three of you to go alone.”
Ronan shook his head, “Let them accompany me instead.”
With the influx of wizards into the town the day before, the place was chaotic with a mix of all sorts.
Ronan was concerned that Old Wells, leading a group of the old and weak, could encounter trouble.
“I need to take care of some things with them, and at the same time look for a house…”
Now that they were officially relocating to town, they urgently needed a long-term place to stay.
They couldn’t always sleep in inns, as their money bags would not sustain that.
Old Wells did not oppose Ronan’s suggestion, and by then, everyone’s breakfast had arrived.
Ronan didn’t even know what he had ordered.
Looking at the mushy mess on his plate and thinking about its cost— a quarter of a Magic Stone—diminished his appetite even further.
While they were eating, wizards at nearby tables chatted away, naturally discussing the Black Robe invasion.
Someone mentioned that the wizard villages hidden in family compounds near Hoddam had all been slaughtered by the Black Robes the day before, their corpses turned into Undead Puppets.
Someone else spoke of a large group of Advanced Apprentices hurriedly leaving the Central Academy at dawn, looking like reinforcements against the Black Witch Land invasion.
There were rumors of an Official Wizard Level Expert battling fiercely in the deep forests to the east, the impact of their Spell clash leveling a small hill.
These were all hearsay, a mix of truth and speculation, and Ronan just listened in for the excitement.
Suddenly, a voice rose in the tavern.
“Did you see that ship departing from the academy last night?”
As these words were spoken, the entire tavern fell silent at once.
Ronan clearly saw Old Wells’ hand, which was forking vegetables onto Cheryl’s plate, pause.
Then someone lamented, “Ah, even with a ship, it’s not our turn to leave…
Who knows when the next chance to get away from Hoddam will come…”
No more words were spoken, and silence fell upon everyone.
…
After leaving the tavern, Ronan took Vinicia and Cheryl with him, arranging a meeting place with Old Wells before splitting up.
Old Wells had extensive life experience and a wide network of connections, making him better suited for searching for people.
Ronan led Vinicia and Cheryl to a real estate agency, instructing Vinicia, “You and Cheryl wait here obediently.
If the door opens, go in and ask about the price…
I’ll come back for you later and take you to see the place together.”
Vinicia softly hummed in agreement, obediently standing on the roadside with Cheryl.
Ronan bought them each something similar to a doughnut to nibble on and then hurriedly took another direction.
He followed the straight road in the middle of the three paths at the town’s entrance, the sides lined with lush, evergreen ivy, still bright and glossy in late autumn.
Memories from his previous life awakened in his mind—as he continued down the path, it wouldn’t be long before Ronan would see a huge black iron gate, flanked by wizard statues with owls in black, white, and grey perched atop them…
But before Ronan could lay eyes on the black iron gate from his memory, he found the way forward obscured by a thick, milk-like fog.
He tried to walk into the fog only to be stopped by a glowing Rune Formation.
Ronan was dumbfounded.
How the hell do we go now?
During this critical period, is Hoddam Wizard College not allowing non-college personnel to approach?
Then what about my application for admission?
Ronan hesitated outside the Rune Formation for a long time and after waiting for ages, finally caught someone emerging from the thick fog and the Array.
Wearing a Magic Robe with the emblem of Hoddam Wizard College, he looked very young, obviously a student of the college.
“Hey buddy, how come there’s no way into the college now?
I want to apply for admission.”
Ronan didn’t care how the other person saw him, or what Strength he had, he grabbed him and asked.
The young wizard, blocked by Ronan, looked very dissatisfied but still coldly answered, “Admission?
Admit to what?
The college stopped recruiting outsiders a few months ago.”
“What?!”
Ronan froze on the spot, somewhat in disbelief, “Stopped recruiting?
Why?
Aren’t they recruiting sit-in students either?”
But the other couldn’t be bothered to say another word, huffed softly, tugged his robe, and walked away straight.
Leaving Ronan standing there silently, alone.
…
“I said this is the price now, take it or leave it.
If you can’t afford it, piss off and don’t block the people lining up behind!”
With bags under his eyes, the thin man waved his hand impatiently, making a dismissing and shooing gesture.
“Huff—”
A large hand tore through the air, suddenly reaching out to grab the collar of the man’s Magic Robe, “Bang!” slamming the man hard against the wooden wall behind, making a shallow dent.
“Did I say I wouldn’t rent?
Can’t I take a look at the place first?
Do you believe I could rip your mouth right now?!”
Ronan’s eyes were cold and hard, his aura strong and chilling, like a beast ready to lash out at any moment.
The man pinned against the wall turned pale, his eyes filled with fear as he looked at Ronan, stuttering, “Let’s… Let’s go… I’ll take you there now…”
Ronan didn’t speak, merely looking down at the man expressionlessly.
But the focus of his gaze seemed not really on the man.
The atmosphere in the tiny room grew more oppressive with the man’s disordered and rapid breathing, and just as he started to sweat profusely from the tension…
Ronan’s hand suddenly relaxed again, letting him down.
“Forget it.”
Ronan spoke indifferently, “I don’t feel like it anymore.”
Having said this, he turned and headed straight for the door.
When he reached the street at the doorway, shouts of frustration came from behind.
“People from the Academy Enforcement Team will be here in a moment…
If you have the guts, don’t leave!”
Ronan squinted his eyes, turned around, and with a “Boom” kicked the agent’s door into smithereens; the hubbub inside suddenly came to an abrupt halt.
“Let’s go.”
After doing all this, he called Vinicia and the other to leave, and the Grey Robed Wizards on the street looking to rent, as well as passers-by, all looked at him as if he was a Monster and promptly cleared a path.
The trio walked in silence past two streets when Ronan suddenly felt someone was tugging at the hem of his robe.
Looking down, he saw Cheryl timidly looking up at him.
Ronan blinked and squatted down to ask, “What’s wrong?”
Cheryl seemed a bit afraid of Ronan, taking a step back, then hesitantly said, “Sister Vini asked me to ask you…
Is it because she’s so useless, couldn’t handle even a small thing, that’s why you got angry..”
“Uh…”
