Chapter 466: Chapter 240: The Big One Is Coming (Part 2)

Without surprise, the two are bound to encounter surprises.

As the two acquired a new target location and left the Hymn Building, Wu Chang controlled the shadows and, in passing, went underground to explore.

Entering the first secret door was very smooth. Following the passage where the transport vehicles operated, he walked to the end. When he tried to pass through the second secret door, he encountered trouble.

The second secret door was imbued with divinity, and his inspiration told him that unless accessed through an Identity Card normally, whether breaking in or sneaking in, this divinity would detect it immediately.

If Fei Guang and Chiba were to enter unprepared, they would likely be discovered instantly.

Wu Chang stood up, walked to the office’s floor-to-ceiling window, and looked down. About two thousand meters away from the Hymn Company, there stood a massive plaza, underneath which was where the Zhou brothers were transformed into Essence Armor, the very site that Fei Guang and Chiba were targeting.

From this vantage point, he could take in everything happening on the plaza.

He wondered if, when Fei Guang and Chiba clashed with the Hymn Company, it would be visible from here.

As night fell, Raymond, having done a simple disguise, arrived by the small river outside Danube Street to meet as agreed.

He arrived an hour early but found that the target was already seated on the designated bench.

The contact person made no attempt at disguise. Raymond had scrutinized that face nearly a hundred times in recent days; it was Mo Ke, the head of the Hymn Company’s Security Department and former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

To prevent vagrants from using the bench as a bed, occupying the surrounding area, a steel pipe was welded down the middle of the bench, dividing it into two halves.

Raymond sat on the other side, looked at the lake, and asked calmly:

"What went wrong, why was the meeting time moved up?"

Mo Ke said: "Schultz decided to hold a press conference on short notice; time is tight. I have too many preparations to make, and if it were any later, I wouldn’t be able to slip away."

Raymond frowned and asked: "Is holding the Essence Armor conference Schultz’s spur-of-the-moment decision?"

Mo Ke didn’t answer Raymond’s question and said: "I’m not here to help you steal company secrets; let’s talk about what you’ve seen."

Raymond looked a bit displeased, and he slightly clenched his hand on his knee, creasing the fabric of his pants.

"Everything I had to say is in the report. A few days ago, when I was preparing to infiltrate the home of the finance department’s supervisor based on bureau leads, I saw two groups of mysterious men clashing, one of whom released a Disqualified Monster."

"I suspect they are capturing Disqualified Monsters to use them as weapons, so I’ve been monitoring them constantly. I guessed they would take action against the Disqualified Monsters again, so I’ve been stationed on high vantage points in the city, and last night, my guess proved correct."

Hearing Raymond mention capturing Disqualified Monsters as weapons, Mo Ke gave Raymond an extra glance, saw that Raymond showed no extra expression, and then looked away again.

Mo Ke asked: "Any missing intel?"

Raymond said: "If we have to say something, that group capturing Disqualified Monsters has a lot of people, and there’s one woman—keep an eye on capable women."

Mo Ke calmly said: "I’m already watching them. Any other intel?"

Raymond shook his head, "That’s all for now. If you need anything, I can help. No matter what they plan with capturing Disqualified Monsters, I must stop them!"

Mo Ke was silent for a moment, then suddenly asked: "You’re from Sid Town, aren’t you?"

Raymond: "Yes, that’s why I’m investigating Hymn."

Mo Ke: "Found anything?"

Raymond shook his head, "Not yet, but if you really did something, I’ll find it one day."

Mo Ke smiled, looked at Raymond, and said: "You remind me of my younger self. If you help me capture the Hymn Hunter, I’ll tell you who was responsible for Sid Town back then."

Raymond’s eyes widened, and he stood up suddenly, his voice anxious, "You know who?!"

Mo Ke did not answer and slowly said: "Maybe I do, maybe I don’t; that’s my business. You don’t need to worry. We all have our jobs; we should do our work first before concerning ourselves with others’ affairs."

Raymond fixedly stared at Mo Ke. A moment later, he snorted coldly, "You’ll know the result."

