Becoming The Villain Is My Dream-Chapter 47: Death And Rebirth
Alex felt like stabbing himself in the throat. He still couldn’t bring himself to believe Damon, but his uncle decided to show him a hand-drawn image of Arthur. The moment Alex saw it, his world came crashing down — he could no longer run from the truth.
"Why... why did he kill my parents and then offer to help me? Tell me!" Alex shouted, clutching his chest. A raw pain tore through him — was this what Atticus meant when he talked about regret? He had said Alex would be able to handle it, but look at him now...
"The ancient bloodline that was passed down to you by your mother," Damon said quietly. "That’s what he’s after."
"W-what?" Alex stammered. He remembered the day he met Arthur — how could someone he’d just met know about the bloodline? "So that’s it..." he mumbled, lowering his head. All this time, the man he thought was a friend, a savior, was actually the devil behind his suffering.
"As far as I know, he’s already weak. Killing him wouldn’t be hard," Damon continued. "But the problem is that he’s inside your soul. The only way to kill him is to kill yourself. Once you die, he’ll emerge — and then I’ll destroy him myself." He paused, eyes heavy with pain. "But... I don’t want to lose another family member."
The day Damon’s older brother and his family were slaughtered, his world collapsed. When he learned that Arthur had taken his form to carry out the massacre, he’d wanted to die — but not before exacting revenge. When word spread that the demon was dying, Damon had searched desperately for him. Only days ago did he uncover the bitter truth — Alex had become Arthur’s vessel. The only way to kill Arthur was to kill Alex. But how could he raise his hand against the last blood of his family?
"Forget about me and focus on the mission," Alex said flatly. "Arthur must be killed."
Damon’s breath trembled. Alex was no longer crying — he’d stood up, fire and fury replacing his tears. His gaze burned with resolve.
"I-I don’t want to kill you," Damon whispered. "You’re the only family I have left. Please..."
"There’s no need to beg me. I’ve already decided," Alex replied, turning toward the door. "But before that... I need some time alone."
He left the room and returned to where Lilith was resting. She was already awake.
"Master," she called softly. "I’m sorry."
"Sorry? What for?" Alex asked.
"I tried to harm the girl who saved me. My act is unforgivable," she said, eyes cast downward.
"I’m sure they understand it wasn’t your fault," Alex said gently. "She’s awake now. I’ll take you to see her later — but right now, I want to be alone."
Lilith tilted her head. There was something wrong with him — his voice, his eyes, his entire presence felt... hollow.
"Master, what’s the matter?" she asked worriedly.
"I said leave me alone. Go out," Alex said sharply.
"But Mast—"
"I said get lost!" he roared.
Lilith froze. It was the first time he’d ever shouted at her. His eyes, once full of warmth, now glared at her with an emptiness that made her chest ache.
"Leave," he said again, quieter this time. "Don’t make me repeat myself."
"O-okay..." she whispered, and left the room in silence.
When she was gone, Alex sighed and walked toward the closed window. His reflection stared back — empty, hollow, unrecognizable. He’d been deceived, manipulated, turned into something he never wanted to become. He pressed a trembling hand to his face. What was he thinking when he agreed to become a demon’s vessel? Out of foolishness and vengeance, he’d made the worst mistake of his life.
How would his parents feel if they could see him now?
"Argh!" he groaned, yanking at his hair. "What a fool!" he spat bitterly. He slammed his fist into the window, shattering it into countless shards. He knelt, picked up a long jagged piece, and stared at it. "I brought this upon myself," he whispered. "And I’ll end it myself."
Without hesitation, he drove the shard into his chest.
A guttural grunt escaped him as pain flooded his body. As he fell to his knees, memories flashed before his fading eyes — the laughter of his family, their deaths, Arthur’s smile, everything replaying like a cruel film. His blood soaked the floor, his breath grew shallow, his vision dimmed.
"It took you this long to realize?" a familiar voice whispered.
Alex turned weakly. Arthur stood before him.
Seeing him, Alex tried to move, but he was too weak, his body refused to respond.
"Honestly," Arthur sighed, "I wish it had taken you longer. Perhaps until the day I killed you myself and claimed the ancient bloodline."
"Why... why did you deceive me?" Alex rasped.
"You’re dying, and that’s what you want to know?" Arthur smirked.
