Binjiang Police Affairs-Chapter 1148 - 30: Port Supervision Becomes Marine!
Others go to the Capital for commendation, but Han Yu goes to suffer.
Drunk for four consecutive days, with a splitting headache every day; if he weren’t in good physical condition, he would have been rushed to the hospital by now.
On the way back, Han Yu secretly vowed never to attend any meetings or events that required drinking again in his life, swearing a deep, eternal enmity against alcohol!
The delegation took a plane back to Jiangcheng, and the Nanjing Military Region wanted to celebrate the commended unit leaders and individuals.
Han Yu wouldn’t dare attend even if it killed him, using the excuse of having to rush back for a smuggling crackdown mission to take leave.
The delegation commander saw that even the director of the Changhang Jiangcheng Branch personally came to pick him up, and knowing his aversion to drinking, readily allowed him to leave.
Han Yu stuffed his luggage into the police car’s trunk and hurriedly opened the door to get into the car as if escaping.
Zhang Junyan looked at his haggard appearance and laughed, asking, "Drank again last night?"
"Yeah." Han Yu pressed his temples, lacking energy.
"Who did you drink with last night?"
"The superior wants us to form a navy reserve camp in Binjiang. None of us understand it. Mayor Qin and Director Tang asked me to contact Director Feng, to see if he’s interested in visiting Binjiang, and to help us strategize on how to set up this navy reserve camp."
"You met Director Feng!"
"I met him."
With eyes closed from the headache, Han Yu spoke groggily, "Even though Director Feng is retired, he worked in the navy for many years and, after being transferred to Cosco, was responsible for liaising with the military, so he has many friends in the General Staff, General Equipment, and navy offices.
He called some headquarters friends and took me to a military guesthouse for dinner, using the ’Imperial Sword.’ I’d met those friends before, and Director Li from Cosco also came. After not seeing each other for several years, they insisted on celebrating and insisted that I drink alcohol."
Despite saying he drank every day, in reality, he drank less in total these days than most do in one meal.
It’s not just that he can’t drink much; he simply can’t drink at all!
Zhang Junyan truly regretted not encouraging him to drink a bit before, to gradually build some tolerance.
Now it’s too late, and he has already caused a big joke.
One-shot drunk, and the reputation spreads!
Not only do the army commanders know, even the Changhang Bureau leaders in Hanwu know.
Zhang Junyan chuckled and asked, "Director Feng should know you don’t drink. How could he let you drink?"
"Director Feng knows, but Captain Chen, Director Liu, Director Yang, and Director Li from Cosco didn’t know. They didn’t believe me when I told them. They said when the Navy Chief toasted, I drank in one gulp, but when they toasted, I didn’t drink. Did I look down on them? They even said the drinks weren’t just for this flood relief celebration but also for the previous celebration, which needed to be made up."
"That First-level Merit commemorated by General Politics?"
"That’s the one. In their words, we executed missions together, fighting as comrades. I really couldn’t turn it down, so I drank a glass and then knew nothing until I woke up in the hotel."
"Didn’t watch last night’s art gala?"
"No, I was too drunk to stay conscious, how could I watch."
"What a pity."
"Yeah, every meal had good dishes, I hardly ate, and even if I did, I’d throw it up! Uncle Zhang, you might not believe it, but all I’ve eaten these days is just one meal a day, mostly porridge, I don’t even know how I got through this."
"Only drinking porridge every day?"
"In the morning there’s a buffet: porridge, buns, bread, milk, but my stomach felt uncomfortable from being drunk, so I couldn’t eat meat buns or drink milk, only porridge."
Poor child!
So much good food, yet no chance to eat it, and what little he ate was vomited up due to drinking too much; now he probably feels nauseous at the sight of rich food, won’t recover in just three to five days for sure.
Zhang Junyan didn’t know how to console him, so he simply changed the topic, held the steering wheel and smiled, asking, "Did Director Feng say whether he would return to Binjiang?"
"He did, he definitely will, and plans to fly back to Binjiang directly in a few days."
"How do you plan to organize the navy reserve camp?"
"At first, I thought the superiors were serious, but later, Director Yang from the navy said the superiors weren’t too serious about it. They just felt if the army has reserve forces, the navy should have them too."
Heartburn from stomach acid, feeling awful.
Han Yu clutched his chest, rubbed it, and bitterly smiled, "So how it’s organized doesn’t matter much; what matters is getting it set up."
"That’s simple then, find a few retirees from the navy, start with that group."
"The superiors probably don’t know how to organize this reserve camp either, considering the situation and the lack of anything. It’s hard to give us specific requirements and goals. But I don’t just want to gather a few people for a meeting, have a superior give a speech, put up a sign, take a photo, and set off some firecrackers."
"You want to make it real?"
"Uncle Zhang, if we only went through the motions during inspections back then, the Linghai Reserve Camp wouldn’t have achieved what it did, nor won the honor it has now. The phrase ’An army is raised for a thousand days to be used at a critical time’ makes some sense. Since they appointed me as the camp commander, of course, I want to make it real, plus organizing the navy reserve camp doesn’t conflict with my main job coming up."
The kind of mentor you have shapes the kind of disciple you become.
If Xu Sanye were alive, he’d make a big deal out of it, maybe even a bigger deal!
Zhang Junyan was silently reflecting when Han Yu shifted the topic: "Uncle Zhang, when Director Feng had me perform missions overseas, it was to assist Captain Chen from General Staff, Director Liu from General Equipment, Director Yang from the navy, and Director Li from Cosco. Back then, the superiors set up a transfer team, with Captain Chen as the team leader.
