Chapter 307 -33: The Fiery Siege

Atop the rooftop of a derelict building beside the Great Demon Lake.

Icy frost swept over everything, a thick layer of frost hung on the cement ground and the twisted antennas. Scattered amongst the black charred marks, brass casings littered the ground. Li Yan slowly stood firm, the chilling Ring Dragon Sword held horizontally across his chest, and on his body, several shallow wounds healed at a speed visible to the naked eye.

It was from this Super Sensitive Yak that Li Yan had seen the most comprehensive display of genetic abilities since coming to this world.

“Steel Skull” capable of resisting high-power rifle shots, “Wandering Deity” with keen perception, expertise in close combat, and high-speed movement, “Wanderer” enhancing shooting accuracy, “Fire-addict” increasing the power of firearms, “Psychic Mover” with storage space, and so on—a wide variety of mutually complementary abilities. Combined with extremely seasoned combat experience and mastery over various firearms, from long-range sniping, mid-range firepower, to close combat, Super Sensitive Yak hardly had any weaknesses to speak of.

However, Li Yan also felt that this girl’s abilities did not have any particularly outstanding strengths…

Previously relying on firearms and controlling the living dead to fight, Super Sensitive Yak now held in her hands two sharp sections of iron pipe, freshly broken, apparently snapped off by force.

The two had been entangled in combat for just over a minute. She had discarded a Gatling gun, two Morlock pistols, and in the end, only had the broken iron pipe to confront her enemy with.

On one hand, the chilling sword light almost denied her any opportunity to shoot again; on the other, she was surprised to find that facing the bizarre blue glow on this man’s body, the iron pipe had a more notable effect than bullets.

She licked her bloodless lips and looked up at Li Yan, who was more than two heads taller than herself, without a hint of backing down.

Li Yan’s Han Sword flowed in sweeping motions, with thrusting, pricking, and chopping that were incessant, and droplets of blood scattered from the tip of the sword, not long before the two iron pipes, not to mention, the Super Sensitive Yak’s dress, also became a galaxy of red stars.

Originally, the sharpness level of the Ring Dragon Sword was less than thirty, which was insufficient to harm the flesh and bones of a Yak-class warrior. All this was thanks to the “Green Wave’s” real damage, which in theory, allowed Li Yan to use it to inflict harm on any living creature, as long as the Ring Dragon Sword could bear the load.

Boom~

Super Sensitive Yak’s back smashed through the welded iron gate, and her entire body flew out backwards, tumbling awkwardly down the stairs. Li Yan stood in the doorway blocking the sunlight, gazing down at her from on high.

Blood slid down Super Sensitive Yak’s eyelids; she stared incredulously at Li Yan’s hand where the Han Sword was now longer than an ordinary blade. It was hard to imagine that a seemingly ordinary metal sword could actually pierce her skin, impenetrable even to rifle bullets.

After the fierce winter, human development took a deformed turn—large-caliber firearms and the evolution of human genetic abilities, followed by mining and excavating, as well as the development of military equipment in hostile environments.

No company would waste time and effort on such adolescent fantasies as forging a “magic sword that could cut through iron as if it were mud.”

But Super Sensitive Yak had seen it today…

Li Yan’s nose twitched, the smell of blood on the sword tip was unbearable and indistinguishable from that of other living dead.

“Did they ever consider that you might not be a match for us when they sent you?”

Li Yan didn’t want to just kill her like this; otherwise, he would have used the Tiger Head Great Spear to crush her skull earlier. On one hand, living people were more valuable than the dead, and the living dead were no exception; on the other hand, if the Great Demon Lake could send a fourth-order Yak to hunt Li Yan, it meant they had more than one fourth-order warrior. Since Super Sensitive Yak could use the abilities of all the living dead and Yak warriors, it was necessary to observe and be prepared in advance.

Super Sensitive Yak wiped the blood from her face, her gestures were forceful, and her expression as fierce as a wildcat: “Don’t be too smug just yet.”

Before her words finished, Li Yan dived down, his sword tip already thrusting towards her face, and with a ‘chi’ sound, it pierced two inches into the wall.

“Hm?”

Li Yan twisted his wrist, and the blade, exuding cold air, rotated, causing white wall plaster and earth to crumble down.

Suddenly, he turned around, and the Han Sword in his hand spun out and flew, piercing the neck of a living corpse at the doorway, half its body stained with blood, wearing Kuang Zhuoma’s uniform. Its raised arm also fell limply, but its body was strapped with a circle of plastic explosives, and the pin of the grenade in its hand was already pulled.

Blinding flashes of light engulfed everything.

Thick yellow flames bursting with texture shattered the windows, and the entire top floor collapsed with a thunderous crash, reducing the abandoned four-story building by over two meters as dust sprayed in all directions.

Li Yan emerged from the broken windows below, and amid the rubble of fallen concrete, Super Sensitive Yak also struggled to his feet.

The messy sound of footsteps came from all around, and Li Yan recognized these people’s faces. They were covered in blood and injuries, each wearing Kuang Zhuoma combat uniforms. Apart from their wooden expressions and stiff gait, they all, without exception, had a large amount of explosives strapped to them. They held RG42 offensive grenades in their hands and were adorned with Black Gunpowder and Silver Azide. These explosives were more crudely manufactured which meant compared to C4 that would burn quietly when thrown into fire, these simple explosives were far more devastating—and extremely unstable.

“No wonder she kept running to this building.”

Li Yan looked around and realized the surroundings were extremely open; it was hard to find any cover to hide behind. There were at least forty or fifty of these creatures without any angle for cover.

At this life-and-death moment, Li Yan displayed no intense emotional turmoil. He sheathed the Han Sword, bent his knees slightly, and charged in the direction where the encirclement was relatively weak!

Boom, boom, boom~~~

One by one, the living corpses were ignited by the flames, engulfing Li Yan.

Once one living corpse exploded, the rest were successively set ablaze, and the high temperature turned swathes of sand into the color of glass.

The ferocious smoke and dense mist surged towards the sky, merging into rolling dark clouds that obscured the purplish-red sun; the surrounding areas were filled with a dense white fog, so thick one couldn’t see their own hands.

Even the instigator, Super Sensitive Yak, was affected. She tumbled through the air like a drifting fallen leaf. Flames roiled across her body as the turbulent airflow tore her fluffy dress into pieces.

After a good while, the rumbling of the dark clouds dissipated, and with no fuel left to burn, the flames finally extinguished. Super Sensitive Yak then managed to stand up.

Large patches of her pale skin were exposed, covered with fine cuts oozing beads of blood. But apart from that, she was largely unharmed.

The fog lingered on, and as she was tasked with retrieving the “Autumn Yak” gene, her only concern at the moment was what excuse she’d give upon return.

“The samples were destroyed, and the person dead. Iron Lady was right, that man was formidable; if we hadn’t done it this way, I might not have made it back myself.”

That should be enough to get by, right…?

She felt a sense of unease within her.

A tall and lean figure emerged from the mist, fists clenched, with steam rising from his forehead.

Li Yan’s face was flushed, sweat stood out on his forehead, yet he was nearly unscathed.

“How is this possible?”

Super Sensitive Yak exclaimed in disbelief.
