Chapter 662: Sun And Moon

Lunaria grasped the air with her werewolf hand and sliced across her palm. A crackle sounded as radiant flames seeped from the wound on her palm. The blaze grew longer, forming a curved blade of pure fire, identical to her katana. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

’If I am the Moon, then she is undoubtedly the Sun!’

The second blade raged without restraint.

Lunaria’s cheeks paled the moment she summoned this sword of fire, yet her plump red lips curled upward.

’Kumiko gave these bldaes an interesting name... haha.’

She named the fiery sword Yōkō, meaning Sunlight and the blue sword Gekkō, meaning Moonlight, in Japanese.

"Did you think I didn’t have any other means?"

She observed the wiry zombie while creeping into its range, her sword crackling with each step, her bloody fire hungry for sustenance.

Of course, she got no reply.

The zombie raised its blades, shifting its back foot against the concrete.

’He’s going to rush me.’

She narrowed her lips, sucking the air in quick, shallow breaths, tightening her muscles to the limit, bracing herself for the next clash.

Lunaria’s three hearts slowed, allowing her to focus better.

Once she summoned the blade carrying Selene’s powers, the speed at which her blood arts activated doubled, and she could control the minute movements of her muscles with a single thought or whim.

The world reflected in her eyes transformed.

Countless little red lines formed across the zombie’s figure, a few deep red across its throat, chest and thigh, while the others were faded and pale. This skill a bonus from copulating with Nikolai, a Báthory clan ability.

Life Lines.

The lines which control a creature’s life.

She flicked her fiery blade, holding it across her stomach while her moonlight blade remained above her head. Her heart pounded as she tensed the muscles on the right side of her abdomen.

Woosh!

Finally, the wiry zombie made his move.

He darted across the concrete like a gazelle, rapid with great force, almost leaving her peripheral vision the moment she blinked.

His blades slashed across the air. They formed a cross-shaped trail of dark green aura as Lunaria sucked in her stomach to avoid his attack, which passed her waist, almost cutting through her stomach.

The moment his attack failed, she switched her grip on Yoko and dragged it across her body, performing an iai-style drawing technique. Her blade sliced across the zombie’s chest, from right side to left shoulder.

Tap!

Lunaria lunged forward with her right foot before he could escape.

She traced the lines across its body with keen eyesight.

Then, used the momentum of slashing with Yoko to bring down Gekko from the zombie’s right shoulder to his left side.

Spurt!

A surge of green and black blood spouted from the two deep wounds, the vibrant red lines fizzling from Lunari’s vision as the zombie collapsed to its knees, glaring up at her.

"Die!"

Lunaria spun, kicking the wiry zombie flying headfirst off the building’s rooftop.

Thud!

Soon after, the sickening crunch of it hitting the ground echoed in her fluffy ears, her head snapping to the brawny zombie that slowly regenerated from her previous attack.

"I don’t have time to babysit fools. Let’s end this fast!"

A searing pain spread through her lungs with each breath. Using this technique for the first time in battle was too draining. She sucked in more air, trying to numb the pain using the cold sensation she felt when breathing fresh air.

’I can do it...’

She raised both arms, holding Gekko and Yoko vertically, one shimmering with a silvery-blue aura, the other wreathed in crimson flames.

The brawny zombie smashed the rooftop, his eyes burning brighter.

He faced her while holding his two massive swords, pointing their blades in opposite directions, east and west, before opening his skeletal jaw.

"Grrrrrrrrr!"

Without a tongue, his shout only sounded like a distorted groan.

Lunaria ignored his rage.

She clenched her stomach muscles to force every last ounce of power into her arms like squeezing the yoghurt from a pouch. The tingling heat of her vampiric powers flowed into Yoko, and the bitter chill of her werewolf powers into Gekko.

A jet of flames burst from Yoko, increasing the blade’s size while Gekko’s blue glow matched this growth.

Two blades of light formed as she gritted her teeth and pushed out a rough taunt.

"Come on!"

Spurred on by her shout, he stomped on the ground and launched at her like a missile, his huge size and weight enough to shatter her bones.

