Billionaire's Unforgettable Ex-Wife-Chapter 897 - 561: Ivy, I’m Very Satisfied with You
In the living room, Ivy Miller still felt a bit awkward, "Mr. Balthazar, would you like some tea?"
Balthazar smiled, "Ivy, I’m not really a tea drinker. Tea keeps me awake at night."
"Oh, in that case, I’ll pour you some water," she said, getting up to pour him a glass of water and placing it in front of him.
Balthazar picked up the glass and smiled, "Thank you."
"You’re welcome, you’re a guest in our home, it’s what I should do."
"Your White Rice is two years old, right?"
"Yes."
"That’s such a fun age."
Ivy’s face lit up with a happy smile, "Yes, she’s funny when she talks now, and having her own opinions is funny too. When I’m in a bad mood, just a bit of time with her makes me feel better."
After saying that, Ivy wondered if she might’ve been talking too much. She scratched her brow, "Am I talking too much?"
"Not at all, it just reminded me of when my daughter was little."
"How old is your daughter?"
"Four and a half."
"Wow, she’s a big girl. Girls that age must love being pretty, right?" Ivy asked with a smile.
"She lives with her grandparents in the United States, so I don’t get to see her often.
But her grandmother often calls to say that she even picks out her own clothes and has a strong sense of style," Balthazar replied.
Ivy nodded, "Don’t you and your partner miss her?"
At this, Balthazar’s expression faltered, "My wife is gone. She passed away from an amniotic fluid embolism during childbirth."
Ivy felt a pang of guilt, "I’m sorry, I didn’t know."
"It’s alright. It’s been over four years now. Although I can’t fully move on, I’ve come to accept it."
Balthazar looked at Ivy, "It seems Professor Lee didn’t tell you about me coming here."
Ivy blinked, "She said there’d be a guest today, but didn’t mention why. Is something up?"
"Well, I’m here for a matchmaking meeting," Balthazar admitted openly.
Ivy blinked again, "What?"
"Professor Lee invited me to meet you for matchmaking."
Ivy really felt her head spin, match... matchmaking? Trust her mom to come up with that.
"Mr. Balthazar, I think my mom made a mistake. I don’t have any plans to remarry at the moment."
Feeling a bit at a loss, Ivy scratched her brow, "Uh... actually, it’s like this, how should I put it, I don’t want to get married again."
"I understand how you feel," Balthazar nodded.
"So, you’re just here to pass time because of work?"
"Not really, I decided to meet you after seeing your photo.
I’ve had quite a few people introduced to me, but your picture felt like there was some connection.
Your mother said you were hurt in your past marriage and might take time to recover.
I’m not planning to pressure you into getting married right away, since I myself am still not over my past relationship.
I just think we could get to know each other, be friends, or just have someone to talk to.
After some time, if we find it suitable, we can then talk about marriage. What do you think?"
Ivy was really at a loss. What should she say? She still had feelings for her uncle.
Even though they couldn’t be together, that didn’t mean she could just accept someone else.
This was someone her mom had brought in; she couldn’t embarrass him in her house.
Balthazar seemed very gentlemanly; she couldn’t be too harsh.
After contemplating for a while, Ivy decided not to say anything. Since it was her mom who caused this, let her mom handle it.
Balthazar took a sip of water to moisten his lips.
"Your mom and I are in the same profession; I’m also a teacher. I’ve been living alone since my wife passed, and this time, I gathered the courage to start anew.
I know you’ve just gone through an emotional ordeal; please don’t feel pressured by what I said.
Ivy, in matters of the heart, just do your best, and as of now, I’m very interested in you."
Ivy turned her head to glance at him and pressed her lips together, just as her father came out the kitchen holding White Rice. She stood up, "Dad, let me take White Rice, she’s thirty pounds now, it’s heavy to hold."
"Your dad’s a soldier; he won’t be defeated by this weight.
In a bit, you should help clean up. Your mom’s about to finish cooking."
"Alright, then please look after Mr. Balthazar."
Ivy nodded at Balthazar and went into the kitchen.
She walked in, a bit exasperated, to her mom’s side, "Mom, are you crazy? How could you set me up for matchmaking without telling me in advance?
Do you know how awkward it was for me outside just now? Are you really my mom? I was so anxious."
"Oh, so Young Balthazar is so proactive and already told you?"
"What have you done? When did I ever say I wanted matchmaking?"
"You didn’t say, but as your mom, I should think about it for you.
This young man’s conditions are great, and I think you two suit each other well.
He’ll soon transfer to our university to teach, and I’ve always hoped you’d find a teacher."
Paisley Golden said with a satisfied smile, "Look at him, nearly 6’3", fit, with a good dress sense. Where would you find a man like that? Don’t be picky; you’re lucky he’s not."
Ivy looked her up and down, "You must not be my real mom, confirmed."
Paisley Golden laughed, "Sweetheart, if I weren’t, I wouldn’t introduce such a good young man to you.
Let me tell you, his parents instructed him to start dating.
His family doesn’t have the baggage yours did.
Since it’s a second marriage for both of you, there’s no issue of looking down on each other, and his daughter lives abroad with her grandma. You just have to take care of White Rice together.
Worse comes to worst, even if neither of you wants to take care of White Rice, you can leave her with me.
After all, I’m retiring soon and don’t plan to go back to school for rehire.
Lately, I’ll just take care of the child and enjoy this bliss."
Ivy scratched her brow, feeling a bit tipsy with these thoughts, "Mom, please don’t haphazardly pair people up.
You know my feelings for Henry Sullivan; it wasn’t because of incompatible feelings that we divorced.
I promised him I wouldn’t remarry."
"Are you planning to stay at home alone for the rest of your life? A woman needs someone to rely on.
I don’t mind you being with Henry, but his mother does.
All I ask is for you to have a home, a man, someone to rely on, so if something happens to your dad and me someday, there’ll be someone to protect you."
Ivy felt a wave of sadness; she suddenly missed her uncle.
