Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 170: Uri’s Trial (1)
Jumping through the path with Visha and Xeno, Uri couldn’t help breathing heavily. When Visha had told him that this mission would be life and death, he understood. He had calculated the risks. But calculation and actualization are different.
The plant was to have a rest leading up to fighting. The plan was derailed the moment they started being attacked by plants. There was never a day’s peace.
And when he found out that Sha’min was burning her lifespan to keep them safe. His heart felt as if it had stopped. He wished he could rip it out and give it to her if it helped her recover.
But they couldn’t stop. The only way they could help was to go through the mission and come out successfully.
Now, they had approached the final stretch.
He wasn’t sure if this was the place they needed to be. What he was sure of was that it was the safest. As soon as they entered, he saw the difference. There were animals and plants. This place was full of vibrance. Not the menace he felt from the things that attacked them.
"She will be fine," he said to Xeno. Not only reassuring him but also himself.
The man had wrapped Visha in his arms the moment he knew they were safe. She was unconscious. She used so much of her power that another part of her hair had gone white.
His eyes scanned the surroundings. He needed to ensure that this place was safe for Visha’s recovery. As long as nothing was attacking, they could have a rest. Both he and Xeno waited for something to happen.
They walked around, Xeno carrying Visha in his arms. They were attacked. In fact, he felt they were being avoided. Although he felt this, he never let his guard down.
Then they came upon a building. It was the kind of building one could never ignore. In the snake tribe, there were drawings like this. Of buildings so tall they reached the skies. Whether forgotten memories or something else. He was not sure.
But he was certain of one thing. The snake tribe had a wealth of inheritance and knowledge that they did not easily share with others.
"Let her rest," Uri said, asking Xeno to release Visha.
His red eyes turned to Uri, unwilling to let go.
"You have to put her down at some point," Uri said, amused. He thought he was possessive. But right now, Xeno was being a big baby. "She will be safe."
He ruffled Xeno’s hair. It was filled with twigs and what he could only describe as plant blood. "She is my mate too. I would never do anything to hurt her."
The bond resonated, and Xeno placed Visha gently on the ground.
"Do you think she’ll wake up soon?" Xeno asked, voice hoarse.
Uri’s eyes met his. "I will not lie. I am not sure. I only know she will wake up. All we have to do is wait."
Xeno nodded. Uri took his hand, walking towards the building. Something was pulling him here. Xeno looked back with every step he took. Uri knew he did not want to leave her here.
"She will be fine." He pointed to where they were going. "We can still see her from here. If anything approaches, we will get to her before it can." Then he turned to Xeno. "Nothing here threatens us."
Xeno grunted. Uri smiled. He knew he had accepted. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
They approached the pillars. The pull became stronger the closer he walked. Uri saw that Xeno’s attention was taken by a pillar close to where he felt the pull.
"Do you feel it?" Uri asked.
Xeno’s head snapped to him. "You can feel it too?"
Uri nodded. "It isn’t the mate pull. It’s something else. A resonance in my soul that tells me there is something important here for me."
"I feel the same thing. A powerful pull that’s telling me that if I want to become stronger, there is something I need to do."
Uri and Xeno looked at each other, then at Visha, who was lying on the ground peacefully.
"We need to wait until she wakes up," Xeno said.
"Of course. If I am not wrong, Sha’min might also feel the same pull when she awakens."
Xeno thought about it and nodded. "She might. So we need to be here for it."
As they spoke, they approached the pillars. "The thing calling me is here," Xeno said, pointing.
"Mine is here," Uri responded.
Both beast symbols were close enough that they only needed to take a few steps apart. Both males looked at the beast symbols that were calling them. Their hearts beat faster.
And without their knowledge, they were pulled in to begin their trials.
Uri had only a brief look when he felt himself being pulled. He had no chance to refuse. He felt a rush of lightheadedness. He blinked. Just a moment. Yet he found himself in the middle of the ocean.
How did he know it was an ocean? He had never seen an ocean before, but something told him that’s what this was. Except that this ocean was not blue. It was black.
An endless black sea with nothing as far as the eye could see. There were no clouds. Nothing but the vastness of the ocean and Uri, suspended.
He looked down and found he had transformed. He was no half-shifted. He was now in his complete beast form. A beautiful, emerald and black snake with glimmering scales that appeared both deadly and handsome.
He panicked, wondering how he had gotten here. He tried to shift but was unable to. He could do nothing but wait.
Soon, understanding dawned on him. The symbol. He was looking at it when he was drawn into this place. But why?
He felt the pull, but he had no information. He worried about Visha and whether she would be safe while he was in this place. But with no wait to get out, he could only accept what was coming and hope he would be able to leave soon.
He wondered if the same had happened to Xeno. If it hadn’t, he would feel relieved knowing someone was watching over Visha.
If it had...