Thud Thud Thud!

Within three long strides, he reached her zone of influence.

Lunaria opened her eyes to the limit as a brilliant glow flashed from their depths.

The monster’s two huge swords cleaved the air, aiming at her head.

"Hmph!"

Her first attack cut through the air, tracing the huge red lines down the brawny zombie’s shoulders, down to his waist and using the momentum to allow a follow-up strike.

With a skilful movement, she flicked the blades inward, then stepped to the side with her right leg bulging with muscle and used the force to twist her hips with all her strength, sending her into a rapid spiral.

Like a corkscrew, her blades danced upward, slicing the zombie’s waist, stomach and chest several times with a massive whirl of fire and ice, sealing the wounds.

The blades sliced the soft meat with ease.

She ended the final spin using the force to step past the monster as it fell to the ground.

"Phew..."

Lunaria leaned back, glancing at the main battle, a sharp ache throbbing in both her legs after she forced the spin attack at the end.

’Let’s not show off without proper practise in future...’ She staggered to the edge of the rooftop, scanning the ground for the wiry zombie.

She saw a mangled mess of a body smeared over the ground like a dropped watermelon.

"Good... he’s dead."

Her lungs still burned with a strange heat each time she took a breath, but Lunaria couldn’t stop here; she wanted to help Nikolai more.

However, the moment she stepped away from the wall, her stomach tightened, and she coughed violently.

"Agh... Kuha..."

She wiped the blood leaking from the corners of her mouth with a frown.

"Tsk, how annoying."

Lunaria slumped her back against the cold stone wall, banging her head twice as she heaved, slowly adjusting the berserk energies inside her body.

’It never used to be this hard... damn living body.’

Unable to continue, she closed her eyes while panting.

A thick sweat oozed from her pores as she struggled to maintain consciousness through the raging tempest inside her chest caused by the backlash of her skill.

"Nikolai..."

She could only bitterly call the name of her lover as she lost strength in her arms, crumpling in the corner of the rooftop.

.

.

.

Meanwhile, Nikolai flew at the enemy like a wild boar.

He slammed his fist into their chests, tearing out the makeshift hearts created using alchemy and necromancy and crushed them. Obsidian green blood poured down his arms, forming a dirty stream.

"Ha!"

Without pausing, he tossed the shattered organ into the face of a leaping zombie.

The force of the organ crushed the Zombie’s face.

It then fell inches from Nikolai, who shifted his body, stepping over the corpse and stomping on its head. Nikolai smiled at the sickening crunch it made before throwing his right arm into the chest of another zombie, which stabbed at him with its claws.

The closeline flung the zombie to the ground.

"These things are endless!" Nikolai spat, ending its life.

He drew his Desert Eagle, pointing it at the distant bone saints, aiming their fingertips at him.

Fwoosh!

A volley of sharp bones lanced through the air.

Nikolai’s eyes narrowed, able to see the tiniest of molecules floating in the air, his gun pointing at the leading saint.

Bang!

He shifted an inch to the right.

Bang!

To the left

Bang!

His senses were so acute and focused that he felt that time moved slowly.

The bone spikes finally reached him, after taking six shots, killing most of the remaining high-grade bone saints.

Nikolai casually stepped to the side, watching them fly past.

Clack!

He discarded the empty magazine, manifested a new one mid-air, and swiped his gun across, slotting the mag into place.

’I am so sad for practising this for hours in private...’ After he cleared the bone saints, he gained a moment to breathe and observed the situation. He tapped the communication device in his ear, Bzzzt! A static buzz greeted him.

He cracked his knuckles and gave a menacing look.

"Well, then, should I fight some more?"

That’s when he suddenly jumped back and glared into the distance.

He saw a familiar Djinn walking with several pale Djinn at his side, all of them fully armed with leather armour and massive curved blades.

"Marduke Balthazar?"

The zombie halted at a fifty-metre distance.

It observed him exactly as he’d observed the zombie.

Then it finally spoke, with a grainy, arrogant voice.

"Filthy Dog, even now, you cause me trouble! Tell me, Mutt. How do you wish to die?"
