Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 108: Wondering about building a forge
After the new delegation left, the rest of the pack continued with their day as usual.
Today, the trio decided to check on the geothermal vents close to the waterfall. Visha was the one who decided to do so. She wanted to find a good place to build a forge. In addition, they never really fully explored this place.
They decided that today would be the day. As they interact with more tribes in the future, there may come a time when they will need to defend themselves. Since there are tribes much more advanced than their own, they need to make plans in secret.
Before they left, Visha had them use the knowledge crystal. She spent 400 CP to gain the knowledge for the ’Forge Knowledge Pack’.
She had searched the system and found the knowledge about smithing and forges. When it entered her mind, she couldnt understand a word of it. She gave the crystal to Uri and Xeno, waiting to see the look on their faces.
After gaining the information, the look of dismay on their faces made her laugh.
Just as she didn’t understand, they didn’t understand either. They were worse off than she because she at least had some basic knowledge. Minuscule though it was, she still had a frame of reference.
"Shasha," Xeno said, his face ugly. "I don’t understand why I just saw. What is quenching? What are air drafts?"
Visha laughed when she heard the question. She cackled when she saw Uri’s face. It was blank. It was as if he were doing a complete factory reset. His mind had glitched at the worst possible time.
Xeno had to shake him to get him to come back to his senses.
"Sha’min, we cannot do this. Even if we give this information to the pack, no one will understand," Uri stated.
"Is this how you felt when I left the information about the gate?" Visha asked.
Seeing their reaction to the forge made her remember when she gave them the gate information. The forge is much more complicated. However, they had never seen a gate like the one she was asking them to build. They must have had a hard time at that time, too, but they never complained.
Her eyes softened when she heard them respond in the affirmative.
"I’m sorry. I didn’t know it would be this hard on both of you. I though although it might not be professional, it would still be easy to follow the instructions." She reached up, ruffling their hair. "If you think something’s difficult next time, just tell me."
They reached an understanding in this way.
As for the complex diagrams, concepts, and schematics, she would leave them for another time. At least, for now, they were sure they had no way of making metal items.
If they couldn’t make it, they could scout a location for later.
They arrived at the place behind the waterfall and began to look around. They found that although there was a small geyser, most of the place was covered in vegetation. It was mainly hotter than the rest of the caldera. They could see steam, but they couldn’t see a place to build a forge.
Towards the back of the section, there was a rocky path that wound up the caldera wall. It was steep, but they could still climb.
"I don’t remember seeing this before," Xeno commented.
"Well, when we did the perimeter check, we didn’t actually explore each place in detail. There is still a lot to learn about our home," Visha stated.
As they navigated the path, they came upon a small plateau. In the center of the plateau was a large pool of water. Steam rose from its surface. The water was a turquoise blue that looked stunning to the eye.
"Well, now Chi won’t have to ask me about her hot spring anymore." Visha smiled as she walked towards the water.
She dipped her hand in the water, feeling the temperature. It was warmer than the surrounding area. She thought this would be a good place to come during the winter. Summer is upon them, and the caldera is already hot. They didn’t need a hot spring now.
"We need to keep searching," Uri reminded.
"Did you have somewhere in mind?" Visha asked, getting up, flashing the water off her hands.
From where they stood, they could see different sections of the caldera where steam was rising. This wasn’t their first time seeing the caldera steaming; this was the first time they were able to see the specific area so clearly.
Standing on the rim gave a bird’s eye view of everything, but their location now gave them the chance to have a closer view of the steam areas close by.
Uri, in particular, kept looking at a spot some distance away from the hot spring. It was a section of rock where there were fissures. It was harder to get to than where they stood now.
They had to walk down the rocky path from the other side of the plateau.
This time, Xeno chose to shift. He would be better able to handle some of the movement if he shifted. Both Uri and Visha sat on his back as he bounded to the other side of the plateau.
When they arrived, they felt the difference immediately. The entire caldera is much warmer than outside. The hot spring, in comparison to the caldera, is hotter. But this place...they could feel the heat under their feet as they stood there.
The air was clean. No sign of the sulfuric scent from the sulfur vents they found. This would be the new place for them to create a forge. All they needed to do now was find someone who could actually understand the information that was now stuffed in their brain.
Visha didn’t think it would be that easy to find. They were only just branching out. In order to find people, they might need to go on a pilgrimage.
They descended on Xeno’s back, heading towards the pack. They would report their findings when everyone returned from their trade.
From there, they would decide how to proceed.
There is one thing Visha was certain of. They may not understand it now, but she was sure the 400 CP had not gone to waste. She would find a way to use the knowledge in the future.
