[BL]The Hero and his Party Won't Let Me Go-Chapter 193: Ch : Being framed - Part 1
After spending time with the kids, Shuu hardly found himself wanting to be alone. The voice in his head usually tried to talk to him when he was alone and feeling lonely, but Shuu could not spend all his time with the kids either.
And since Kaiden was busy, Shuu had recently found a new hobby-taking walks where the staff usually were.
The loud chatter in the halls did well to drown out the voice in Shuu’s head, and he felt much better as well.
But the more he started doing this, the more he began to notice the frequency of ’accidents’ involving him increasing.
These accidents were never huge, mostly him tripping or colliding with things that were previously not there. But the fact that it was happening so often left him certain that this was deliberate.
For example, like right now. He had been taking a walk, and there was no one in front of him. But he turned his eyes to look at the courtyard for a second and almost slipped on a patch of water that a maid had ’suddenly dropped.’
’It is alright. This is not that big of a deal. I do not need to lose my temper here...take some deep breaths and calm down.’
Shuu told himself as he tried to smile and hide the annoyance he felt. But it was tough when his side ached from his fall.
"C-Companion Shuu, I apologize. This was an accident. I did not mean to-"
The female servant in front of him bowed in apology and tried her best to make herself seem as small as possible. The other servants had started to gather around as well, and they were paying close attention to what was happening.
Shuu felt awkward about all this and quickly decided to forgive the servant.
"It is alright. I just slipped and fell, so it’s not a big deal. But you should be a little more careful about where you leave wet spots. Someone else could have gotten badly hurt."
Shuu told the servant, and she gave a grateful bow.
"Thank you. I will make sure not to make such a mistake in the future."
The maid looked almost disappointed that she was not punished by Shuu. Her eyes glared daggers at him, which he did his best to ignore. He did not want to know what she or the other maids were thinking.
Shuu had pushed this incident past him, but the maids clearly had not. Seeing how lightly he was taking this, the maid in charge of this section stepped forward and quickly bowed.
"I apologize for this behavior, Companion Shuu. It is all my fault that you had to go through this. It is because I failed to educate this maid as well as I should have. Don’t worry, I will take care of her for you."
The section maid looked certain, and her eyes were filled with determination. Shuu noticed everyone else flinching around him in unison, and it made him wonder just how strict this head maid was.
Shuu had a feeling it would be better to wash his hands of this topic, so he sighed and signaled for the maid to drop it.
"There is no need to punish anyone for a mistake. They can happen at any time, and there is no need for you to go out of your way to call them out."
Shuu assured the head maid, but she looked annoyed with him for some reason.
"Companion Shuu, not everything is about you. This punishment is about having the maids learn the value of discipline and reminding them that their bad behavior needs to be punished. And frankly, you have no say in this."
The head maid told him, and Shuu sighed. He had a feeling this would be the end result.
He was about to walk away when he felt another presence heading his way. When Shuu looked up, he noticed that it was Duke Inferno walking over with his successor, his son Alfred Inferno.
Alfred looked a lot like Kaiden, with a similar facial structure and the same black hair. His eyes were blue, a piercing color that left anyone speechless.
Those were the most striking features about that man...other than his disdain for Shuu. He turned his head as soon as his eyes met Shuu’s and let out a disgusted sigh.
Shuu knew that there was no point in trying to get close to people who hated you like this, so he did not even try and instead turned toward Duke Inferno, who maintained a smile on his face.
"Oh my! It seems like something is going on here. May we know what you all are talking about as well?"
Duke Inferno asked in a gleeful voice. He was not here to have fun, but to gather gossip. And the maids quickly twisted the story to make it more interesting.
"We were discussing with Companion Shuu how to punish a misbehaving maid. So far, we have decided on giving her a harsh punishment, but a complete dismissal might not be out of the question."
The head maid quickly informed the Duke, and the maid in question looked ready to cry. She turned her eyes toward the group and reached out to Duke Inferno’s son, grabbing his clothes.
"Y-Young Master, please help me out. I did nothing wrong. I was just doing my work when Companion Shuu slipped on his own, and now he is blaming me for it. You believe me, right?"
The maid cried and cried to show how pitiful she was, and the more she acted like this, the softer Alfred Inferno’s expression became.
In the end, he felt bad for the maid and wrapped his arm around her shoulder to pull her up.
"Hey, don’t cry. It is not your fault. I am sure Companion Shuu thinks the same. After all, unlike a certain someone who sold his body, you are working hard to earn your keep. There is no need for you to be ashamed like this."
