Beastmen Love-Chapter 165: Culture Shock

Even though Claud and Astri tell everyone that those dinosaurs are not evil, they can’t leave their guard completely down.

"No problem. I believe I saw a female in that wooden box." The triceratops says.

The other two can smell a faint scent of females inside the carriage and that is making them curious.

"And for so much protection, it can only be because you have females." The brontosaurus says.

The two brontosaurus look like a duplicated image, they’re twins.

"Yes, we have females. Though one is a cub." Lee answers.

"Why are you here? I can see you have two dragons, but the rest are not dinosaurs for walking around here. You even have pests like a snake and a spider." The triceratops says, showing a cold behavior.

Astri raises her eyebrow slightly, not liking their comment.

"We’re merchants. We lost our ship. We heard about a place where our females would be safe and we’re taking them there." Lee answers.

"I see. Well, you’re going in the right direction. What do you sell?" The brontosaur of the right asks.

"We’re merchants and we also have doctors with us. I think we need to introduce ourselves better so you know what we sell, don’t you agree?"

"Doctors.. Then you’re carrying too many precious things. Females, products, probably gems, doctors." The triceratops says.

"My name is Lee." Lee says, getting angry with their rude behavior.

"Pete." The triceratops answers after a few seconds.

"Troy." The brontosaur from the right answers.

"Roy." The other answers.

"Honored to meet you, Pete, Troy and Roy. Do you know if there are available houses at Daerns’ Tribe? We heard that is the best place for us to go."

"Even if there’s not. For having a female and doctors, they will give you a house. At least this road you took is less known and you won’t find as many people, but you’re all snacks around here. I suggest you hand your females and doctors to us." Pete says.

Astri’s spouses are holding themselves back from answering rudely too.

"We might not agree on that remark. However, we do believe you’re strong. Would you like to work as guards and protect us until we find a house for us?" Lee says, hating to say that internally.

"What will we have as payment?" Pete asks.

"Gems. Of course."

"We want a spouse." Roy speaks.

"That is not possible. We don’t sell or use our females to bargain. That is too low." Lee says, showing how pissed he is.

"Are you calling us low?" Pete asks, angry.

"We might have only two dragons. But you three are only strong. You’re slow, and not capable of flying and taking our females away. You’re just shields. Don’t think too high of you." Dieg snarls.

"And you can, snack? I can smash you with one foot." Roy spits.

Astri sighs, then looks at Claud and Kangki. Kangki is angry too, and wants to kill them. Claud is more composed but even being more patient, he would just knock them out with his powers and leave.

"There, there boys.. Let’s not fight." Astri kindly says from inside.

Her voice alone was enough to make Pete, Roy and Troy more curious. She decides to use her feminine side and intelligence to help this negotiation.

"Watch and learn how to deal with people like them." Astri tells all of her group, in their mind.

Astri tells to Yuki keep her eyes closed and to stay with her brothers. Hopin holds Atlas, and Astri leaves the carriage with Kangki and Claud. The guards and spouses opened space for her to walk forward, and she made the dinosaurs amazed.

"Oh my... You’re the most beautiful female I ever saw in my life.." Pete says, and his tone changed very much.

"Why, thank you. My name is Astri. By your voice, I presume you’re Pete." Astri says, her posture and voice show an elegance that she normally doesn’t show.

"Yes.. Astri. What a beautiful name too."

"I’m Roy/Troy!" The twins jump forward to introduce themselves.

"Mister Pete, Roy and Troy. It’s a pleasure meeting you. I can see you’re strong and capable beastmen, and I’ll forgive you for treating me and my daughter as products to sell." She says, taking them by surprise.

"No! That’s not what we meant! It’s that.." They try to explain, knowing they’re losing their chances to impress Astri.

She raises her hand, smiling, making them stop talking.

"I know you meant no harm. As I said, you’re capable beastmen. As my spouse was saying, we lost our ship and that’s why we’re here. We’re looking for a safe place to stay, and if you’re not interested in our offer, I apologize for the waste of your time." The way she speaks makes them feel bad for putting her on the wrong side.

"We can protect you. We can help by asking for the best house for you. You don’t have to pay us anything, as long as you let us court you." Pete says, his smile is wide and showing a more submissive behavior.

