Chapter 98: S Rank Adventurers Party vs. Chimera Mother — Part 2.

Erwin’s knees hit the ground. His eyes burned, blood welling at the corners as his sight struggled to measure her power.

"Her... Magic... Her Might... immeasurable. Th-the worm... that’s not it... it wasn’t the one... W-we should kill... her... that thing... is—"

Before he could finish, every member of his party erupted in a unified scream of agony and fury:

"DEMON LORD!"

The word tore through the chamber, a reflection of the terror and rage they all felt, as the full scale of what they were facing sank into their bones.

Lita’s body trembled under the weight of fear and exhaustion; every bone felt like it could shatter beneath the monster before her. Yet, with raw determination, she snatched her staff from the ground, using it to anchor herself as she rose to her feet. Frantically, she grabbed every mana potion in her pocket, draining them one by one.

"YOU B*TCH! YOU K-KILLED GELA... YOU KILLED OUR TEAM MEMBER! YOU MONSTER!"

Grief and fury surged through her, overriding her terror. Her nose bled as she pushed her mana circuits to the breaking point. She was attempting something impossible... to her species: double casting.

"ADVANCED LIGHTNING ELEMENT: THUNDERCLAP EXPLOSION! ADVANCED WATER ELEMENT: TIDAL TSUNAMI!"

The chamber shook violently as raw elemental energy erupted around her. Lightning arced and twisted through torrents of water, surging toward the nightmare before them. Every strike was fueled by rage, sorrow, and sheer willpower.

Maddy advanced slowly toward them, her body shifting and twisting from one monstrous form to another. She didn’t even need to raise her arms. The double-cast, lethal elemental assault that could have obliterated high-ranking monsters... barely grazed her.

The spells slammed against her flesh, lightning and water colliding against scales, chitin, and shifting mass—but she simply absorbed it, almost as if mocking their power.

BOOM!

The explosion rocked the chamber, throwing debris and elemental residue into the air.

The surviving S-rank adventurers seized the moment to steady themselves. Zaun vanished into thin air, activating his invincibility to prepare for the next strike.

Erwin slowly rose to his knees, forcing his battered body upright. He turned toward Gela—gone, lifeless. His chest tightened with grief and fury.

He placed a hand in his pocket, fingers closing around the Teleportation Stone. His jaw set, resolve hardening.

"No... if I follow in my father’s footsteps, then this... this is my step to truly becoming his son. I won’t run. I will show everyone that my blood carries his—carries his heroism!"

He gulped down a large mana potion, and the others followed suit, drinking every potion they had. Lita’s double casting had struck Maddy squarely.

"T-that should... kill her... I—I killed a d-demon lord... I KILLED A DEMON LORD—"

Her celebration froze. In an instant, before her, Maddy’s arms rose. The flash of motion struck Lita’s eyes—jaws and claws fused with armor she had absorbed: the claws of a Mammoth Mosquito, reinforced with the hardened carapace of a Bulwark Beetle.

Lita gasped.

"Eh?"

CLANG!

"ADVANCE LIGHT ELEMENT: AEGIS SWORD!!!"

Erwin’s scream tore from his throat, raw and desperate. He lunged in front of Lita, throwing his entire body into the path of Maddy’s monstrous assault, his claymore held like a shield. He refused to let another teammate fall.

"I WON’T LET YOU—EVIL—KILL ANOTHER ONE OF MINE!"

Lita froze in horror. The double cast spells she had poured every ounce of her mana into... had done nothing. Maddy simply ignored the laws of the world. Logic itself seemed to shatter around her.

Lita stumbled back, spirit breaking.

"Impossible..."

But Maddy was far from done. Her other arm twisted and reshaped itself into yet another horrifying fusion of the creatures she had consumed, crystallizing into a dense, mineralized limb. She raised it and swung with unstoppable force.

Lita screamed, panic tearing through her voice:

"IT’S GOING TO HIT US AGAIN! CAPTAIN!!!"

Erwin’s eyes blazed as he braced himself, planting his feet firmly.

"I KNOW! I GOT THIS! ADVANCE LIGHT ELEMENT: AEGIS SWORD!!!""

Maddy’s shifting chimera arm slammed into Erwin’s claymore point blank. The kinetic force sent them both hurtling across the chamber, screaming in unison:

"AAAHHHH!!!"

But it wasn’t just the force—they both felt their bodies crack under the blow. Ribs snapped like dry kindling as they slammed into the calcified pillars. Erwin coughed up a spray of blood, struggling to push himself upright.

"I won’t... give up... this is... a trial for me... because... I am the son... of the man who killed... the—Demon Lord ten years ago... the Golden Hero!"

But his resolve was tested only for a fleeting second. Blood spattered across the floor and walls as his gaze turned behind him.

"L-Lita?"

Horror froze him. Lita lay crushed in the impact. Her body was a mangled ruin—ribs shattered, chest and back caved in, arms twisted, her head the only part barely intact. The sight ripped through him... the weight of helplessness threatening to crush him as fully as Maddy had.

In front of him, Ed had completely lost control. His hands trembled violently as he fumbled with his musket, slick with sweat. He froze at the writhing, shifting horror of Maddy’s form, his deepest entomophobia pushed to the breaking point.

"Oh God... ARGH!"

He tried to steady himself, tried to breathe, but panic and fear gripped him like iron. His chest heaved, lungs screaming for air that felt impossibly thin.

"I-I can do it... Father... Mother... B-Brother... No! I can do this, Ed... Explosives! Yes! Yes! I need explosives! DAMN IT! Why won’t they load?!"

He looked up at Maddy, her gaze fixed on the Mobile Womb. Every attack they had unleashed against that abominable creature seemed meaningless—her Magical Regeneration, Photosynthetic Regeneration, and the recently absorbed powers including Animate Undead were already knitting the flesh of the Mobile Womb back together, as if nothing they had done had ever left a mark.

Ed’s hands trembled, and he sobbed, dropping the remaining rounds.

"All that... all that attack... it was for... nothing... This m-monster... is truly—"

Before he could finish, Maddy underwent another horrifying metamorphosis. A monstrous limb whipped toward him, aiming to pulverize him instantly.

But before it could strike, Erwin threw himself in front of Ed once again, blocking the attack with a roar of defiance.

"DAMN YOU!!!"
