Belated Moonlight: He Regretted Only After I Left-Chapter 15: Has Jasper Hawthorne Lost His Mind?!
Elias Peyton was feeling quite unhappy about the contract at the moment when he suddenly noticed the incoming call display on the table—
Jasper?
Elias raised an eyebrow, now this was a rare sight!
This person is actually calling him?!
Seeing that Stella Sterling had already signed the contract, Elias immediately asked his assistant to check it and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window in the conference room with his phone. His tone carried a hint of humor and sarcasm, "Oh, Attorney Hawthorne? What kind of wind is blowing today that you’re personally calling me?"
He was still waiting for Jasper to retort with his usual cold sarcasm, but the voice coming through the receiver completely surprised him.
"Have you seen Stella Sterling recently?"
The moment these words were spoken, Elias was startled for a moment, even wondering if he had misheard.
Is this Jasper?
When did he learn to speak properly?
Elias instinctively turned to glance at Stella.
She was slightly tilting her head, listening to Finn Lockwood whispering something, her profile was soft as if she didn’t care who she was calling.
Somehow, a strange feeling arose in Elias’s heart. He cleared his throat and deliberately lengthened his tone, "Stella Sterling? Which Stella Sterling are you talking about? Oh... I remember, she’s that little junior back then who cleaned up your messes for you?"
His words were sharp and pierced the heart, expecting to anger Jasper, but only heard a heavier breathing from the other end of the call, with a trace of barely noticeable weakness, "Elias Peyton! I don’t have time to beat around the bush with you! Just consider I owe you a favor, tell me, have you seen her or not?"
Elias was completely stunned.
This was the first time he had seen Jasper like this...
Not like Jasper.
The cold, hard shell seemed to have shattered, revealing a vivid inside never shown before.
This even made him forget to sneer for a moment, instinctively wanting to truthfully inform—she’s right here with me. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"She..."
But before he could finish a word, Shane Donovan, who had been silent behind him, suddenly spoke, "Counselor Peyton..."
Shane’s fingers lightly tapped the smooth tabletop, making a light sound, his tone even and calm, "Look at this supplement clause."
Elias’s heart skipped a beat. He hurriedly said to the phone, "I’ve got urgent matters here; let’s talk later!"
Without waiting for Jasper’s reaction on the other side, he quickly hung up the phone and turned to walk towards Shane Donovan.
"President Donovan..."
Elias was originally lost in thought, but when he met Shane’s lifted gaze, his thoughts were instantly suppressed.
Shane’s eyes were calm, showing no emotions, but Elias felt an inexplicable pressure, as if his boss’s mood wasn’t... so pleasant?
Because of this losing compensation settlement case?
Or is it because...
Elias dared not think further, immediately collected his mind, respectfully bent over to look at the so-called supplement clauses.
Meanwhile, Stella’s face showed no reaction, yet the voice from Elias’s end of the call had still managed to sneak into her ears.
Somehow, the lake surface within her, which she thought had stabilized, still ended up being stirred by a thrown stone, rippling in waves.
Jasper was still searching for her?
Over a month had passed, she thought he should have long flown off into bliss with Grace Quinn.
But what does this mean now?
Is it because he found it hard to adjust to life without a hard-working tool by his side, taking care of countless troubles for him?
Or is he looking to continue having her as Grace Quinn’s moving blood bank?
Stella’s lips curled into a sarcastic smile.
She took a deep breath, pressing the last bit of chaotic thoughts back to the bottom of her heart, picked up the signed agreement, and stood up, "President Donovan, Counselor Peyton, since the agreement is signed, we’ll take our leave for now, we’ll follow up promptly on subsequent matters."
Shane lifted his gaze from the document, resting on her face, he nodded slightly without saying much, "Mm."
Stella no longer lingered, picked up her belongings, and left the conference room with a still slightly dazed Finn Lockwood.
The elevator went down all the way.
Finn excitedly rubbed his hands, "Boss! You’re too amazing! A million! You actually negotiated it down! Our firm can definitely count this as a grand opening? Tonight calls for a celebration!"
Stella tugged at the corners of her mouth but without much humor, her heart muddled.
The elevator doors opened, the moist, slightly cool air of Riveria flooded in, dispelling some of the stifling frustration.
Just as the two were walking to the building’s entrance, Finn, having just used a mobile app to call for a ride, instinctively looked down at his phone.
Suddenly, he seemed to see some explosive news, took a sharp breath, and exclaimed, "What the hell?! No way?!"
Stella was startled, frowned at him, "What’s going on? Why so surprised?"
Finn abruptly shoved the phone screen in front of Stella, eyes widened, voice changed with shock, "Bo...boss! Look! Kenton University Alumni Forum... does this Stella they’re talking about... could it really be you?!"
Stella glanced down in confusion—
She saw the hottest post title on the Kenton University Alumni Forum glaringly written: [Heavy Reward for Finding a Person! Stella Sterling, Female, former Kenton Clearstone Law Firm assistant attorney...]
Poster’s ID: Jasper.
The replies below had already built a high tower.
[What the hell?! Actual person?! Senior Jasper?!]
[Really the legendary Jasper himself? Why would he post something like this?]
[Senior Stella? Didn’t she co-found Clearstone Law Firm with Jasper? What’s going on?]
["Generous reward for providing valid leads"... What’s happening? Did they have a fight?]
[This tone doesn’t sound like a quarrel, more like she’s missing...]
[Haven’t been able to reach her for over a month? What’s the situation? Missing?]
Stella’s breath halted sharply, blood seemed to rush to her brain in an instant, only to swiftly retreat, making her ears buzz.
Jasper has gone mad?
He even used such an almost public method, on the Kenton forum... to search for her?
What exactly is he up to?!
To completely get away, she had acted so resolutely, resigned her job, sold her house, severed all means of contact he could find, even deliberately bought a ticket abroad to create a facade, finally making her way to hide in a corner of Riveria.
She thought she had made herself clear enough that she was yielding to him and his childhood sweetheart, exiting his life.
But why?
Why has it been over a month, and he still won’t let her go?
"Boss...is this...is he really looking for you?" Finn looked at Stella’s suddenly changed expression; the answer was already clear in his heart, shocked beyond belief, couldn’t close his mouth, "Attorney Hawthorne, he...he is this... you guys..."
Stella stuffed the phone back into Finn’s hand, her expression unchanged, "It’s not me."
"Huh?"
"Huh, what? Let’s go, heading back to the firm."
Finn looked at her back, then again at the post on his phone, full of disbelief.
His idol Jasper...
And his boss Stella...
Gosh!
The amount of information is overwhelming!
