’What a mess of a situation. I never thought Princess Danielle was interested in Kaiden. Then, is it the throne she is after? Somehow, that does not make sense either. I cannot figure out what is going on here.’

Shuu’s insides burned with jealousy as he looked at the situation in front of him, but he was not the only one.

He had met Prince Yunn outside Emperor Kaiden’s room. As for Alfred Inferno...? He had fallen quiet as soon as he had seen Yunn. The maid in his arms had quickly run off as well, not wanting to face him.

Leaving that behind, the pair had decided to head toward Kaiden’s office, only to see the officials sitting outside and trying to listen in. They had given Shuu and Prince Yunn startled expressions but had refused to open their mouths.

In the end, Alfred had run off as well, and Yunn had decided to open the door to Emperor Kaiden’s room, followed by Shuu.

He had been the first one to call this situation an incident and show a mature response, but that did not mean that he was not suspicious of what was going on.

Especially when he had seen Kaiden not move an inch.

At least Princess Danielle had enough shame to pull herself away quickly and give an apologetic look to the people in front of her.

"I...we should talk. There are some things I need to tell you all, and the sooner we get it over with, the better it will be."

"What is this? When did this appear? How can it be possible? You never had that mark until now, right?"

Prince Yunn seemed to be taking the truth the hardest. His eyes looked ready to cry, but he did his best to hold back.

The intensity of Prince Yunn’s emotions made Danielle flinch, and she took a step back. She wanted to protest that she was not at fault, but she could not speak when her fiancé was looking at her like that.

"I...did not want this either. I don’t even know why or how I got this mark. But do you have any grounds to say anything? It’s not as if it matters to you. My relationships are none of your business-"

"How can it not be my business? We are to be married-"

"Our engagement has lasted for more than 10 years at this point. Do you even know what people are saying? What is my father saying? He has been urging me to come back and marry someone else. The only reason I did not was because I had hope for us...but now...it’s getting exhausting..."

"But the tradition-"

"Fuck your tradition! If your brother decides to never get married because Shuu cannot handle it, then we cannot get married either. I am not going to spend my whole life here, waiting to marry but never being able to."

Princess Danielle and Prince Yunn were fighting loudly. They were airing out their dirty laundry and all the grievances they had gathered over the past 10 years.

The more Shuu heard, the more he concluded that the root of their conflict was their long-standing engagement that was not going anywhere. And even he felt sorry for Princess Danielle for all she had to go through.

And then the blame turned to him, and Shuu felt guilty for her.

He had known that his decision not to marry Emperor Kaiden had something to do with Princess Danielle not getting married as well, and that was why she felt distant toward him now, but he had not expected it to be the direct reason.

If he had known, then he would have...done what exactly?

Shuu still had no intention of marrying Kaiden anytime soon, so the result would not have changed. But he could have talked to Lady Danielle or Prince Yunn regarding this topic.

’Ah, isn’t this a situation that was caused because of us? It wouldn’t have happened if we were by the goddess’s side. It’s not too late to correct it all.’

The voice taunted Shuu, and this time, he felt like he agreed with it. Suddenly, being by the goddess’s side did not sound bad. Especially if it was for the happiness of the people who supported him.

He was about to suggest this solution when Kaiden spoke up.

"Tsk, is that all you are troubled with? Just get fucking married already and stop causing this mess. Yunn, the order does not matter between us. It only matters if there is no ’hero’ business involved. So there is no point in you letting Danielle wait around like this."

Yunn looked startled, and his eyes turned to his brother with a betrayed expression.

Kaiden assured him, but Yunn still looked startled. Ultimately, however, he accepted what his brother was saying and looked at his long-term fiancée.

"My lady, I know we have come a long way and I have made you wait far too long, but may I formally ask for your hand to proceed? If you agree, then I will set a date quickly."

Yunn finally promised, but Danielle felt mixed emotions.

This was a moment she had been waiting for all her life. She knew that this was what she wanted. But at the same time...was this fine? Her father would surely try to use her if she agreed, not to mention this mark...
