Belated Moonlight: He Regretted Only After I Left-Chapter 48: Finally Understand Why Big Brother Hates Shane Donovan!
The man’s face was cold, with sharp brows and eyes, bearing a five or six-point resemblance to Stella Sterling, only with more rugged lines. At this moment, his tight jaw and tightly pressed thin lips exuded a frightening anger like brewing storm.
It was Stella Sterling’s older brother—Aidan Sterling.
"Brother?!" Stella was taken aback, "You... why are you here?!"
Aidan did not answer her. He strode forward, ignored Shane Donovan, directly reached out and pulled the suit jacket off Stella’s shoulder, casually throwing it back to Shane Donovan.
Then, he took off his suit jacket and draped it over Stella’s shoulders, wrapping her tightly.
Shane caught the suit jacket that was thrown back to him, casually hung it over his arm, a faint smile appeared on his lips.
"President Sterling, long time no see."
Their gazes clashed in mid-air, with Stella awkwardly caught in between, sparks flying.
Caught in the middle, Stella inexplicably felt overwhelmed.
Aidan sneered, undisguised hostility in his eyes, "President Donovan, what a coincidence, meeting you in this small place in Riveria."
The words ’small place’ were emphasized heavily.
Shane seemed unaffected by the sarcasm in his words, his expression unchanged, "Riveria certainly cannot compare with the vast overseas expanses, but I’ve heard the weather abroad has been unpredictable lately. President Sterling, you’re not exactly young anymore, better take care of yourself."
"..."
Listening on the side, Stella felt cold sweat pouring out.
She finally understood why her brother disliked Shane Donovan.
That mouth of his was truly vicious!
Her brother was only two years older than Shane Donovan...
Yet in his mouth, it’s as if he’s become an old man in need of care.
"No need for your concern, President Donovan!" Aidan chuckled lightly, "It’s getting late, President Donovan should hurry home, lest he gets struck by lightning in a while..."
In the middle, Stella only felt her scalp tingling.
She could even feel the dense sound of raindrops hitting the umbrella was unable to suppress the explosive tension between the two.
"Brother!" She couldn’t help but tug on Aidan’s sleeve, attempting to ease the atmosphere, "It’s raining so heavily, let’s talk in the car first..."
Saying this, without waiting for Aidan to speak, she had already pulled his arm forcefully towards the Maybach.
Aidan was dragged by her, though his expression was still unpleasant, he held back for his sister’s sake, without losing his temper on the spot.
He glanced coldly at Shane Donovan, then opened the car door and got in.
While Shane Donovan stood still, holding a black umbrella, unmoving.
The Maybach roared its engine, splashing water, quickly merging into the traffic, disappearing into the hazy rain.
Only after the car was completely out of sight did Shane Donovan slowly regain his gaze.
He looked down at the suit jacket in the crook of his arm thrown back by Aidan Sterling, which seemed to retain a faint scent.
After a while, he scarcely curved his lips, turned, and got into the car.
...
Meanwhile, inside the Maybach, the atmosphere was so oppressive it was hard to breathe.
Aidan Sterling drove with a tense expression, jawline stretched tight, silent.
Stella sat in the passenger seat, watching the rapidly retreating rainy scenery outside, her heart uneasy.
She knew her brother was angry, extremely angry.
The car eventually stopped at the entrance of Stella’s rented high-end apartment building.
"Get out of the car." Aidan’s voice was cold and hard, devoid of warmth.
Stella obediently followed behind him, like a little student.
The apartment was meticulously decorated by her, with warm-toned soft furnishings, green plants scattered freely, and even a comfortable hanging chair on the balcony, all exuding warmth and life.
Aidan stood in the center of the living room, his sharp gaze scanning around, his expression barely easing.
"Explain."
Stella paused, lifted her head, squeezing out a flattering smile, "Brother, explain what? Did you come to see me? Are Mom and Dad alright? How did you find this place?"
"Don’t try to fool me!" Aidan interrupted her sternly, his brows knitted tightly, "I ask you, what’s going on between you and Shane Donovan?!"
He took two steps forward, staring intensely at Stella, "Do you even know who he is? You managed to escape from Jasper’s pit of fire, only to immediately get entangled with him?! Stella, must you fall into the same pit twice?!"
"I didn’t!" Stella retorted, feeling somewhat aggrieved from his shouting, her voice raised, "Shane Donovan and I just have a normal working relationship! He’s a client of my law firm! It was raining today, he just wanted to give me a lift on the way!"
"Client? On the way?" Aidan seemed to hear an enormous joke, sneered, "Who is Shane Donovan? The Crown Prince of The Donovan Group, the creator of Innovatech Bio, which is hot overseas, would he have no law firm to cooperate with? Choosing your newly opened little firm? Even ’on the way’? Is Shane Donovan’s time so worthless to specifically detour to pick you up after work?!"
"Think about it! He’s approaching you with another motive!"
"What could he possibly want from me?" Stella was also getting anxious, "I have no money, no power, just a lawyer starting out..."
"He wants you!" Aidan interrupted her, eyes sharp as knives, "Because you are The Sterling Family’s daughter! Because you are my sister Aidan Sterling! He has fought me for so many years, now he targets you, his intent deserves condemnation!"
The more he spoke, the angrier he became, chest heaving violently, "Do you know how ruthless Shane Donovan is? How deep his thoughts are? Can you compete with him? Jasper was at least a rock that couldn’t be warmed, Shane Donovan is a venomous snake that devours people without spitting out bones! Getting close to him, you’ll be left with nothing!"
"Brother! You’re too prejudiced against him!" Stella couldn’t help but counter, "He helped me without ever asking for anything, nor has he ever used me..."
"That’s him fishing with a long line!" Aidan roared, his temple vein jumping, "Once he traps you, you won’t even know how you died! Stella, when will you grow up? When will you stop making the family worry?!"
His words cut like knives, stabbing Stella’s heart.
She knew her brother was troubled because he cared, but this complete denial of her judgment and choices nevertheless made her feel immense grievance and suffocation.
Five years.
She left home for five years, fought alone in Kenton, endured so much hardship, faced so much injustice, she never complained to her family.
She thought she was strong enough, independent enough.
But in her brother’s eyes, she seems forever the silly little sister who needs protection and is easily deceived.
Her eyes uncontrollably grew sour, she defiantly lifted her head, withholding her tears.
The atmosphere in the living room reached its peak tension, like a fully drawn bowstring, ready to snap.
But just at this moment, Stella’s stomach unruly grumbled.
The sound was especially clear in the quiet room.