"It wouldn’t hurt... humor my dying wish," Alex said faintly, a small grin flickering on his pale face.
Arthur tilted his head, then sighed. "Very well. Since you’re about to die, I’ll indulge you. I killed your parents, made you hate your uncle, and led you to become my vessel. Every move I made was for one purpose... To obtain the ancient bloodline. I planned to make you stronger, wait until you awakened it, then kill you and absorb your soul. Too bad you found out early. My only mistake was not killing Damon right after your parents."
"Is that so?" Alex murmured. His gaze blazed even as his life slipped away. "It’s a pity I won’t live long... but at least I know the truth. Even if I don’t kill you myself, I know someone will."
Arthur chuckled darkly. He’d lost his grand plan, but part of his desire had been fulfilled. Yet when Alex spoke again, his words made him pause.
"I noticed you’ve become... more human," Alex said weakly. "What? Did you enjoy draining my demon energy to heal yourself?"
Arthur’s eyes widened. "H-how did you—"
Alex tried to laugh but instead coughed up a mouthful of blood. He didn’t answer, which only made Arthur’s fury spike.
"Tell me!" Arthur shouted.
"I... have nothing to say to you," Alex whispered.
Arthur sneered. "Very well. Since it’s just the two of us, I’ll watch you die and then I’ll take your soul."
He drew in a breath and cast a spell, sealing the room. Now, no one could interfere.
"You won’t succeed," Alex muttered, collapsing onto the floor. Blood pooled beneath him, his body trembling. His breaths grew slower, fainter. He smiled weakly as visions of his parents appeared before him — their faces warm and gentle. "Mom... Dad..." he whispered. "I’m coming." His eyes closed, and he went still.
Arthur’s grin widened. He knelt beside Alex’s body and placed a hand on his forehead. Just then, Damon, Lilith, and Mikasa burst into the room.
"Where is he? Didn’t you say you left him here?" Damon demanded.
Lilith clutched her chest, eyes filling with tears. "Master... Master has stopped breathing," she sobbed, collapsing to her knees.
"Tell me you’re joking!" Damon barked, but she didn’t respond. Her silence confirmed it. "Where is he? Can you feel him?" 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"I can’t see him... but I know he’s here," she whispered.
"We can’t see him," Damon said grimly. "The demon must have separated from him. He’s got Alex’s soul trapped. What can we do?"
Arthur scoffed, amused by their despair. "Stupid humans. What can you possibly do?" he said, ignoring them. "I’ll absorb your soul, boy... and awaken the bloodline." He laughed, placing his palm above Alex’s forehead. A crimson glow emerged, floating above Alex’s skin. "Yes... it’s working!" Arthur exclaimed. "Soon, your soul will be mine!"
But as he focused, something changed. The red light flickered, morphing into a swirl of purple, red, and black smoke. It spread rapidly, devouring his energy.
Arthur’s eyes flew open. "What’s happening?!" he gasped. He tried to pull his hand away, but it wouldn’t budge. He could only watch as Alex’s body was engulfed by the strange light.
The glow turned into arcs of lightning that crawled across Alex’s skin, racing down his neck, his arms, even his hair shifted, bleaching into pure white.
Arthur’s face twisted in horror. "Such power... could this be...?" His voice trailed off as panic consumed him.
He tried to counter by summoning his own energy — red light flared around him. "I won’t let you succeed!" he shouted and lunged forward. But before he could reach Alex, an unseen force hurled him across the room. The barrier shattered, and suddenly Damon and the others could see everything.
Lilith tried to rush to Alex, but Damon grabbed her arm. "Don’t! It’s too dangerous!"
"But look! That demon, he’s trying to hurt him!" she cried, struggling.
"We can’t do anything," Damon said grimly. "Just watch."
Reluctantly, she stopped fighting and turned her gaze back to the battle. Arthur rose from the floor and charged again, only to be thrown back by another invisible strike. He tried a third time, forcing his way through. This time, he wasn’t repelled, and for a brief moment, he thought he’d broken through. He swung his hand toward Alex —
But Alex’s eyes snapped open.
He caught Arthur’s wrist effortlessly.
"What—?!" Arthur gasped, trying to pull away, but Alex’s grip tightened like iron. "Let go—"
His words ended abruptly. His body began to dry and crumble, his energy drained in an instant.
