"-Make sure you mind your manners and also keep yourself in check. Whatever fantasies you have of the Emperor, you better keep it in check-"

The guard parroted for the second time and Emma nodded along with an empty brain.

She was hearing what the guard had to say from one ear and letting it out from the other. After all, none of it would matter in a few seconds.

From what she had read about the mark (and the information given to her by the mark), the emperor would recognize her as his partner instantly and fall for her. Then, he would not be able to live without her and mark her as his companion.

As for his current companion...? Who cared what happened to him? It was not Emma’s responsibility to look after him after he had made a mistake and gone after her destiny.

But maybe she could be a little gentle with the crown prince and show him mercy....

’I will show the kid some mercy, but the next Emperor will be birthed by me. I refuse to let my future kid suffer...’

Emma was already making plans for her future when the door opened.

Her eyes fell on the emperor and her heart skipped a beat.

The emperor was handsome, but it was not the only reason her heart was beating like this. There was something about the emperor that attracted her. It made it so that she could not control herself.

’W-What is happening to me...? W-What is this feeling...?’

Everything inside her was telling her that the man in front of her was her destiny. There was no one else left for her and she was sure the Emperor was feeling the same.

’We are truly made for each other. That current companion must have tricked the emperor in some way.’

She bid her courage and pulled her sleeve up to show her arm to the emperor.

"Emperor Kaiden, look-! This is the mark-" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Her arm disappeared in a matter of seconds. It was a clean cut, but the pain and the blood made her scream.

"Disappear from my sight. This is your last warning. I don’t care what tricks the goddess is playing on me, but I will not fall for it."

Emperor Kaiden told the female in front of him and she nodded in fear and pain. The only reason she was still alive was because of her gift and the temple’s blessing.

"B-But I-"

She tried to reach for the emperor, but his cold glare made her heart beat even faster. She could feel herself pale and her body throbbed.

’W-What is happening...? Am I dying...?’

The female asked and within seconds she was dead. The blood loss got to her and the mark on her arm turned black before it disappeared.

"Now that this problem has been taken care of, I will head home."

Emperor Kaiden turned toward the Saintess who stood shell-shocked in front of him.

"Y-You killed her...? Did you not feel anything for her...?"

She asked as she looked at the dead body left behind. She immediately gestured for the guard to clean it up and the guard obliged her.

The emperor’s cold glare turned toward her.

"Why would I feel anything for anyone else when I already have Shuu? I don’t know or care what the goddess is planning. But I will not fall for it. If anyone else shows up with the same mark, I will kill them."

The saintess sighed and looked up to see what she should do. But she did not get any answer from the goddess.

Now that the goddess’s chosen was dead once more, there was no longer a reason to keep the emperor here.

"I see. I will take care of...aggg..."

The Saintess suddenly clutched her head as she collapsed. Her eyes went blank as the next message recorded by the goddess in her head started to play.

[Do not think you have run away from your destiny. You have killed your fate, but soon, two new ones will arise in her place. Should you kill them as well, four more will arrive until you choose one. Only by accepting your fate will a new hero be born...]

The saintess’s voice did not sound like her own. It was clear that she was having a revelation.

Everyone who heard her stood still, their eyes immediately going to the emperor to see what his reaction would be.

But the emperor did not do much. He stood in front of the saintess with the same blank look in his eyes.

"Now that I think about it, all bad things happen because of you. Aren’t you the source of all the goddess’s revelations? If I get rid of you, then I won’t have to deal with it anymore."

Emperor Kaiden’s words suddenly snapped the Saintess out of her daze and she took a step back.

"W-Wait a minute-! Y-You cannot kill me... It won’t solve anything. If you kill me, then a new saintess would be born and this will all continue. Instead, why don’t you use me? I am sure I can be of much help to you."

The Saintess offered with confidence, but her heart was beating loudly in her chest all this time.

She was afraid for her life, which could be taken away from her any second. But she had to at least try and reason with the emperor.

"You want to help me out? Fine, I will hear you out. Tell me what you have to say to me."

Emperor Kaiden gave the saintess a chance. He knew that she was right and he was not in the mood to track down the next saintess and take care of her either.

The saintess gestured for everyone to leave and once she was sure she was all alone, she gave her offer to the emperor.

"As you know, the temple is the source of all revelations regarding the goddess and the hero. So use me as you want, and I will do my best to accommodate your requests."

She proposed in a calm voice, but her heart was beating faster and faster in fear.
