Billionaire Legacy: I Became Overpowered With My Spending System-Chapter 51 - Berserker’s Bait
Chapter 51: Chapter 51 - Berserker’s Bait
Glancing at the golden interface, Logan wondered how much he should put in this time.
’Last time I made around 400 million profit,’ he thought. ’The four times before that, I lost around 200 million in total.’
He still had 300 million dollars in his private bank account from the Imperial Church auction.
’Putting in all 300 million is too much,’ he thought. ’I’ll need some money for future investments, after all.’
Logan wanted to create a separate business from the ground up without any influence from his family name, but he had yet to decide what he really wanted.
After contemplating for a little longer, Logan made a decision.
"System," he said. "Redeem 200 million dollars."
[Redeeming 200 million US Dollars...]
[Ding!]
[Congratulations! You have successfully received Berserker’s bait.]
A small glass vial materialized in front of him, filled with a murky green liquid.
Logan narrowed his eyes. "Berserker’s bait?"
One look at the mana shield inscriptions on the vial told Logan that this wasn’t an ordinary item.
"It’s protected really well," he muttered. "I doubt I could even crack the vial at my current rank."
"But what is it?" Logan wondered, confused. He couldn’t figure out how this small vial could be worth 200 million dollars.
Logan glanced back at the system in hopes of some kind of explanation, but there wasn’t any. All he saw was the classic system interface and the cooldown.
[Cooldown 05:05:59:59]
’The timer only increased by 6 hours,’ Logan thought, making a mental note.
Glancing back at the Berserker’s bait vial, Logan shook his head.
’It says Berserker’s bait,’ he thought. ’I assume it’s some kind of bait that’s so good it makes creatures go berserk?’
He couldn’t verify his suspicions since people would ask questions about its origin. With that in mind, Logan made a decision.
’I’ll leave it in my hidden safe for now,’ he thought, standing up. ’If it really is some kind of bait, it might be useful during dungeon runs later.’
After putting the vial away, Logan crashed back onto his couch to browse the news.
"Global Arcane University finished their yearly worldwide assessments once again," the news anchor echoed through Logan’s hologram. "Today we interview Patel Ramos, winner of this year’s assessment with a total of 1890 points."
’Interesting,’ Logan thought, glancing at the boy. ’I almost forgot that the private assessments weren’t the only ones being held today.’
"Thank you," Patel said, smiling. "First of all, I want to thank my family and my school..."
Logan listened for a while longer before switching the channel in boredom.
"I’m currently reporting live from the scene where the S-rank hunter squad from the Alvarez family wiped out an entire water-creature siege," the news reporter said. "The siege here in Oregon lasted two hours, but I’m glad to report there were no casualties."
’The Alvarez family, huh,’ Logan thought. ’Their heir finished in third place today.’
This was the family Logan had immediately recognized at the assessment, one of their largest competitors within the United States.
’They will no doubt be a problem in the future,’ he thought, annoyed. According to Evelyn’s report, the Alvarez family had sabotaged more than one of their supplier deals.
’They always managed to somehow to outbid us just enough to make suppliers switch.’
Logan sighed, turning off the news. He’d heard enough for today and decided to continue cultivating his core.
’Eventually, I’ll make this company grow to the trillions,’ he thought, a quiet determination in his eyes as he walked to his bed. ’I can’t wait to see what the system will give me if I redeem a trillion dollars.’
Like that, three days flew by.
Logan spent his time training and finishing up any business that he still had lying around.
’The paperwork is endless,’ Logan thought, groaning at the stack of reports in the hologram’s folders.
His employees—or rather, Edric—had gone through the reports as usual, filling in details Logan didn’t know, sometimes even adding full documents just to explain what the business actually did.
’I don’t think I understand even 20% of all the processes going on here,’ Logan thought, shaking his head. ’I’ve mainly focused on the processing of raw mana stones and the works around it.’
’I still haven’t looked into shuttle production, core alchemy, military stuff, research departments... and probably a dozen other things,’ he thought, a miserable smile spreading across his face.
Logan snapped out of his thoughts as he received a message on his wristband. free𝑤ebnovel.com
"Oh," he mumbled. "It’s time to go."
He stood up, walking to the door as a smile spread on his face.
"Are you ready?" Edric asked, after Logan opened the door.
"Yes," Logan said, giving a small nod.
"Good, Silas is already waiting for us on the top deck," Edric said, smiling.
"No one will have access to my room while I’m gone, right?" Logan asked as they walked to the elevator.
"Of course not," Edric responded, shaking his head. "That room is specifically reserved for direct family members of the Mercer family."
"Good," Logan nodded, a smile spreading over his face.
After taking the elevator to the top deck with Edric, Logan spotted Silas waiting for them at the shuttle’s hatch.
"Took you long enough," Silas said, grinning. "You ready for the next period of your life, kid?"
Logan shook his head with a smile. "Of course, of course," he said. "I can’t wait."
Once inside the shuttle, Logan sat down in the lounge area with Edric and Silas.
A short silence fell as Silas and Edric turned to Logan.
"So... want to play cards?" Logan asked, breaking the silence.
Both Silas and Edric turned to each other with a smile.
"Sure," Edric nodded, grabbing a pack of cards out of his pocket.
"You’ll both regret this," Silas said, smirking.
That confidence vanished the moment he saw his first hand.
"What’s that?" Edric asked, faking confusion on his face. "Did you not get good cards?"
Silas’s expression turned ashen. "How?" he asked aloud. "How do I keep getting such terrible luck?"
Logan glanced between Silas and Edric, unable to hold back a laugh when he saw Silas’s ridiculous expression.
