Chapter 146: Caring

"I think what we need is complete reformation," Haruki said leaning against the backrest as he watched Ren and Kiyoshi sitting across him.

Kiyoshi nodded in agreement. That was what he had on his mind. Something must have gone wrong somewhere to make them an easy target for their enemies. Regardless of how strong an enemy is, they were meant to be a difficult target.

Haruki turned to Ren when he noticed the man had not responded to his words in any way, the older man still remained expressionless.

"Do you have any objection?" Haruki asked when he got no response even after their gaze met.

"No, I don’t."

"Before we begin to work on it, I need a report. I want to read a report about everything that has been going where everything went wrong including the last time we got infiltrated," Haruki said calmly.

He wondered if Ren was simply getting old and losing his touch because these were things he would never have believed Ren could let happen.

"From the top to the bottom, everyone involved in our organisation must be investigated thoroughly," Haruki said seriously. "You have two weeks to investigate it while ensuring nothing goes wrong during that period."

They had so much to look into. They had to investigate everyone in the underworld and everyone working closely with Haruki in the organisation.

There was so much to do in two weeks but considering their network, it shouldn’t be hard. Haruki could smell a bigger threat and it was best to ensure everyone was clean before building the best defence.

He was angry with Ren but considering so many important factors, he decided to let Hiroshi get better before deciding how to punish Ren. Hiroshi fell victim to someone’s plot and the person he wanted dead was the person who chose Hiroshi as his scapegoat.

Thinking that they chose Hiroshi now, he wondered who they would go after next. He looked at the men sitting before him. He wondered if he would be able to detect a lie if someone frames Ren or Kiyoshi the same way they did with Hiroshi.

"Times like this, we need to be careful, no suspicious movements, don’t try to put yourselves in situations where you could get framed," Haruki felt the need to warn them and didn’t hold back.

He noticed the surprise in their eyes as they turned to look at him but he meant every word he said so he added, "I don’t think it’s as simple as framing my doctor, this is the beginning, we should be getting prepared for an even bigger war."

Hearing the words spoken, both men nodded seriously.

"I also think this is just the beginning. All this in the first half of this year? I wonder what awaits us in the second half."

One of the easiest ways to bring down a company was proving they had connections with the yakuza especially for a company that has dealings with the Yakuza against the law. How could his right-hand man be the leader of one of the country’s biggest underworld groups?

However, as someone who maintains a good relationship with the government, it would be difficult to bring them down simply because of that but if the person is a big threat as Haruki feels, he knew he could not sit easy.

They had so many friends, acquaintances and even distant family members in the government, it was only right for him to renew those relationships. It used to be a yearly occasion of drinking and talking together but he saw the need to remind them of how important he was in the country.

He ordered Kiyoshi to plan a banquet and send invitations. In three weeks he was going to bring every one of them to eat at his table. It was short notice but it would also ease his mind if they all responded.

Kiyoshi nodded, this was exactly the time to strengthen the relationship.

When Haruki pushed the door open and walked in, he didn’t see the doctor on the bed. When he began worrying, he heard the sound of water running in the bathroom. That still didn’t ease his worry because what was an injured man doing alone in the bathroom?

Haruki knocked on the door lightly twice before pushing the door open. He walked in. Steam filling the shower cubicle made it impossible to see the man through the glass walls. He walked to the door and slid it open just in time for Hiroshi to turn off the shower.

He stood with his back towards Haruki water dripping, rolling down his broad shoulders to his waist. Haruki’s gaze fell on the man’s firm butt before looking up as Hiroshi leaned forward slightly and brushed his hair backwards.

Haruki reached for the towel and covered Hiroshi’s hair from behind. Hiroshi froze but knowing no one else would enter the shower cubicle with him except the owner of the house, he leaned backwards into Haruki’s touch as the large towel fell on his shoulder covering most of his upper body.

"Why are you bathing alone?" Haruki asked rubbing the excess water off the man’s hair.

"I’m fine now," Hiroshi replied sincerely. He turned to look at Haruki’s face, his brow was furrowed worriedly making him smile. "The wound has healed significantly."

All he was allowed to do during the past four days was sleep, eat, read and lie down. He was not even allowed out of the room only seeing the sun from the balcony.

It was not boring during the first three days as having Haruki attend to him carefully as though he was taking care of a newborn fawn, was entertaining enough but from the fourth day, he began feeling useless and missed work.

"It is not healed until I say so," Haruki replied looking into the warm brown eyes of the man who made his heart race simply by looking at him.

"It is healed, I can go back to work now," Hiroshi said, seriously. He had not stepped out of the room from the day he was brought in by Haruki and the only person he saw was the cleaning lady, his father and Kiyoshi.

Haruki’s gaze became cold hearing that the man wanted to go back to work. He thought of how stressful Haruki’s work could get sometimes and to think that a man who had gone through what Hiroshi did simply wanted to go back to work, didn’t make him happy.

"You don’t have to worry about getting fired, you are on sick leave," Haruki resting his hands on the man’s shoulder, leaned and kissed Hiroshi’s lips.

"I am not worried about getting fired, I am just bored. I am not used to being indoors for too long," Hiroshi replied.

"For your safety, let’s not talk about that for now," Haruki replied pulling away from the wet naked body of his doctor and sighed. He didn’t feel like helping him dry his hair anymore so he stepped out of the bathroom.

To think that they were not done investigating intensively, he didn’t want Hiroshi to leave yet. He was certainly safer in his house.

Hiroshi watching Haruki leave could not help but sigh. He knew the man was worried about him.

He enjoyed being the man’s concern, it meant he was someone important to Haruki and if he wasn’t so bored, he would have loved to stay this way forever but after staying locked up in the basement, he didn’t find it pleasant staying indoors.

All he truly needed to heal was good rest and good warm meals and Haruki made sure he didn’t miss any which allowed him to heal as fast as he usually does and the pain was completely gone.

He walked into the room after wearing a dressing coat. Haruki was on the balcony leaning against the handrail with a cigarette. When he saw Hiroshi, he pressed the butt of the cigarette into the ashtray before turning to face Hiroshi.

"Give me some more days and you can go back," Haruki said sitting on the sofa on the balcony and staring at the beautiful view below.

"Even though I’m all healed now?" Hiroshi asked. Haruki didn’t specify how long he would have to stay but he knew it would be more than a week.

It was Haruki’s turn to sigh. He stretched his hand towards Hiroshi who obediently took his hand in his and moved close to Haruki. "If I want to keep you locked up here forever, will you try to escape?" After asking, Haruki raised his head to look at Hiroshi.

Hearing such a question, Hiroshi felt his heart race. The first response was a positive answer. Why wouldn’t he want to stay with Haruki forever even if it meant he could never leave the house? He smiled as he squatted down in front of Haruki.

"Hmm?" Haruki asked, but Hiroshi only lowered his head without responding to his question.

"I won’t try to escape but could you not do that?" Hiroshi asked kneeling as he pushed himself into Haruki’s embrace and waited for Haruki to hug him.

"I won’t keep you locked up forever but I have to keep you for the next ten days until I am sure it’s safe for you to leave," Haruki replied calmly as he hugged the man rubbing his wet hair against his neck and chest.
