Billionaire Legacy: I Became Overpowered With My Spending System-Chapter 114 - Battlefield!
Chapter 114: Chapter 114 - Battlefield!
Logan’s eyes fell on the line of mana turrets as he jogged, curiosity flashing past his eyes.
These massive cannon-like structures had trucks with raw mana cores underneath them, with several military personnel working on loading and cooling the turrets after each shot.
’How powerful are those things?’ he wondered.
Quickly shaking his head, Logan fixed his eyes on the smoke up ahead.
His hands were wrapped tightly around his glaive, activating his mana sight as he sprinted through the smoke.
’Nothing outside of other mercenaries,’ he thought, narrowing his eyes.
As he got through the smoke, he saw the actual battlefield half a mile in front of him.
Dozens of mercenaries and military groups were handling large crab-like creatures with massive shells on their backs.
A mile or two in front of them, he saw a literal sea of creatures, ranging from large crabs to smaller green fishmen.
’There have to be thousands of them,’ he thought, coming to a stop with his mouth wide open.
Just then, the mana turrets behind him roared to life, shaking the ground as they fired massive white spheres.
Logan narrowed his eyes as the spheres detonated in the distant sea of monsters.
For a moment, he was surprised—until he understood what was happening.
"We are just here to clear out the stragglers," he said with a nod as he started moving again.
As the smoke cleared in the distance, his theory was confirmed—only a few hundred creatures were still alive and continued advancing.
Mercenary groups split up to his left and right, each making sure they stayed as far away as possible from other groups.
Off to the right side, however, he saw a small group of crab-like creatures that had broken away from the main groups and managed to slip through the front line.
’No one is covering that?’ he thought, raising an eyebrow as he dashed towards the creatures.
As he closed in, Logan activated his mana sight to check their ranks.
"Four D-ranks and two C-ranks," he muttered, raising his left hand.
He didn’t activate his flaming body technique this time. As tempting as it was, he was here to train — and he didn’t want to run out of mana as he had no clue how long the battle would drag on.
Undead mana inside his body was channeled out rapidly, summoning several dark chains that bound themselves around one of the C-rank crabs.
The bound crab let out strange, wet clicking sounds, instantly alerting its allies.
The other C-rank crab turned to Logan first, a concentrated water beam shooting out from within one of its claws.
Logan stepped to the side and quickly conjured several bone spikes beside him.
’Let’s get rid of the D-ranks first,’ he thought, pointing at the crabs.
The bone spikes shot through the air, spinning wildly as they went towards the D-rank crabs.
The C-rank crab noticed Logan’s goal, stepping to the side in an attempt to block the spikes with its claw.
’Too late for that,’ Logan thought.
The crab just barely managed to block three of the bone spikes, the other four quickly met their targets, piercing deep into two of the D-ranks’ bodies.
Without hesitating, Logan spun to the right of the C-rank crab.
Since it had blocked the bone spikes aimed at its allies, it had left the bound C-rank wide open.
A red flame appeared on the edge of Logan’s glaive as he closed the distance in seconds.
The bound crab made faint clicking sounds, hoping to draw its ally’s attention.
But it was too late.
Logan’s glaive sliced cleanly through the creature’s skull. The crab spasmed once, its legs twitching before collapsing onto the ground behind him.
The chains dissolved quickly, revealing patches of rotting flesh from the spell’s passive weakening effect.
Logan quickly spun around again, glancing at his remaining enemies.
’One of the D-ranks seems to have died from the bone spikes,’ he thought, narrowing his eyes. ’That leaves just three D-ranks and one C-rank.’
The remaining C-rank crab clicked wildly, enraged that Logan had killed its companion.
Glancing at the corpse of the C-rank crab, Logan suddenly had an idea.
’I haven’t gotten the chance to use this technique before,’ he thought, undead mana pouring out of his palm towards the creature’s corpse.
The remaining C-rank crab didn’t wait around though, shooting several high-pressure water beams towards him. Even the D-ranks joined in, launching small water bullets from their claws.
Activating the basic form of his flaming body technique, Logan dodged all the bullets, his eyes still focused on the crab’s corpse.
’This isn’t something I can use in active combat again,’ he thought.
Logan watched the corpse closely, anticipation building as the undead mana finally stopped flowing from his body.
The corpse spasmed violently, making the other crabs back away in fear. Even Logan felt a chill roll down his spine as he watched it struggle to come back to life.
Pushing one of its claws into the ground, the corpse stood up, its head immediately spinning around to its previous allies.
Logan gestured towards them, a small thread of undead mana leaving his body.
Without hesitation, the corpse ran forward, crashing against the C-rank crab and pinning it down.
’Seems like I can’t make it use mana attacks,’ Logan thought, walking closer.
The corpse was violently snapping its claws at anything it could, even piercing one of the C-rank’s eyes.
Watching the three D-rank crabs running away from the corner of his eye, Logan created three smaller fireballs in the air beside him.
Aiming at the crabs, he released them.
The fireballs shot forward—although less fast than the bone spikes, they were fast enough to catch up to the crabs.
Small explosions rang out as the fireballs connected with the D-rank crabs, burning them to a crisp in seconds.
Turning his eyes back to the fight between the two C-rank crabs, Logan noticed the corpse was about to lose.
The C-rank crab had blasted several high-pressure water beams through its body, rendering it incapable of moving.
Though it itself hadn’t come off with light injuries either.
One of its claws had been completely snapped off, several of its legs were missing, and one of its eyes had been pierced.
Before it could shove the corpse off, Logan stepped in and drove his burning glaive through its head.
Glancing around, Logan saw countless groups dealing with similar numbers of creatures.
’This is just the edge of the front lines,’ he thought, clenching his glaive tightly. ’Good. This is the best kind of pressure.’
Before he could look for his next targets, the sound of a horn echoed over the battlefield.
"Retreat!" Logan heard from another mercenary group close to him. "There’s a few big ones coming!"
