Birthing Legends: My Womb Creates SSS Monsters-Chapter 40: You Making Me… WET!
The tongue slapped against her waist, sticking firmly to her skin. Maddy didn’t even flinch; she stood her ground, her heavy carapace making her feel like an anchored statue.
"Really?"
Maddy asked, looking at the red rope attached to her.
"That’s your best shot?"
Before the creature could pull back, Maddy’s Static Discharge flared. A bolt of blue lightning traveled up the wet tongue like a highway. A muffled croak echoed from behind a rock, followed by a wet thud. A large, bright blue frog tumbled into the open, its body smoking and its limbs twitching in paralysis.
[New Monsterpedia Entry Added: Torrent Toad]
[Torrent Toad (Evolved Form) — Habitat: Cave / Forest / River / Swamp]
[An agile amphibian that uses its powerful legs for high speed leaps and a specialized organ to store and blast high pressure water. Their skin is incredibly slick, making them hard to grab. Add that it has a water element.]
"A toad? Well, you’re not a fish, but you’re... meaty."
She appraised it.
[Magic: 350,000 | Might: 300,000]
"WOAH! That’s high magic and might. What does it do—pump water like a firefighter’s hose?"
Suddenly, the river surface exploded. Dozens of Torrent Toads leaped onto the banks, their throats bulging. Without a word of warning, they unleashed a coordinated blast of high pressure water.
SPLASH!
Maddy’s eyes widened as she traced the movement of their legs, the way their throats expanded, the angle of each blast.
"Oh, that throat can shoot water... the way they control it... their slick skin to reduce friction... every adaptation serves a purpose. This is fascinating!"
However as she was hit by a wall of freezing torrents. The force was enough to knock a tree over, and though her armor held, she was left drenching wet and annoyed.
"Argh... I get it, I haven’t even taken a bath in fifteen days. But! Argh, now I’m pissed. You want to play with elements? Fine. Lightning Laser!"
She fired a brilliant beam of electrified silk, but the toads were gone. They moved with a terrifying, fluid grace, jumping ten feet into the air and sticking to the cavern walls. They began circling her, firing more water jets from every angle, keeping her blinded and off balance.
"They’re too fast for the laser! I need to get out of their line of sight. I need a blind spot."
She closed her eyes, letting her Blood Scent Detection take over. She could smell their pulse, their excitement. She thought of her Rapid Burrowing, the Bone Piercing Fangs she just acquired, and the Swarm Instinct to track multiple targets.
"If I can’t see you, you can’t see me."
She dived into the soft, muddy earth, her body spinning like a drill. While underground, she channeled her mana into her jaw, extending her fangs into long, serrated needles. Using the toads’ own movements against them, she tracked the vibrations of their landings.
Maddy burst from the dirt directly beneath a toad, her reinforced jaws snapping shut mid air.
"BURROW BITE!"
CHOMP!
She dragged it back down into the earth before the others could react. She repeated the process, pop up, bite, drag down moving like a shark in the soil.
[System Notice]
[Congratulations! You have acquired a skill: Burrow Bite]
[Burrow Bite: Burrows underground while fangs sharpen. Emerges suddenly from blind spots, delivering deep puncture wounds and repeated tearing attacks. Sudden emergence and relentless strikes overwhelm targets before reaction.]
She was halfway through thinning out the group when the very foundation of the riverbank began to shake. It wasn’t just a tremor; it was a heavy pounding that made the mud churn. Suddenly, the earth beneath Maddy heaved upward, spitting her out of the ground like a piece of unwanted debris.
A massive creature dragged itself out of the riverbed. It was twice the size of the Torrent Toads, its skin covered in thick, brown, rocky warts.
[New Monsterpedia Entry Added: Tremor Toad]
[Tremor Toad (Evolved Form) — Habitat: Cave / Forest / River / Swamp]
[This toad can manipulate the density of the earth around it. It creates localized earthquakes and can encase its body in mud armor that hardens instantly. Possesses the Earth Element, enhancing its control over terrain and earth based attacks.]
Maddy coughed up a mouthful of dirt as she stood, brushing herself off, but her heart raced with excitement.
"Wow... just look at it! Every croak it made, every rock of its armored shift... it’s a masterpiece of evolution!"
She appraised it.
[Magic: 250,000 | Might: 350,000]
"Now this toad is packed with muscles... but nah, the Torrent Toad is still better!"
The Tremor Toad slammed its front fect into the ground, and the soil beneath Maddy’s feet turned as hard as diamond, locking her in place.
"You just took away my tunnel... Damn. I hope you’re ready for a stand up fight, because I’m not leaving until I’ve turned you into a pair of boots!"
A Torrent Toad seized the moment, leaping from a rock and blasting her with a high pressure water jet that hissed against her Heavy Carapace.
"Ugh, I’m soaked again!"
Maddy yelled, her wings buzzing angrily to shake off the moisture.
"So, you’ve locked the ground to stop my burrowing, and the rest of you are just waiting to hop back into the river if I use my Hellmouth? Clever. My jaw is actually starting to ache from all that sucking anyway."
She narrowed her eyes, watching the Tremor Toad shift the earth to create a wall of mud bricks.
"This is perfect. I shouldn’t just be a collector of traits; I need to be a master of skills. If I can’t go under you, and I can’t pull you to me... I’ll just have to bring the storm to you."
Maddy went still, her mind racing through her library of powers. She needed range, she needed piercing power, and she needed to make sure they couldn’t jump away.
"Let’s see... I’ll use Silk Production and Pressure Spit to give it speed. I’ll add Lightning Element to cook you from the inside. But to make it really hurt... I’ll use Reinforced Needle and Crystalline Growth to make the silk hard and sharp."
She took a deep breath, her chest glowing with blue and violet light.
"LIGHTNING HARPOON!"
The first harpoon whistled through the air, piercing the Tremor Toad’s rocky shoulder before it could even blink. The toad let out a pained croak as blue electricity arced across its body, locking its muscles in place.
"One down!"
