Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 146: A wife for Xeno
Since they were unable to make a decision on what they wanted to do. Uri had the pack members escort them to the outskirts of their living space. They would not allow them to stay in the square if they had no interest in being a part of the pack.
Some members were left to look after them while the others went to deal with the day’s regular work. They would not stop their gathering and stockpiling simply because these people were here.
The Cheetah tribe leader spoke with his pack.
"We had not anticipated their reluctance. We thought they would need us since they were asking us to join their pack. It appears we are the ones who need them." The tribe leader spoke with his priest.
The priest chuckled, "We were both wrong. I have been a priest for more than a hundred years, and I have never seen one like the priestess they have. Her bodyweaves with the energy of the land. It is both strange and thought-provoking."
"In my opinion, based solely on their priestess, we should willingly join them. It is only a matter of whether you’re willing to give up your position. The visions I have had suggest the world is about to become chaotic. We need a safe haven. If they have a way, then we should take it."
The tribe leader sighed. "I want to try one thing first. If it works, I will still be the leader. At worst, we can find another way." He gestured to a woman who was sitting not far away.
"Ba," a melodious voice called out. She saluted respectfully.
"Daughter, I want to know if you are willing to take a partner from this tribe. You know the struggles we have faced. They may be able to help us." HE did not force her; he asked her opinion.
His daughter smiled. Although it was covered under her wraps, her eyes shone. "There is one. If he is willing. I would like to partner with him."
The tribe leader smiled.
At the Ram’s camp, Roc was speaking to his peers. Their leader had designated him the temporary leader of this expedition. The people he brought with him were capable.
"The plan is simple," Roc stated. "We need to know about the howl. After we join, we only need to get the information and leave. Not all of us need to stay. We brought so many as a precaution. You can decide who will stay. I will be one of those who stay."
After talking amongst themselves, they came to a conclusion.
The Cheetah tribe leader, the priest, and the leader’s daughter were the first to approach the trio. They had to be escorted by the pack members, or they would not be allowed near the square.
They did not complain; they knew the pack members were there to act as guards.
"Have you decided?" Xeno asked.
"I wish to negotiate." The tribe leader’s eyes swept the three people. "My daughter has taken a fantasy to a member of your pack. Should she partner with this person, it would bring our people together. It would be a benefit to everyone."
"But we don’t want to have two separate entities. What we want is one set of people working together." Xeno responded.
The tribe leader’s brow furrowed. "Wouldn’t this solve everything. You get a strong, fertile female and an alliance with our tribe."
Visha asked, "Who is it that she wants to partner with?"
She had noticed the woman’s eyes were glued to Xeno the moment she entered the caldera. She was fascinated by him.
The Cheetah tribe leader, thinking Visha might be willing to compromise, told them. "She would like to partner with the tribe leader Xeno."
Uri’s eyes turned sharp. Visha blinked rapidly when she saw Uri’s cold face and Xeno’s exasperated one.
While the two tribes were having a private conversation. Visha had mentioned that a woman was watching Xeno and how her eyes never left him. Xeno dismissed it, but Visha was certain. It wasn’t that she didn’t feel uncomfortable. Rather, it was because she thought it was hilarious.
First Uri, now Xeno. Her men were amazing. But she knew Uri would get territorial. She wanted to see his expression when she was proven right.
"No," Uri responded, his voice tight.
Visha tried to keep a neutral expression.
"You either stay as part of the pack, or you leave. Now." The more Uri spoke, the colder his voice got.
Visha cleared her throat to stop herself from laughing. "Cheetah tribe leader, there is something you might not have noticed. Though I am not sure how you missed it. The three of us," she gestured with her finger, "are already partners. There will be no other partner between us."
The cheetah tribe leader’s eyes widened. So did the priest and the tribe leader’s daughter.
"So, we have no use for your daughter. What we need now is to know whether you will be a part of our pack. You might not be the leader, but I am sure there must be other potions in the tribe that suit you." She then looked at the priest, "As for you, I am sure we can learn from each other. You will not be able to perform rituals without my explicit consent. Still, you will be able to stay with your people and help in other aspects."
"The choice is yours," Uri finished.
The cheetah tribe leader closed his eyes, desolation spreading on his face. He took a deep breath, sighed, and opened his eyes again. "I, Crosvil, am willing to join your pack."
The priest heard his sigh and understood. He stared at the trio. He understood the tribe leaders’ for joining. He couldn’t help sighing as well. "I, Dilar, am willing to join your pack."
Their looks of resignation surprised Visha, Uri, and Xeno. They had not expected them to give in so easily. They wondered briefly if their situation was worse than they let on.
