Billionaire Legacy: I Became Overpowered With My Spending System-Chapter 104 - New Destination And Dark Wasteland??
Chapter 104: Chapter 104 - New Destination And Dark Wasteland??
After Livia left his room, Logan leaned back, staring at the ceiling.
’I should head back to headquarters for now,’ he thought, calculating. ’I’m suspended from using the university’s facilities, and with the Alvarez conflict on the horizon, there’s no reason to stay here.’
Glancing at his hologram, Logan decided to call Edric right away.
’’Edric,’’ Logan said with a smile as the call connected.
’’Is everything alright, Logan?’’ Edric asked immediately, a worried expression on his face.
Logan chuckled, shaking his head. ’’There’s nothing wrong with me... but I do need your help.’’
’’Whatever you want,’’ he answered right away, giving a nod with a firm expression.
’’I need you to come pick me up,’’ Logan said, smiling. ’’There’s no point in staying here.’’
Edric understood immediately, giving a firm nod. ’’I’ll be there in a few hours.’’
’’Thank you,’’ Logan said gratefully, disconnecting the call.
He glanced out the window, letting the peaceful view of the mountains calm his thoughts.
Turning away from the window, Logan shook his head. He had too much to do, too many things to prepare. He couldn’t sit around and enjoy peace. The Alvarez family wouldn’t wait, and neither would his future enemies.
’The first fast food locations should open in two weeks,’ he thought, reviewing a report from the newly hired North America regional manager.
Edric had sent him the resumes of six people he’d personally vetted—experienced enough to do the job, but still young and immensely grateful for their first big position.
’It’s an easy way to guarantee loyalty,’ Logan thought, satisfied with the report sent to him.
He’d made sure plenty of resources were available for the newly hired managers.
Especially Hailey, the regional manager for North America, had enough funding to hire several people under her since there was no way she could manage 500 locations alone.
’I really wonder how popular my Monster Meals fast food chain will become,’ he thought, having high expectations.
Logan had no doubt it would become popular. The only question was when.
He smiled as he turned off the hologram projector and walked over to his bed.
’I’ll cultivate until Edric gets here,’ he thought, closing his eyes.
Looking at his new pristine silver core, he started drawing mana strands from not one, but both his affinities.
’That’s where the difference in ranks really shines,’ he thought, his cultivation speed practically having doubled.
Usually, people didn’t deviate more than one rank from their original rank when awakening new affinities.
But that one rank difference is immense.
Hours flew by when Logan finally heard a soft beep coming from his watch.
’He’s here,’ he thought, glancing at Edric’s message.
Standing up, Logan stored his items inside his space ring with a smile before stepping out of the door.
He walked through the mostly empty corridors towards the air shuttle deck, humming while enjoying the silence around him.
Even though the corridors were mostly empty, the students who were there stared at him wide-eyed.
The outcome of the much-anticipated duel had spread around just as quickly as when it had been announced.
Though, no one had expected this outcome back then.
Stepping out on the air shuttle deck with the pitch-black night sky above him, Logan peered around in search of the Mercer flagship.
He smiled as he spotted the ship in the distance, finding Edric already lowering the hatch with himself on it.
’’Edric,’’ Logan greeted, smiling as he walked towards him.
’’Good night, Logan,’’ Edric said warmly.
’’We have a lot to prepare for,’’ Logan said, stepping onto the hatch.
’’Certainly,’’ Edric nodded, the hatch slowly raising itself into the massive flagship.
Sitting down on one of the couches in the lounge area, Logan looked at Edric. ’’Did anything happen in the past few hours?’’ he asked, uncertain.
Edric shook his head, tossing Logan a bottle of hydration wine.
’’Nothing yet,’’ he said, worried. ’’It’s been complete radio silence from the Alvarez family.’’
Logan nodded slowly, pouring himself a glass. ’’Could be grief, or they could be preparing something,’’ he said casually.
Edric raised an eyebrow. ’’Are you not worried?’’ he asked, confused. ’’The Holy Cross Guild and Alvarez family have enough resources to purchase our subsidiaries one by one to pressure us.’’
