Became a Demon with Pregnancy System-Chapter 45: The Affair
Her stare lingered on Luke.
"Who are you?" She whispered faintly.
Responding as if he heard her silent question, Luke turned to her and smirked.
"Take a deep breath," he said simply.
Marissa watched, stunned, as Luke started to change right before her eyes.
Four black wings sprang forth from behind him, dark feathers glimmering. His frame increased, massive, as flames shot forth from his chest, exuding majesty and power.
The Lone Star Wolf.
Marissa’s eyes widened, and her mind barely grasped what was going on.
At a distance, Tanya Reed and Zoe Miller watched from the safety of their little camp.
"Poor girl," Tanya murmured as she shook her head.
"Luke’s much too blunt," Zoe noted, nodding.
"Nothing to let the poor girls absorb," Tanya sympathized.
The two shared a knowing glance before turning back to observe the scene in silence.
"Hey, Uncle, it’s me, Marissa."
"Yes, I’m fine now. The poison’s been cured."
"I still have two months before school resumes, and I’d like to continue my training during this time. Don’t worry about me."
"No, you don’t need to look for me. You won’t find me anyway. I’ll return to school on time at the start of the semester."
Marissa Jones ended the call with a sharp click, clutching her chest as if trying to calm her racing heart.
It was the first time she had lied to her family.
"Luke, remember, I’ll return home when school begins," she said, handing the phone back to him.
"Yes, got it," Luke replied, his eyes sparkling mischievously as he met Marissa’s nervous gaze.
Over the past half-month, Marissa had finally begun to accept the truth about Luke’s transformation from a demon to a human and back. She also realized why he had insisted she take a good look at the valley and its "scenery" before making any decisions.
She had no choice at all.
Everything could be negotiated—except for the children.
Tanya and Zoe had been relentless in persuading her, and eventually, she had given in. Now, under the shade of Blue Wolf Valley, three women in grass skirts surrounded Luke, occasionally feeding him grapes. Two of them already showed slight bulges in their lower abdomens.
"Do all totems have this ability?" Marissa asked, peeling a longan and placing it into Luke’s mouth.
Luke chuckled. "No, just me."
"Oh, that makes sense," Marissa nodded, thinking how chaotic the human world would be if all totems had such a gift.
"By the way, Luke," she hesitated for a moment before puffing up her chest slightly. "Have you seen a girl? She’s... huge."
Luke raised an eyebrow, clearly puzzled by the abrupt question.
"I mean Tina. Have you seen her?" Marissa clarified, a hint of concern in her voice.
Luke thought back to the time of the Volcanic Poison Wolf’s attack. "You mean Tina Baine? Yes, I saw her back then."
"You did? What happened to her?" Marissa leaned forward, her relief evident.
"When I saved you, she was being pursued by the Inferno Wolves. I couldn’t look for her then, and later she likely encountered the human military," Luke explained.
"So... you saved both of us," Marissa murmured, her expression softening as she reflected on the strange twists of fate.
"All right, you’ve been fed enough. It’s time to work," Luke said, scratching his head awkwardly.
"Work? Again? Isn’t this too frequent?" Marissa protested, her face flushing.
"Didn’t you know? There’s a saying: time is life. It means time should be used to create life," Luke quipped, his tone filled with mock wisdom.
Before Marissa could respond, Luke scooped her up and carried her to a sunny spot where the yang energy was most abundant.
Under the blazing sun, their shadows fused into one. By the time the sun dipped below the horizon, those shadows separated once more.
On a quiet night, a powerful howl echoed from the peak of Blue Wolf Valley.
Luke immediately recognized the monarch-level aura accompanying it. His sharp instincts told him there was no malice behind the sound, but its familiarity unsettled him.
A massive white wolf, its fur gleaming under the moonlight, stood majestically on the peak.
Through his demon wolf perspective, Luke admired the beauty of the Female Wolf King, her pristine fur glistening with an ethereal glow. But as a human, his reaction was far less poetic—his eyelids twitched uncontrollably.
The Male Wolf King was dead, and the Female Wolf King was now without a partner. It was natural for her to seek a mate—and Luke seemed to be on her shortlist of candidates.
"Whew~~~!!"
The Female Wolf King let out a melodic howl, devoid of any aggression but filled with longing. None of the surrounding demons dared approach her.
Luke rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.
"This is bad..."
Reluctantly, he left his cave, transforming into his Skywing Wolf form as he stepped into the moonlight. He deliberately avoided his more majestic forms, hoping to downplay his appeal.
The Female Wolf King’s eyes lit up when she saw him, and she roared happily, striding over to him. Her actions were unmistakably affectionate, her massive head brushing against his wings.
Every hair on Luke’s body stood on end.
"Whew!!"
Luke quickly roared back, signaling his refusal.
The Female Wolf King paused, tilting her head in confusion.
Desperate, Luke roared again, this time explaining his reasoning. He told her that his current form was too weak—merely at the commander level. Any offspring they produced would lack the strength required of a monarch’s descendants.
The Female Wolf King hesitated, her pride as a monarch making her reluctant to compromise her bloodline. Luke seized the moment to elaborate, claiming that his form was merely a temporary transformation, limiting his ability to bear offspring.
To sweeten his rejection, he praised her beauty and power, calling her the epitome of a monarch.
The Female Wolf King’s gaze softened. She gave a final low roar, full of tenderness, before leaping gracefully out of the valley and vanishing into the night.
