Became a Demon with Pregnancy System-Chapter 34 - 33: Monster’s Civil War
"Caden Carter, is your South Division fed on bull manure or what?!"
"A mere Snowpeak Mountain Station has fallen twice now! The first time, you blamed a sudden attack by the Skywing Wolf—fine. But what’s your excuse this time?!"
"And most importantly, my niece has only been training there for two months and already ran into danger. Is this how your South Division protects people?!"
High above the Snowpeak Mountains, a bearded man’s brows were furrowed into a fierce scowl as he berated the uniformed officer before him.
Behind the officer stood Chloe Carter, her head lowered in discomfort. In the entire South Division, aside from her Uncle Harold Carter, no one would dare speak to Caden Carter this way. Yet now, due to her own oversight, even her cousin—one who had always shown her great care—had to endure such abuse.
The one hurling insults was Morgan Jones, the paternal uncle of Marissa Jones and also Caden Carter’s old friend from university.
"Morgan Jones, if you’re done venting, shut your mouth."
"Didn’t you hear Chloe say they were captured, not killed outright?"
"If that’s the case, then the Volcanic Poison Wolf didn’t intend to kill Marissa just yet. That means Marissa Jones could still be alive."
"But if you keep wasting time here ranting and that delay leads to her death, don’t you dare blame the South Division later."
Caden Carter’s expression remained grave, his composure unmoved by Morgan’s anger.
"You mean... Marissa might still be alive?" Morgan Jones, having been too upset to think clearly before, now realized there might still be hope.
"Chloe mentioned Marissa Jones was personally seized by the Volcanic Poison Wolf. In fact, Tina Baine was also targeted, but she was rescued by a young man named Luke. So the Inferno Wolves clearly aimed for both Marissa Jones and Tina Baine. Such a calculated move is not mere wanton slaughter."
"Those beasts must have some scheme," Caden said evenly, cutting straight to the core of the matter with just a few words.
Yet thinking more deeply, something seemed off. While there were cunning creatures among the monsters, the Inferno Wolves had never been known for intricate plots—unless they were simply hired muscle, with another, more devious entity pulling the strings.
"I don’t care what they’re scheming. If Marissa might still be alive, I’m going to rescue her!" Morgan Jones had no interest in Caden’s analysis. With a curt nod to the two men beside him, he charged off in the direction where the Volcanic Poison Wolf had fled.
If he failed to intercept it along the way, Morgan Jones wouldn’t hesitate to venture into the Inferno Wolves’ lair and erase those damned creatures from the bestiaries of Southridge.
"Caden, aren’t we going after him?" Chloe Carter asked.
This disaster had started with her. Doing nothing would weigh heavily on her conscience. Moreover, the deeper one went into Southridge, the more dangerous it became. Even an Ultra-level mage like Morgan Jones wasn’t absolutely safe.
"Of course we’ll follow, but not just us. We need to rally every bit of strength we have," Caden Carter replied firmly.
"Uncle Harold Carter recently sent word: Southridge is in chaos. The major monster clans are fighting each other. Some clans have even been wiped out."
"That’s extremely unusual—but for us, it’s a golden opportunity to eliminate a large number of these creatures."
"While they fight like mussels and clams, we’ll play the fisherman, ready to hook some big catches."
Caden Carter revealed a shocking piece of news: the monsters of Southridge had plunged into a civil war!
Conflicts between monster clans weren’t rare, but for so many to erupt simultaneously suggested something sinister at play.
"Still, something’s not right, Caden," Chloe said, pausing to think. "What about the Female Wolf King that dominates Southridge? With all this happening, how can she not appear?"
"Uncle Harold Carter didn’t say. Maybe she’s injured and hiding," Caden speculated. "If we’re lucky, we might join forces with Morgan Jones and the other Ultra-level mages from the Jones family to bring down that alpha-level creature."
Excitement glimmered in Caden Carter’s eyes. The monsters of Southridge had caused endless trouble for the southern borders. If they could take advantage of this chaos to slay a few monarch-level beasts, it would greatly relieve the pressure on the South Division.
True, new tyrants might rise in a few years, but that grace period would allow the South Division time to train new elites.
Chloe Carter lowered her head. Something about the entire scenario felt off, but she couldn’t pinpoint any direct harm to their cause. Without a clearer reason to hesitate, she nodded.
"Alright, I’ll go rally the nearby divisions so we can strike back against the monsters of Southridge."
