Chapter 328: It’s just a house tour
Andrew called Richard later that night, letting him know that things were coming together, they had moved in, and asked if he wanted a virtual tour of the new place. Richard had balked at the suggestion at first, but he eventually relented and Andrew grew excited. He made his way to the front door, turned on the video, and walked Richard through the house.
The contractors were just finishing up for the day, and Andrew made sure to let them know they were on video for the person who was going to be moving into the unit that they were working on. Most didn’t seem to care, but a few seemed interested. Several didn’t mind being recorded, and even waved. Andrew chuckled, staring at the screen.
Richard hadn’t turned on his camera, and Andrew didn’t mind. The man was an introvert by nature, and he probably was feeling all kinds of feelings at the moment.
When Andrew poked his head into the office and showed off the space that Maxwell was setting up, Maxwell turned and smiled, waving at the camera without a second thought. Andrew chuckled.
"Maxwell wants to change a lot of the rooms in the house, but we’re focusing on getting your space set up first. It’s a project house, and we’re okay with it." Andrew told him, and could feel the silence on the other end of the phone. "I mean it, Ricky, it’s not a big deal. After you’re done living in the house, we’ll have a little in-law suite. That’s cute, isn’t it?" Andrew said. "I’ve never lived in a house that had one of those." Andrew heard Richard sigh on the other side.
"I...just feel bad that you’re doing all of this for me." He told him and Andrew paused for a second.
"If...I didn’t know Max, and I manifested this way, who do you think I would have gone to?" Andrew asked quietly. They were still in the office, and Maxwell perked up, hearing his name. Richard remained quiet for a long time, before he sighed.
"It probably would have been us." Richard admitted, and Andrew nodded, aware that he couldn’t see him.
"Yeah. It would have been you guys. Probably you specifically, or May. So, please stop feeling guilty about this. There is no place for guilt here. We don’t mind. We aren’t upset, and you aren’t inconveniencing us. We’re happy to help, and Max is pretty excited about it, because he gets to help another person who’s manifested recently. So, only feel awkward if you do something weird, alright?" Andrew teased, smiling as he met Maxwell’s eyes.
Maxwell, he hoped, had the same soft expression that Andrew had on his own face. He thought so, since Maxwell’s eyes were soft and warm, staring at Andrew in a way that had him on high alert. He had a feeling that he might not have as restful of a night as he had hoped. Maxwell was looking at him like Andrew meant the world to him, which Andrew loved, but he was also looking at him like he was his favourite food. That was the look that was worrying him.
"Fine..." Richard sounded bitter, if not a little deflated, and Andrew had to quickly get his mind out of the gutter. "But I’m planning to only stay as long as I have to. Mom and Dad told me that they made sure to wrap up all of my furniture so that it doesn’t get too dusty. I expect that I won’t be staying long. Transitions for omegas are more documented since that seems to be the more common of the later manifestations. I’m not bothering two people who have just entered into a relationship." Andrew laughed at the angry way that Richard said everything.
Even Maxwell was smiling.
"Ricky, you aren’t bothering us, and Maxy and I are more than capable of sneaking away to get some alone time if we need to." Andrew told him, and Maxwell laughed.
"Trust us. You won’t be able to tell." Maxwell promised, and Richard’s sigh filled the air. Maxwell and Andrew shared a look. It felt like they were negotiating a new relationship with an older child.
"Yeah. Sure. Uh huh. I’ll believe that." Richard deadpanned and Maxwell laughed, waving his hand.
"Go show him the rest of the house. I’ll take over once you’re done showing him the bones." Maxwell said, blowing Andrew a kiss while the phone was pointed in his direction. Andrew made sure to turn the phone around so that Richard got a view of Andrew grabbing the kiss and sending one back.
Richard was gagging, loudly,
"Ugh! Gross! Don’t show me that shit!" He roared and Andrew was laughing as he was leaving the office, waving to Maxwell since he knew that he had put on that show for Richard. Maxwell smiled at him warmly, waving as well as Andrew and Richard continued talking, poking fun at each other as Andrew virtually showed him around their new home. Because that was what it was.
For however long Richard was here, it was going to be his home too.

It was a rather fun evening, with Jenny and Kim staying around for dinner again after helping Andrew reorganise the living room and dining room to make it more functional, and not just pretty. Andrew could see how Maxwell wasn’t exactly happy with the layout, but Andrew just reminded him that the furniture was temporary until the stuff he wanted arrived, and that seemed to soothe him. Kim and Jenny said nothing, especially since they had encountered Maxwell as he was explaining all of the good hiding spots to Richard over the phone diligently.