"I don’t know how things work in here. However, one thing I know is that trust is what we must have between each other. We sell salt, medicine, and clothes, and we have doctors. My spouses and guards never failed to protect us for a long time, and I trust them with my life. I understand that this is a different place, but how can I trust you if you threaten to kill who always protects me?" Her question hits them as a punch, making them speechless. "I can see you’re capable and smarter than you look like. I’ll forgive you for that as well." She smiles at them, making them give a relaxed sigh.

"Thank you.. We apologize." Pete says.

"Don’t mention it. Now, if you please dress."

They quickly take the skirts that they were holding in their hands and dress.

"I’m sure you can keep your word and help us. Would you please consider talking to my spouses again, without fighting, and find the best solution together?" She asks, and they nod vigorously. "Good! Also, the snake is my spouse. And the spider is our trusted guardian of my cubs. If you ever call them pests again, I’ll be very disappointed in you. I don’t look after brutes as spouses and guards." She says, and they swallow dry. "I’m sure you will be just fine, then! You’re good, capable, strong, and smart beastmen!" She says, then turns around and goes to the carriage again.

Astri made herself look superior with eloquence but didn’t brush them off praising them and not making them feel disrespected. Her spouses and guards noticed that, but it’s not easy for a male to be disrespected and not want to fight for their honor. However, they can understand that it would be a waste of time and safety fighting now.

"We apologize for our behavior. Are you interested in working for us?" Lee asks, trying to follow Astri’s example.

"We apologize too.. Yes, we’re interested." Pete answers.

"Good! I’m sure that your strength will be great to have on our front line. Don’t you think, Galion?" Lee says.

"Yes. It would be the smartest choice." Galion answers.

"You mentioned that we’re going in the right direction. This is due to our spider, Skalven, he’s leading the way." Zin says.

The dinosaurs swallow their commentary because they know Astri is still hearing and she will be disappointed if they speak their mind.

"And he will keep leading our way. He gained our trust. Welcome to the group. As we keep on our journey, Galion will explain to you how the safety of our group works." Lee says, and they nod agreeing.

They resume their travel. Pete, Roy and Troy go behind Skalven. Galion walks to them and then starts to explain how the safety is organized. He took the chance to explain to Skalven too.

"Skalven, your main task is protecting the cubs. Astri can fly but can’t take all cubs, so if something happens you need to focus on keeping the cubs safe. Having Pete, Roy, and Troy on the front they can keep showing us the way, if they’re going to a way you don’t agree you come to talk to me and we will ask you to show us the way again." The dinosaurs are impressed that they’re trusting so much on a spider, everyone can see it’s written all over their faces that don’t agree with what they heard. They want to shift and step on him, but they don’t want to be on bad terms with Astri and they can see she trusts everyone there. Skalven stays quiet and keeps walking, ignoring the three dinosaurs. He’s impressed himself that he has such an important task, but he promised himself that he will never make Astri regret her choice of trusting him.

At night, as they were setting camp, the dinosaurs watched that weird group of beastmen making fire and that was shocking for them. Now they know those beastmen are not just rich.

They watch Astri leaving the carriage with Claud and Kangki, she was carrying Atlas and the other children went straight to Skalven to ask him to play with them again.

Skalven is not used to this kind of treatment, but he can’t deny he’s happy. Even more after Astri shows a smile and lets them play together.

Noticing the cubs are a way to Astri’s heart, the twins Troy and Roy go to them.

Yuki was waiting for her turn near Skalven, she looked at them and giggles.

"You look the same!" Yuki says to them.

"Yes! But I’m the strongest." Troy says.

"He’s the dumbest too." Roy says.

"Do you want to play with us?"

"No, thank you. I’m pwaying with Skalv." Yuki answers.

"Come on! We’re not poisonous and we don’t bite too. We know how to play great games." Roy says.

"That’s mean! Don’t talk about Skalv like that! He’s my fwend!"

Skalven was impressed watching Yuki protect him. The dinosaurs too.

"We know. We’re sorry. We shouldn’t have said that.." Troy says, worried the little girl would say anything to her mother.

"Apologize to Skalv!"

They look at Skalven, and apologize softly after some seconds. Skalven smiles and pats Yuki’s head.

"You’re kind. Just like your mother. And fierce too." Skalven says to Yuki.

"I hope you never see mom angwy." Yuki giggles.

"Yeah. When Mom is angry she makes anyone feel like a worm." Hopin says, warning the dinosaurs.

Skalven grabs the children a few more times until they’re tired and ready to sleep.
