Chapter 300 -26: The Bombing Begins (5)
It was the fifth hour after the radio had declared the annihilation of the Kuang Zhuoma core armored force that had set out for Great Demon Lake.
Dawn was breaking, and a wooden sign carved with a rose and a revolver swayed in the wind. Lights were on in the crooked renovated building, marking yet another sleepless night for Afafu.
Drip~
At the edge of the tap, a full droplet slowly fell, and the air was filled with the pungent smell of disinfectant.
Bang!
The half-worn wooden door trembled, and the dim light bulb swayed back and forth, casting countless dust particles dancing in the beam of light.
“Open the door!”
A vagabond was furiously kicking the wood door in front of him. His body swayed back and forth, his eyes were bloodshot, and saliva gleamed on his gums as he cursed in a frenzy.
“You’re looking down on me, aren’t you? You think I can’t afford the price? Clearing stock, damn it!”
Afafu leaned her back against the creaking door, the aluminum lock loosened, taking large chunks of the wall with it.
She sat with her knees together, covering her infant’s ears. Her long, soft hair hung down to the floor. Luo Bu, cradled in her arms, played with a wooden knife his mother had carved, his bright eyes darting about curiously.
“Damn it, open the door, open the damn door!”
Afafu ignored him, just pursing her lips, staring blankly ahead.
“What are you looking at, scram!”
Suddenly, a dull thud came from outside the door, followed by a short grunt and the sound of a heavy object hitting the ground.
It took quite a while before there was any movement outside the door again.
“Open up.”
It was Wei Dan’s voice.
Afafu’s fingers twitched. She first rubbed her face, and after a long while, she got up and gradually pulled the wooden door open.
As expected, outside stood Wei Dan with her delicate features and an earring adorning her ear.
“This son of a bitch is probably high, even dares to yell at me.”
Wei Dan glanced at the wasted vagabond lying unconscious on the ground.
Afafu unconsciously sighed in relief, “You’ve been a great help these past few days.”
She was taller than Wei Dan, but next to this cool girl, skilled in firearms with a neatly cropped head, Afafu didn’t radiate as much presence.
“No problem.”
Wei Dan walked in nonchalantly, two large-caliber revolvers tucked at her waist. She reached out, pulled one out, and handed it to Afafu, “You’re one of the Black Star Battle Car’s crew, you ought to know how to shoot. Next time someone dares to bother you at your door, just press the barrel against their head and look fierce. Works every time.”
Afafu pushed away Luo Bu’s reaching hand and took the gun uneasily.
“I really wouldn’t know what to do without you.”
“It’s the least I can do. Not everyone downstairs knows their limits, but I can’t let anything happen to a Black Star member on our turf.”
Wei Dan exchanged looks with Luo Bu embraced in Afafu’s arms before looking up to respond, “Our location is a bit out of the way, you don’t have to worry about Medicine Buddha’s people.”
Wei Dan seemed to recall something abruptly and broke into a smile, “My mom brought me here originally, and then I just stayed. Actually, if the Black Star Battle Car folks can’t make a comeback, you and this little one staying here wouldn’t be too bad. And there’s that guy…”
Afafu shook her head, “The Black Star Battle Car won’t just let it go like that.”
“As you wish, but honestly, to think that Black Star, once claimed to be one of the three great powers of this cold winter, is now being chased and beaten by Medicine Buddha’s crew in district B, it is indeed quite embarrassing.”
Wei Dan folded her arms as a sudden burst of intense noise erupted upstairs. At first, Wei Dan didn’t pay much attention, thinking it was just another hothead in some corner starting a fight—regular amusement and one of the few entertainments for the crooked building’s tenants. But as the racket didn’t subside but instead grew louder,
Wei Dan was growing impatient. She flung open the window and fired two shots into the sky, startling away the gray-shelled beetles that were constructing a nest on the windowsill.
“What’s all this racket?”
Wei Dan stuck her head out the window and cursed loudly.
“Wei Dan, come upstairs, there’s been trouble with Yi!”
Wei Dan’s pupils contracted as she cursed and lifted her foot to head out. When Afafu heard this, her complexion turned deathly pale. If Yin Xiong was in trouble, then it was likely that Li Yan was in a bad spot as well. Clutching Luo Bu tightly, she hurriedly followed Wei Dan upstairs.
On the third floor, the tables were pushed together, and the room buzzed with people and discussions.
“That’s all I heard. Your people from Kuang Zhuoma… they must have been completely wiped out.”
The speaker was a third-tier “Steel Skull,” one of the ten Wilderness Hunters entrusted by Kuang Zhuoma. Dusty and weary, his trouser hems were covered with dried bloodstains.
Afafu paid no attention to the other gazes and asked anxiously, “And the other mercenary hunters like you?”
“I’m not sure about that. If they were skillful enough, then there shouldn’t be a problem,” the Hunter said as he clutched the cup tightly, his voice subdued.

“What do you mean by that sly tone of yours?”
A second-tier Wanderer from Kuang Zhuoma took offense.
“Literally what I said. I’ve completed half my task; how are we settling this?”
The Hunter responded confrontationally.
Wei Dan raised her hand to stop the Wanderer: “First, let’s inform headquarters.”
As soon as he had spoken, the bandaged old man who had been intimidated by Li Yan hurried over.
“There’s a call from headquarters.”
…
“Yin Xiong wouldn’t die so easily. I think this Wilderness Hunter deserted in the face of the enemy and is lying to escape responsibility. He’s right here with me; we won’t let him go for the time being. What do the higher-ups say?”
Wei Dan, holding the phone receiver, paced back and forth with a frosty expression. The sweat in his palms betrayed that he wasn’t as calm as he appeared on the surface.
The other end of the phone was silent, listening until Wei Dan had finished, then let out a long sigh.
“I understand… but none of this is important anymore. The reason I called was to inform you of something else,” said the voice from the phone calmly, with a hint of resignation that was hard to notice.
Wei Dan could hardly believe his ears: “Not important? Do you even know what you’re talking about?”
The team dispatched by Kuang Zhuoma, aside from the elite from headquarters, also included most of the leading vanguards from local shelters. If all these people were killed, it would shake Kuang Zhuoma’s position in zone B.
The voice on the phone remained composed, even somewhat dispirited: “Wei Dan, listen to me, what I’m about to say is very important. You have about ten minutes before ‘they’ arrive,” the voice insisted.
“They, who?”
Wei Dan’s tone was full of indifference.
The person on the phone seemed to completely ignore Wei Dan’s query and kept speaking, “Do not engage in any conflict with ‘them.’ Sort all lethal weapons by category and pile them in a conspicuous place. Also, hand over all information related to Great Demon Lake that Yin Xiong didn’t take with him, to them.”
“Disarm? Have you fucking lost your mind?”
Shit, piss, and fart, indeed the indisputable choice for emotional release.
“I’ll emphasize one more time: Do not engage in any conflict with ‘them.’ Also, prepare a list of all personnel in your base who are followers of ‘Medicine Buddha’ and hand it over. Then let those on the list… flee for their lives,” said the man, his voice strained with difficulty.
