Chapter 56: Ch 56: Victory Ceremony - Part 1

"The demon king has been defeated. Prince Kaiden will be back as the hero soon. You must be the one most excited by this, Lady Sera. Are you excited?"

Golden eyes looked at the lady in front of her before a smile bloomed on that beautiful face.

"Of course I am excited. Prince Kaiden is someone special to me, and I am happy to know that he is fine and unharmed."

Lady Sera replied, her smile plastered on her face. It radiated relief and joy at the fact that Prince Kaiden was returning.

The ladies around her also smiled at her happiness, now doing their best to keep her happy. With Prince Kaiden’s return, Lady Sera’s influence was only going to increase, so they wanted to be on her good side.

"But I heard a rumor that Prince Kaiden took a companion who was not you. Rumors say that they are close. Isn’t this troublesome?"

A lady finally dared to ask, her expression cold and ruthless.

Lady Sera’s expression froze as she looked at Danielle Lorutz. She was a princess from another nation and Prince Yunn’s fiancée. Their wedding was being postponed because Prince Kaiden needed to get married first, according to customs.

She was someone who had a bone to pick with Lady Sera, and she was also the only person Lady Sera could not touch... for now.

"Hmm, I have heard the rumor as well. But Kaiden has assured me that the only one for him is me. Him taking a companion was inevitable because of my poor health. It was all for my sake."

Lady Sera made it all about her, and the other ladies quickly took her side.

"Of course... we never doubted Prince Kaiden’s love for you."

Of course, Lady Danielle only scoffed.

"I see. In that case, I look forward to how you will reward and treat this ’companion’ once he returns. I am sure you will do your best to protect him from rumors that were spread for ’your sake’."

The smile on Lady Sera’s face faltered for just a second before it was back in full force. She knew that she could not say anything here, or she would fall into Lady Danielle’s clutches.

"Of course. I will make sure to protect that person. After all, he helped both me and Prince Kaiden out a lot."

Lady Sera’s smile looked genuine, but inside her mind, she was making plans. Prince Kaiden was hers, and there was no doubt about it. But she could not risk Shuu ever coming in between them.

So she would slowly ask Prince Kaiden to banish that person for ’his own safety’ so that she would never have to see him again. Prince Kaiden would understand her... surely he will.

"We are about to reach the capital. Prince Kaiden, you need to enter the city on your horse. Reina and I will follow. It is best if Shuu and Nero... stay in the closed carriage for now... for obvious reasons..."

Liam trailed off as he saw Prince Kaiden sit with his arms around Shuu’s middle. He had stayed close to Shuu during the return journey, but it did not seem as if he was aware of it.

"I understand that we need to keep Nero out of public eyes because he’s not human, but there is no reason Shuu cannot accompany us. If it is about horses, then he can join me."

Prince Kaiden sounded completely serious when he said that, and Liam sighed.

"It is not about horses, but about Shuu himself. We have been with Shuu long enough to know that he is a normal person, but for most people, not only is he someone who is abandoned by the goddess, people won’t be kind to him. Besides, I don’t think Lady Sera would like it if you show up with her replacement in front of her."

Reina got tired of all the hesitation and decided to speak up.

She suddenly looked sorry for calling Shuu a replacement right to his face, but Shuu did not seem to mind.

Actually, he looked a little sick at the moment. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Her words caused Prince Kaiden’s arms to tighten around Shuu, and in the end, it was Shuu who decided to speak up.

"I would rather not show my face in public if possible. I just want to live a quiet life out of the public eye."

He told everyone, and Prince Kaiden finally accepted what he needed to do.

"Alright, you can stay back... for now. As much as I want the people to acknowledge you, I also want your happiness."

He told Shuu before their carriage stopped, and it was finally time for them to change and enter the city.

Reina left as well, and Liam, Shuu, and Nero entered the royal carriage that was brought forth to accompany them.

Liam gave Shuu a searching look, and his mouth opened and closed without speaking anything. Finally, he did speak up and passed Shuu a piece of cloth.

"Wear it on your head. It will hide your identity from the others. I have no idea what will happen to you now, but I can assure one thing—now that we are back and Prince Kaiden has Lady Sera, he will not come to you. But others will. So try not to be alone if you can."

Liam warned, and Shuu appreciated the warning.

"I understand. I will leave the royal palace to head back with Nero as soon as the ceremony is over. I don’t feel well enough to stay for too long."

Shuu promised, and Liam gave him a searching look.

Shuu’s pale complexion supported his story that he was not feeling well at the moment.

"I see. Then I will help you out as much as I can. But I might be a little busy these next days. There is a lot we need to do, and we also need to make arrangements for Prince Kaiden’s engagement ceremony. We have been postponing it for years at this point."

Shuu’s heart felt heavy, and despite knowing this was coming, he was not able to stop his sorrow from overwhelming him.

Nero noticed and kicked Liam out of the carriage immediately.
