Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Pearl Academy

The day of departure arrived. To avoid incurring the wrath of the Female Wolf King, Luke instructed Wolf Lord to explain his absence as a necessary journey for self-improvement. This not only placated the Female Wolf King but also ensured she might even protect his clan in his absence.

Under the morning sun, the group prepared to leave. Tanya’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears.

"Luke, promise me you’ll visit Arcadia when you can," she said, pouting slightly.

"Sister Tanya, we’ll only be apart for a little while. Don’t be sad," Chloe said, hugging her.

Tanya and Chloe had gone from teacher and student to close companions, their bond strengthened by their shared experiences.

Luke pinched Tanya’s cheek playfully, offering a few words of comfort. "Alright, let’s go. Next stop, Silvercrest City!"

In the Blue Wolf Valley, the wolves howled a mournful farewell. Wolf Lord sighed, muttering to himself as he resumed teaching the younger wolves.

Demon Capital

Pearl Academy

There were still more than two months left before the beginning of the school term, and Pearl Academy was already bustling with activity.

Short skirts, small suspenders, black and white stockings—everywhere was filled with the lively air of youth. From bubbly freshmen to experienced seniors, the vibrant campus painted a mesmerizing picture.

Luke’s head moved like a swivel, eagerly absorbing the sights around him. Having spent an entire year in the wilderness, the sight of bustling human life was an overwhelming sensory overload.

"System, why so silent now?" Luke muttered. "This is the best generation of eighteen-year-old girls in the country! Have some vision!"

Marissa Jones glared at Luke angrily, her eyes full of reproach. Wasn’t it obvious that the "school flower" was right next to him? Yet his attention was on everyone else.

"It’s been too long," Luke muttered, a smirk tugging at his lips. "The mountains were great, but this... this is paradise."

Beside him, Marissa Jones rolled her eyes in exasperation. "Could you try to act your age? You’re embarrassing me."

Luke paid no attention, continuing to shamelessly admire the students around him. His nonchalance earned a few glares from passing male students, clearly envious that such a captivating school beauty was walking beside him.

"Marissa, who is this clueless guy you’ve brought along?" A sneering voice interrupted them.

Marissa turned to see Mason Jones, her cousin, standing with his arms crossed, a contemptuous smirk plastered across his face. His gaze shifted to Luke, radiating disdain.

"Shut it, Mason," Marissa snapped. "Don’t make trouble where none exists."

Mason’s grin widened. "Trouble? He looks like a country bumpkin who doesn’t even know how to behave in the Demon Capital. Honestly, it’s a wonder you’re even associating with him."

Luke barely spared Mason a glance. "You talk too much."

Before anyone could process what had happened, Mason’s body flew several feet into the air and landed unceremoniously on the ground. A groan of pain escaped his lips as he tried to comprehend the sudden attack.

"Mind control," Luke muttered casually, dusting off his hands.

"You... you dare..." Mason stammered, rage and humiliation painting his face crimson. His servants scrambled to help him to his feet.

"Young Master Mason, we’ll remember this!" one of the servants barked before escorting Mason away.

Marissa sighed. "That could have gone better."

"It’s fine," Luke replied. "They’re not worth my time."

Zoe Miller smirked. "That was quite the statement, Luke. I think I’m starting to like you."

Marissa sighed again, glancing at Luke. "Luke, do you really need to go through with this whole special enrollment thing? With my family’s influence, I could have easily gotten you and Zoe admitted without all this trouble."

Luke raised an eyebrow. "Do you even know what special enrollment entails?"

"Of course," Marissa replied. "It’s for candidates with special abilities. You’re basically guaranteed admission if you excel in certain areas—like curses, summoning, or space magic."

Luke shook his head. "That’s not the point. Do you think I came to Pearl Academy to study?"

Marissa froze for a moment before realization dawned on her. "You... you’re here for..." She trailed off, glancing at Zoe, who was smirking knowingly.

"Exactly," Luke said with a grin. "Now let’s move. We’re running late."

The special enrollment examination was held in the main building of Pearl Academy. The towering structure was both grand and imposing, a testament to the institution’s prestige.

As they arrived, a bespectacled professor greeted Marissa with a warm smile. "Ah, Miss Jones, it’s good to see you. Please, take a seat."

"Thank you, Professor," Marissa replied politely. "These are the candidates I spoke to you about—Luke and Zoe."

The professor’s gaze shifted to Luke and Zoe. "Well, let’s get started," he said. "Luke, you first. Show us your star alignment."

Luke stepped forward confidently, raising his hand. One by one, dark stars began to appear, each radiating an eerie glow.

"A curse mage," the professor muttered, his interest piqued. "Seven stars already at this level. Impressive."

However, before the professor could say more, an eighth star emerged, glowing even brighter than the others.

"Eight stars?!" the professor exclaimed, nearly leaping from his seat.

The other examiners, who had been watching with mild interest, were now wide-eyed with shock. Even the bald examiner, who had been skeptical of Luke, was left speechless.

Luke lowered his hand, a smug grin on his face. "Well? Am I qualified?"

The professor’s face broke into a wide smile. "Qualified? You’re more than qualified, young man. Welcome to Pearl Academy."

Next, it was Zoe’s turn. Though her demonstration wasn’t as explosive as Luke’s, her mastery of healing magic and her rare ability as an apothecary left the examiners deeply impressed. It was clear she would be a valuable addition to the academy.

With both candidates successfully admitted, the group left the examination hall. Marissa couldn’t help but feel a swell of pride as she looked at Luke and Zoe.

"Well done," she said with a smile. "I knew you two wouldn’t disappoint." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"Thanks," Luke replied. "Now, what’s next on the agenda?"
