Beast World: A Fragile Beauty Blessed with Many Children-Chapter 84 - 83: Guarding Against Me?
Her Beast Husbands were quite capable. Even during the Beast Tide, they only sustained minor injuries that were almost completely healed before she even had a chance to treat them.
Her Healing Ability was almost ridiculously overpowered. Naturally, Si Shuo wasn’t foolish enough to expose herself just to level up her superpower. Besides, with her new replication superpower and the system-rewarded Life Reviving Pills, she had grown a bit complacent.
Ji Liang said nonchalantly, "The workshops north of the Dongye Forest are a chaotic mix of good and bad. At their auctions, as long as you can afford the Crystal Stones, you can buy anything you want—including Beastmen!"
Si Shuo gasped. "Ji Liang, did you say Beastmen?"
’Shocked as she was, she quickly adjusted her mindset. ’In Huaxia’s history,’ she recalled, ’the first class-based society to emerge from a primitive one was a slave society.’
Conditions on the Southern Continent were relatively harsh, so everyone lived in tribes. On the Central Continent, however, Beastmen were more often organized into families.
Furthermore, an agricultural civilization required a large labor force. Freed from the constraints of hunting and gathering, Beastmen began hiring people for manual labor and chores like laundry and cleaning. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Yes," Ji Liang said, though his explanation differed from her thoughts. "The Beastmen there include Female Slaves with low fertility, as well as Male Slaves with high Combat Power who are temporarily suppressed."
"The former are for males to use for their release, while the latter are for females from powerful families who have poor fertility."
Si Shuo poked Ji Liang’s head. "Ji Liang, are you saying we should go and see if we can find a bargain?"
Ji Liang hissed with a laugh. "That’s right, find a bargain!
This place is very close to the Dongye Forest. The vendors who can set up stalls in this workshop are all quite powerful, and their own Combat Power is decent.
Families from the Central Continent who are accustomed to comfortable lives rarely come this way.
Some of these Male Slaves for sale might very well have been abducted from their own families or tribes."
For some reason, Si Shuo was suddenly reminded of Beast Chess. The elephant, with its formidable physique, is the most powerful piece on the board, able to capture almost any other. And yet, it is singularly kept in check by the tiny mouse.
’Just like how a fragile female can use a male’s Beast Mark to keep him firmly in her grasp!’
She couldn’t resist hugging Ji Liang’s serpentine head. "Ji Liang, doesn’t that mean it was incredibly dangerous for you back when you were a trader, traveling around with your Beast Mark?"
Ji Liang let out a muffled laugh, hissing as he nodded. "It was. My Combat Power Level wasn’t considered impressive on the Central Continent back then, but that didn’t stop some females from wanting to snatch me up as a child husband.
Besides, I wanted to build up a nice nest egg for my future little female and hoped to find you sooner, so I formed my own Traveling Merchant Team and managed to make a name for myself."
Si Shuo nuzzled him and sighed. "I thought lone females were the ones in danger of being snatched up by ill-intentioned males. It turns out powerful males with Beast Marks aren’t safe either?"
"Yes. On our Southern Continent, the greatest dangers are the surrounding Fierce Beasts and having enough stored food and fuel for the long rainy season and the coldest season.
But on the Central Continent, the greatest danger lies in the hearts of other Beastmen!
Especially when it comes to struggles for power and profit within families and tribes. The schemes are endless and impossible to guard against.
These Female and Male Slaves were likely victims of such plots."
Si Shuo glanced over at Xiao Shisi dozing on Zhi Le’s back. He was a living example.
For a moment, Si Shuo wasn’t sure whether coming to the Central Continent with her Beast Husbands had been the right decision.
Noticing the little female on his head had fallen silent, Ji Liang chuckled. "What’s wrong, Little Shuoshuo? Are you scared?
Every place has its dark corners. As long as we’re careful, avoid falling into others’ traps, and don’t go looking for trouble, we’ll be fine.
If we’d stayed on the Southern Continent, our strength would have probably maxed out at Level 12 or 13.
The Central Continent is more complex, but if we can establish a firm foothold here, your life can be more comfortable, Little Shuoshuo, and we brothers can push our strength to new heights."
Si Shuo smiled and shook her head. "With you all here, what do I have to fear?"
Ji Liang swayed his head, his golden pupils narrowing into slits. "HISSS. It is our honor to be the source of Little Shuoshuo’s confidence."
They were about to leave the Dongye Forest, and the Beastmen were even more eager to press on. Their pace quickened, and they pushed forward without a break. By the time they emerged from the sparse woods and saw the vast grasslands, the sky was still bright.
As far as the eye could see, there was a sprawling camp of beast-skin tents. That must be the Dongye Middle Square they had been talking about!
After more than a month under the forest’s dappled sunlight, the sudden expanse of open sky made Si Shuo feel a sense of release, as if her own heart had opened up. She had the urge to shout at the top of her lungs.
Indeed, some of the Beastmen in their Beast Forms howled with excitement, and the young cubs joined in with their own soft cries.
By the time everyone had calmed down, they had already arrived outside the workshop.
Si Shuo switched from her perch on Ji Liang’s head to Zhi Le’s back, settling back into Xiao Shisi’s embrace.
Although the workshop was only open seasonally for about half a month, it was encircled by a massive stone wall conjured by Earth Element Ability Users. The wall was reinforced, raised, and expanded every year until its scale could almost rival that of Puchang City!
Si Shuo was slightly taken aback, and the other first-timers couldn’t hide their astonishment either.
Who could have imagined that a mere temporary workshop outside the forest would be on par with the second-largest Beast City on the Southern Continent?
Seeing their unsophisticated expressions, the Beastmen who frequented the workshop were unfazed, but they still sneered with contempt. "Well, well. Was there some disaster down south this year? Look at all these Beastmen dragging their whole families along!"
"Seems like any riffraff can just waltz into the Central Continent these days. Do they really think that just because they survived the Dongye Forest, they can live a peaceful life here? Heh, what a joke!"
"You never know. The females they bring look pretty fertile. All they need to do is rope in a few powerful males to hunt in the forest or work as hired hands carrying goods and farming, and they can support a family. So eager to be laborers, always bowing and scraping. Not our problem, I guess..."
The Beastmen of the Dongzhou Merchant Team were long accustomed to this and proceeded toward their designated camp without a change in expression.
The Beastmen following them, however, flushed with shame and could barely lift their heads. They wished they could just turn back and leave, losing all of their usual will to stand up for themselves.
A wave of inferiority, the likes of which they had never felt before, crashed over them and swallowed them whole.
Si Shuo, on the other hand, felt no such thing. Instead, she observed everything with curiosity while Ji Liang and the others stayed close, protecting her.
The difference between the Southern and Central Continents was indeed vast. Arriving here gave her the distinct impression that she had finally emerged from the untamed wilds.
The stalls were filled with clay pots of all shapes and sizes, bolts of cotton and linen, and even ready-made clothing. The Beast Skins, Crystal Stones, and accessories were also of much higher quality and in greater abundance.
Not only that, but many vendors were also selling seeds, medicinal pills, eggs, milk, and even live poultry and livestock!
Xiao Shisi glanced at Ji Liang, then wrapped an arm around Si Shuo, leaning in to whisper with a smile, "What secrets was Brother Ji Liang telling you? You even put up a Protective Shield. Was it to keep me from hearing?"