After speaking, Raymond turned and left.

After Raymond left, Mo Ke sat by the riverside for another ten minutes until a black sedan approached. Only then did he get up and enter the car.

The vehicle drove smoothly toward the Hymn Building, entering the Hymn Building’s garage.

Mo Ke exited from the inside and took the elevator back up to the office.

Five minutes later, a sports car entered the garage, and a fashionably dressed young man stepped out, entering the elevator.

During the elevator ride up, he peeled off the simulated skin covering his face, poured out a special makeup remover, scrubbed away the cosmetics, removed the wig, and took off his jacket.

By the time he exited the elevator, the young man had reverted to Mo Ke’s original appearance.

As he walked to the office, the secretary at the door instinctively greeted him, saying, "Mr. Mo Ke."

After the greeting, the secretary realized something was wrong and hurriedly stopped Mo Ke, placing a hand on the alarm button, and asked:

"Didn’t you just enter the office?"

The button on Mo Ke’s chest blinked, and he said, "You’re mistaken."

The secretary nodded dazedly, removed her hand from the alarm, and apologized, "Sorry."

Mo Ke entered the office, looked at the other self inside, and showed a look of contemplation.

That Raymond seemed reliable.

Elsewhere, Raymond circled Danube Street a few times. Ensured he wasn’t being followed, and then returned to the Bear Gang.

The leading gang of Danube Street had now occupied a new nest, and the former Bear Gang leader had become Veronica’s subordinate, while the gang leader’s office had become an operational base for a few people.

Raymond pushed the door and entered the base, asking Wu Chang and the others: "How did I do?"

Wu Chang said: "The last part was a bit overacted, but the overall emotional transition was smooth. I’d give it a 95."

Booker was doing dumbbell curls; he didn’t even lift his head and said: "I think it deserves a perfect score."

Veronica said: "I just went to confirm, and the Mo Ke you met doesn’t show any abnormalities within his body; his energy balance is perfect, his life force feels rich, with no trace of illness."

Colton followed Veronica’s words and said: "But it’s precisely this normality that makes him abnormal. According to records from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, even with Hymn Company’s black technology, it’s impossible to cure his heart condition so thoroughly."

"Which means it’s a counterfeit."

Upon hearing Colton’s conclusion, Wu Chang displayed a hint of a smile.

That was just the method he devised; Colton, possessing hacking skills, wasn’t formidable enough to crack the Hymn Company’s network, but he could easily breach the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s firewall.

Through the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s files, they quickly discovered the special heart condition Mo Ke suffered from.

Wu Chang only needed to propose a possibility: might Mo Ke send a double to assess Raymond, and everyone naturally thought of using the heart condition as a breakthrough point to differentiate whether the one who came for the meeting was genuine or fake.

If it was real, they would act immediately; if not, they’d put on a performance to gain Mo Ke’s trust.

Raymond took a deep breath, cursed: "Old fox, really don’t know where he found such a stand-in. That double even perfectly replicated the scar on his forehead and the slight gap in his front tooth. Had you not stopped me, I’d have nearly acted just now."

Wu Chang said: "Anyway, through tonight’s meeting, you should have initially gained Mo Ke’s trust. Next time, he won’t be able to evade."

Raymond nodded and said:

"The Hymn Company’s press conference is set for the day after tomorrow. We’ll act as planned. When the press conference begins, we’ll give the Hymn Company a big surprise!"

Booker dropped the dumbbells he was holding and started to stretch, saying: "Finally, time to move my body."

Colton tapped on the keyboard, sending the information of several selected Hymn Company management members to the group.

The group began preparations excitedly, except Wu Chang, who sensed something was amiss.

Mo Ke mentioned that the press conference was Schultz’s sudden decision, but an Essence Armor press conference would undoubtedly be a significant event for the Hymn Company, with plans starting at least six months in advance.

What could have prompted Schultz to change his decision suddenly?

Moreover, Schultz’s words implied he had already targeted the mysterious group Raymond mentioned, which were the players.

Wu Chang had a premonition, something big was coming.