Maxwell took it very seriously, and Andrew had felt very proud of him even as the contractors gave him strange looks. Andrew didn’t need to see Richard’s face to be able to tell that he was probably feeling like it wasn’t necessary for him to know this. Andrew, from his own experience, knew that he would need them. Andrew was only safe because he had Maxwell with him.
Richard didn’t have someone like that for him. At least not yet. And god would that be a lot if he found someone right away. Someone who Andrew and Maxwell would have to check out before handing over Richard in any capacity.
Andrew felt a wave of protectiveness fill him at just the thought of Richard meeting anyone else. He’d always been concerned for Richard in particular, but he was actually surprised by how becoming an alpha had changed the strength of it. He swallowed, acknowledging the fact that Richard becoming an omega probably had something to do with it too. Andrew groaned, the feeling filling his chest making it hard for him to concentrate.
Maxwell, who was nearby, glanced over at Andrew.
Jenny and Kim had just left, the contractors had left a few hours ago, and they were sitting down in the dining room working on some planning for the upcoming week. Andrew was letting his emotions get the better of himself now that they were alone, and Maxwell reached over, placing his hand on his.
"What’s wrong Baby?" He asked carefully and Andrew looked at Maxwell, his soft but strong boyfriend and sighed.
"I’m just...do you think I’m being too protective of Richard?" Andrew asked carefully and Maxwell’s eyes widened.
"What? No, of course not! Anyone would show this level of concern for him." Maxwell said, scoffing. "Why? Did someone tell you that? Did Richard say that?" He asked, ready to fight. Andrew shook his head with a small smile. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
"No. No one told me that, not even Richard. I think even though he knows that he needs help, he’s just being difficult about it. I just...I’ve always cared for Richard, and some part of me always worried who he would end up with. Richard hasn’t...had many relationships. I honestly don’t even know if he’s had sex before." Andrew told Maxwell and Maxwell glanced at the work on the laptop in front of him, before he closed his laptop and turned to face Andrew, giving him his full attention.
"Andy, you’ve been out of their lives for several years. What makes you think that he hasn’t had serious relationships? Or even flings?" Maxwell asked and Andrew gave him a look.
"You know Richard. You know what he’s like. He’s...focused on his work and his family, but not about his immediate family. I’ve watched him not pick up on social cues before. Like someone liking him. He keeps up his appearance but that’s because Rose and I got on his case when he was younger and it started slipping. He only keeps his hair long because he doesn’t like to go to hair dressers." Andrew told him and Maxwell seemed...intrigued.
"Huh. I never gave that aspect much thought, but yes, you’re right. He does tend to isolate himself at the very least romantically. He has several friends at work, and all of the people he interacts with have positive things to say about him." Maxwell told him and Andrew sighed.
"I’m worried about him because becoming an omega could...activate parts of himself that he didn’t really care to look at too deeply." Andrew said. "And I’m worried that it’s weird that I’m worried about that kind of stuff. We aren’t...really related, and people are going to see this as me, a true alpha, living in a home with two omegas." Andrew said cautiously and Maxwell’s face tightened.
"If anyone says shit, Andrew, you let me know. Or better yet, let my Father know. He’ll deal with it." Maxwell said, his voice stony. Andrew chuckled.
"I know. I’m not alone, but I’m worried about your image." Andrew told him. "You’re so important to me, and I wouldn’t want to affect you negatively." Maxwell softened at Andrew’s words. He reached out, squeezing his hand.
"Baby. You’re a sensitive guy, and I love that about you. I appreciate you being concerned, but that’s where we just go hard with the family angle. They don’t need to know that Richard isn’t your brother, and you’re a true alpha. Most of the siblings from those families don’t look the same. Also, historically, most true alphas don’t sleep with their siblings. Especially if you were both previously betas, it would make sense that you would be living together. Let’s...use their fucked up standards against them, alright?" Maxwell’s words were comforting and Andrew let out a sigh.
"So it’s okay that I’m worried about him?" Andrew asked. Maxwell nodded.
"Baby, I’d be more worried about you personally if you weren’t." Maxwell told him and Andrew chuckled. He raised his hand up to his lips, pressing a kiss there and watching as Maxwell relaxed.
"Thanks for listening and not judging." Andrew told him and Maxwell shook his head.
"I’m not an asshole to you, and I love spending time with you. There’s no way I’m going to mock you or laugh at your concerns. Tell me about them at any time." Maxwell said, his smile soft. "Now, let’s get a little bit more done before I get my reward." Maxwell’s eyes lit up and Andrew flushed.
"Alright." Andrew agreed as Maxwell took his hand back and chuckled, opening his laptop again. He looked pleased as punch that he was getting a reward. Andrew just worried they were both going to like it too much.
