Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 144: Bombarding the gate
It has been more than two weeks since the last time Visha had seen any of the people who stood at their gate asking questions.
She assumed the Stonefang Pack would be angry about their defeat and send people to start a fight. However, that did not happen. Instead, they were strangely silent. That made Visha and the other wary. But life had to go on.
As for the others. Uri and given them an ultimatum. They either join or they will not have a chance to know anything. He did not expect any of them to really join the pack. But the condition would be a win for them.
As they waited for their decision, the pack continued to get ready for winter. Visha had already stored a large amount of food in her space. When it came time for winter, she would put a portion of it in the warehouse. In this way, when it came time for everyone to eat, they did not need to come to her.
They would distribute rations to everyone in the pack while keeping the storage as back up, in case anything happened.
In addition to this, Visha also had her own stash. She made sure she always had extra. That way, should anything happen and they do not have time to gather the stock from the store room, they would still be able to have food on the run.
It was the best of many worlds.
It was one such day when they were hunting and stockpiling for the long winter. That they heard the alarm. It was a system they set up when they started digging tunnels.
This wasn’t an alarm for a threat. It was only to signal that people were visiting. Visha couldn’t understand who would be visiting now. She wanted to wait for the visitor in the square when she got a mind link that she was needed at the gate.
She moved quickly. She thought there was an emergency.
When she arrived, Uri and Xeno were already there. As soon as the gate opened, they saw a large number of people. Both male and female beastmen filed in before they had a chance to stop them.
They did not get far, however, before a loud voice sounded, "Stop!"
Krag’s voice echoed in the caldera. Birds flew from their roosts, and the six-pronged deer were frightened and ran away. Still, the voice was effective. Those who tried to barge in stopped in their tracks.
Visha couldn’t help thinking momentarily that it sounded like he had a loudspeaker in his throat.
"Who are you people and what are you doing here?" Xeno asked angrily.
"What? Don’t welcome us? Aren’t you the ones who said you wanted us to join your pack?" Alin’s annoyed voice was heard. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Everyone shifted their attention to him. He was at the front of the stampede, leading the charge.
"You are welcome to join. But I do not take disrespectful people in my home," Uri said, voice cold. Not waiting for him to respond, Uri continued. "Do not say you returning is proof of consent. If I were to run into your home, the way you did mine, you would not appreciate it. So why do you think it is fine to do that here? If you do not respect us, then leave."
With those words, Uri made his stance clear. Asking them to join was not a desperate measure on their part. He did not expect them to truly join. He did not need the headache of trying to rangle unruly people.
As silence descended, three people came forward. They were from the Cheetah tribe. One was a female, covered from head to toe, Alair. The other two were two males. They were not covered as tightly as Alair. One man wore a large headdress. The other walked beside him, confident in his stride.
When they came to a halt in front of the trio, Visha could feel their assessing gaze. Neither she nor Uri nor Xeno backed down. These people wanted to test them in their own territory. None of them appreciated it. All three of them had cold, assessing eyes. They wanted to know what kind of male would dare to threaten someone in their own territory.
When what seemed like forever passed, the first to look away was the man in the headdress.
Visha’s eyes followed him while Uri and Xeno’s eyes stayed on the other man, who soon looked away as well.
It didn’t take a genius to figure out who won.
"Why are you rushing into our home?" Uri asked the female. He recognized her from her scent.
"We didn’t rush in. Our Cheetah tribe is still at the gate," she motioned to the group of people standing at the border of the gate.
Xeno nodded, grunting softly. "Then why did you rush in?" Xeno asked Alin and Roc, who were standing close to each other.
Neither male answered. They had no answer. Both of them knew the reason was nothing more than bravado. They wanted to intimidate them with their numbers. The plan backfired, and instead they offended the only people who knew about the howl.
"I believed you were better than him. It seems I am wrong," Uri’s statement cut deep. He was speaking to Roc, whom he thought to be someone of more intelligence than Alin.
Roc did not respond. Instead, he stepped back.
"Don’t act! You don’t have enough people to stop us if we want to rush in," Alin said arrogantly.
Xeno, being the decisive person that he is, walked up to Alin and punched him square in the jaw. He did not do it hard enough to leave any permanent damage. Xeno only wanted to remind him whose territory he was in.
When he was flat on the ground, Xeno snarled. "Don’t test my patience. I am not your friend. I am a leader of the Warm Pack, and you will respect that."
Pride swelled in Visha’s heart.
Before things could escalate, she spoke, "Since everyone is already in, follow us to the square. We will sort everything out there."
Without further ado, they walked to the square.
