Beta Complex-Chapter 51: Don’t Come Over Anymore
Ethan is frowning from the doorway of the kitchen as his mother observes him from the prepping table. When she asked what he needed, her son waves her off with an excuse of just needing a quick snap, only he hasn’t taken a bite from the alley in his hand. Jessie draws her attention, and she shrugs off the off feeling. If Ethan needed help, he would have asked.
The beta watches the interaction between Zander and Chris. Things look heated between them as they talk, Zander frowning and Chris giving him a mean smile that he’s never seen on the omega before. Ethan pulls at his ear lobe, his other hand tightening around the skin of the fruit. Are they arguing because Chris is spending time with him?
He purses his lips, if Zander is already in a relationship with the omega, then why does he keep bothering him? Why did he come over and give him a blow job? Is that the real reason they’re arguing? Is Chris upset because Zander is actually cheating on him? Ethan pales, oh gosh, is he the ’other woman’ in this situation?
Guilt settles in his gut. He didn’t know they were together like that. Is that why Chris wanted to get close to him? To see how far they’ve gone?
What has he done? He doesn’t want to be the person who destroys a relationship between two people. He’s only a beta, he has no place between an alpha and an omega. He groans quietly, this is a reason why Ethan avoided dating other people. There’s too much drama and energy that goes into it.
Sucking in a breath, Ethan walks back over to the table with new determination.
"Is everything okay?" He asks. He doesn’t sit back down, he stands at the side of the table, glancing between them with a frown. Zander glances up at him, his green eyes blazing with anger. The beta flinches and instead turns his head to look at Chris.
He looks small and timid, as he reaches up to rub the back of his neck. "Yeah," he clears his throat and smiles as if he’s trying to show that he’s not worked up. "I was actually going to leave." Chris stands up and tucks long strands of blonde hair behind his ear. "I didn’t have much free time but I wanted to stop by and say hi."
Ethan eyebrows furrow, "Yeah, sure." He steps back to allow the omega out of the booth. Chris is shorter than him only coming up to the top of his shoulders. "I’ll see you later?"
"Yeah." Chris’ smile seems forced and he turns to Zander, the expression growing dark, "See you later, Zander." He turns and walks out of the restaurant, the door chiming behind him.
Ethan turns to glance down at the alpha, but he’s still glaring at where Chris had once sat. Yup, they definitely had a lovers spat. Ethan’s chest grows heavy and instead of taking the spot Chris once took up, he crosses his arms over his chest and glares. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"I don’t think you should come over anymore." he says, his voice firm. He’s going to put his foot down and end this. It isn’t right, what Zander is doing to that poor omega. Or to Ethan. If the beta had known, he never would’ve let things go so far between them.
Zander’s head snaps up to look at him, his green eyes going wide, "What?"
The beta sighs, "I don’t think it’s right that you come over here to mess with me when you already have a boyfriend." He nods his head to where Chris just left the restaurant. "And you didn’t really tell me you had someone, either." He sighs and reaches up to ruffle his brown hair, "I didn’t think you were that kind of person."
Then again, when they first met, Zander was getting the shit beat out of him for some reason Ethan doesn’t know. So, does he really know the alpha at all?
"What?" Zander repeats himself, his voice giving away to his disbelief. "What in the world gave you that impression?"
"Does it really matter?" Ethan asks. A butter taste enters his mouth and he clears his throat. "What you’re doing is wrong." He scoffs out, "And don’t worry. I’ll keep my distance from him too. I’d rather not be in the middle of you two." He waves his hand at him, his lips pressing firmly together. He glares at the alpha as he sees him in another light. He reaches over him to grab his backpack. He throws it over his shoulder and takes a step back. "Anyway, don’t contact me again. And treat Chris better too. He’s nice and deserves better."
Zander blinks after his retreating form, what the fuck just happened? His hands curl into fists, as he fights the urge to go after him. He just ended the relationship before it even started. All thanks to that selfish omega. Did they give off the vibe of an arguing couple?
He scoffs, he can’t even tell Ethan the truth. Would he even believe him if he did? After finally making a little progress with the beta, it all goes down the drain despite his intentions. Was that Chris’ plan? To wedge a distance between them so he could weasel his way in?
Damn it! He scans the lobby, but everyone else is manding their business. Shoving up from the table, he takes a deep breath to calm his nerves. No, this can be a good thing. If Zander leaves Ethan alone, then maybe Chris will too. He scoffs, yeah right. He just gave away his entire master plan. It doesn’t matter if Zander still wants Ethan or not. The omega has already made up his mind.
Why did the beta have to draw in all sorts of weird people? Zander walks out of the restaurant, a heavy weight settling into the pit of his stomach. He’ll just use this sudden distance between them to his advantage. He pulls out his phone and makes a phone call.
"We need to talk." Zander says, his voice low and deep. He doesn’t bother with a greeting. "Not when he has things to set into motion before it’s too late. "Where are you?"