Smiling, Logan shook his head.
’’Who says the Alvarez family is the only one who can find backers?’’ he asked, his smile turning into a grin. ’’I happen to have settled a contract with the Imperial Church.’’
Edric’s hand froze in midair, staring at Logan with wide eyes. ’’I thought you rejected them?’’ he asked, confused.
’’I did... initially,’’ Logan said, taking a sip of his wine. ’’But they accepted my counteroffer.’’
’’What do we have to do?’’ Edric asked, narrowing his eyes slightly.
Pulling up the contract he’d signed on the hologram projector, Logan turned the screen towards Edric.
’’Nothing much,’’ he answered as Edric read through the contract. ’’We just need to push out their name and help them settle within North America.’’
Edric stayed quiet, scanning the contract. His expression shifted from confusion... to surprise... then excitement.
Leaning back, he stared at Logan. ’’How did you manage to get them to agree to this?’’ he asked, a mix of emotions running through him.
Logan merely smiled silently, not daring to tell Edric he’d sent a threat to the Church.
The rest of the trip home, Edric asked all about the duel and Logan’s new affinity.
It was still early in the night once they reached the Mercer headquarters due to the massive time difference between the Alps and America.
Stepping out in the dark, Logan yawned as he stretched his arms.
Edric walked him back to his room. As soon as the door shut, Logan crashed into bed, completely wiped out.
’It really was a lot today,’ he thought, glancing up at the familiar ceiling.
Logan fell into a deep sleep.
Unbeknownst to him, a dark mana settled over his body as he started dreaming.
In his dream, he forced his eyes open as he started hearing loud screeches all around him.
’’What the...?’’ he muttered, pushing himself up.
Staring up at the pitch-black sky above him, he immediately guessed something was wrong.
’Where is this?’ he thought, his eyes wandering around the place.
No matter where he looked, all he could see was dark soil and pure black trees.
’’Is this a dream?’’ he mumbled, remembering the dream about the phoenix he’d had.
Quickly pinching himself in his arm, he could feel the pain.
Chills ran down his spine as he realized that it wasn’t a dream.
’’What kind of sick joke is this?’’ he muttered, his eyes wide as he looked around.
Slowly standing up, he got a better view of everything around him.
Massive brown mountains loomed in the distance, with strange white structures that looked like a forest made of bones.
Suddenly, he saw a black dot move in the distance.
Fully alert, he squinted his eyes and carefully watched its every move.
The small black dot rapidly sped towards him, making his hair stand on end.
Logan immediately tried summoning his glaive. But it was of no use. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t draw any mana from his affinities.
As the creature got closer, Logan could finally get a better look at it.
’Is that a rat?’ he thought, raising an eyebrow as he saw its fur and long tail.
He readied himself for hand-to-hand combat as it continued straight towards him.
The rat-like creature ran fast, but just as it reached him and Logan wanted to kick it, it accelerated and dashed straight through him.
’’What?’’ Logan said, spinning around.
The rat had run through him like he didn’t even exist.
’Is this a dream after all?’ he wondered, but he couldn’t tell for sure anymore.
Before he had more time to think, he heard far more screeches and cries from the direction the rat had come from.
The ground around him started shaking as hundreds of the same rats ran straight towards him.
But that wasn’t all he saw.
Far behind the rats, he saw walking skeletons, skeletal horses, massive dark bats, and countless other undead sprinting at full speed.
And their full speed was fast—the bats flying faster than he could even track with his eyes, and even the walking skeletons reaching the same speeds as average Silver Cores.
’What are they running from?’ was the first thing that popped up in Logan’s mind.
As they reached him, the ground shook even more heavily than before, almost knocking him off his feet.
But they all simply dashed around him or through him.
One thing was clear to Logan from the look in their eyes.
Pure terror.
After the last of them rushed past and his view was no longer blocked, he froze as his eyes locked onto the source of their terror.
A massive humanoid skeleton as tall as the mountains around it, far on the horizon.
’What in the god’s name is that?’ Logan muttered, his face draining of color.
