Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 168: A Traitor
Seeing Visha like this, the first to launch an offensive was Uri. He wanted to be calm, but when Visha’s life was at stake, he had to make a quick decision. Based on what he had learned fighting the plants, aiming at the softer parts is the best way to go.
Though they might not break it would at least cause the sensation of pain for the plants. Thus making it easier to control their movements.
He leapt towards the first plant, doing just as he thought. He targeted a soft section of bark that had been stripped from the tree. His claws did not sink in, but there were signs of damage.
This made him smile softly, and he sent a message to Visha and Xeno. He did not trust Alin enough to waste his time telling him anything. He only needed to keep fighting with them. He would pretend he didn’t exist otherwise.
Uri and Xeno did their best to attack the plants surrounding them. Visha would occasionally make a move and go back to rest. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Alin followed their lead. He saw the places they attacked and understood that they must have understood how to hurt or kill the plants. As for how they knew he could only keep this question to himself.
Their precise attacks allowed them to partially open the path. Just as they were about to rejoice, another plant appeared. Similar to the previous venus flytrap, except this was much larger and looked more lethal.
They could see the sap dripping from its mouth. It stalked towards them as though it knew it could dominate them. It did not attack immediately; it waited. Its leaves would move ever so often after seeing them attack, but it never attacked them.
They could not understand what was happening. They couldn’t stop fighting, but they also had to guard against this monster.
One split second was all it took. One second for the fly trap to make a decision.
It did not go towards Uri, Xeno, or even Alin. It made its way to the weakest member. Visha.
Xeno saw it first, "Shasha!" he yelled. He turned to stop, but was intercepted by a large root, whipping him to the side because of his distraction.
The fly trap’s mouth opened, moving unswervingly towards Visha. At this time, Visha moved quickly, adrenaline pumping. She managed to dodge the plant, but she was winded. If it came for her again, she would have no choice but to become plant food.
She attempted to mobilize the rite as she had done many times before. She could feel it, but she was too tired to make anything happen. Her body refused to project the power. She had no way to quickly replenish.
The others were still fighting their own monsters.
Visha and the fly trap were now in a head-to-head competition. The venus was on the offensive, and Visha could only defend. It didn’t come after her immediately each time, as if it needed time to launch itself. When she noticed this, Visha was no longer as worried.
The three men continued to fight. Finally, they were able to open a small passage.
"Shasha, come here. Now." Xeno called Visha quickly. He hoped that Visha would be able to get through the opening, regain some strength, and have the plants stop attacking them.
Visha ran towards the opening. She understood why he called her. There was no need for open communication. Anyone would think the same if they had someone able to control plants.
Well, not everyone, it would appear.
Alin, hearing Xeno call to Visha, noticed she was running towards a gap in the plants. In a moment of selfishness, he did the unforgivable.
The flytrap had been gearing up to attack Visha once again. As soon as she moved, it moved with her. All Visha needed to do was be a little faster than it to pass through the opening.
But Alin thought she was running to safety. Completely forgetting about everything else. He dashed forward, pulling Visha back towards the flytrap and lunging towards the passage himself.
Uri saw it. Not caring whether the plant he was fighting would attack him, he flew forward. His speed and agility were faster than Alin, he was able to get to him before he reached the passage. As soon as he was close enough, he grabbed Alin by the throat and threw him towards the plants.
Xeno, having taken in the scene, became more aggressive. Since Uri had gone to protect Visha, his job was to keep the path open. He continued attacking the soft sections of the plants.
The more he fought, the angrier he became.
From the corner of his eye, he saw Alin, who was tossed away by Uri. He was being held by a plant and struggling to get free. A cruel smile graced Xeno’s lips. He took out a small dagger he had requested from the Stone-horns.
He had never used it before. But now, he would.
With a flick of his wrist, he aimed at Alin. He was not sure he would be able to catch him, but he hoped it would cause injury.
Fate was on Xeno’s side. As he released the dagger, Alin made a move to dodge the plant he was fighting. The dodge ended up being the opportunity the dagger needed to embed itself into Alin’s neck.
Surprised, Alin grabbed the dagger and pulled. A subconscious reaction.
Realizing there was actually a knife in his hand. His head snapped in the direction of the throw. He saw Xeno fighting, grinning widely. He dropped the dagger and held his neck.
His blood spilling caught the attention of other plants and reduced Xeno’s burden.
At the same time, his adrenaline spiked as he saw Visha using the rite to calm the flytrap and was visibly failing. The flytrap slowed down, but was not appeased by the minuscule power she gave.
It still wanted to devour Visha.
Visha, at this time, was using the rite. Her internal organs felt like they were on fire. She knew using the rite this time was catastrophic for her. She would need a long rest to be able to function properly again.
It was then that she felt her body being pulled backwards.
She hadn’t noticed she had been grabbed by Uri. In the moment Uri grabbed her, Xeno had appeared by their side. He was covered in blood. The passage was even wider now. One of the plants had been killed.
Visha’s vision was blurry. She only saw the two males before she closed her eyes.
