Beast World: A Fragile Beauty Blessed with Many Children-Chapter 82 - 81: Not as Fragrant and Soft as Sister
The two groups, traveling together to the Central Continent, had traversed this path countless times. Even though they had devised and methodically implemented all sorts of ways to mitigate the danger, they remained on high alert, their nerves stretched taut, not daring to relax for a second. They ran until the forest grew completely dark, only stopping to rest and replenish their energy when they reached the shore of a lake.
Gong You gently pulled Si Shuo from Xiao Shisi’s arms and led her to the lakeside.
"How about I grill some fish for you, sweetie? There are some small shrimp in here too. Weren’t you just talking about wanting to deep-fry them with lard and chili peppers until they’re crispy enough to eat shell and all?"
Si Shuo nodded and gestured to him. "Gong You, can you see if there are any loaches or eels at the bottom of the lake? The kind that like to burrow into the mud. They look like snakes but don’t really bite, and they aren’t too long."
Gong You raised an eyebrow, his dark green eyes narrowing slightly. He traced a circle with his finger, his head unconsciously bobbing along. He looked like a charlatan shaman.
Si Shuo pressed her lips together to suppress a smile, curious about what he was doing but afraid to disturb him.
Barely ten seconds later, he suddenly opened his eyes. At the same time, with a great SPLASH, several eels and loaches, along with the stinking mud from the lakebed, were encased in orbs of water and tossed onto the shore!
Si Shuo was stunned. ’Wait, can a Water Ability be used like that?’
Previously, Xu Chi had used a tornado to catch fish, shrimp, and crabs from the lake for her. Now, Gong You’s use of Water Spiritual Power was no less impressive. ’It really is an essential Skill for a Cat Clan member’s Beast Husband to have when traveling.’
The freshwater catch was placed in a large-bellied earthenware pot. With a wave of his hand, Gong You sent the excess water back into the lake.
After doing this three or four times, the pot was bustling with tumbling shrimp, eels, and loaches!
Zhi Le came over, scooped out the small shrimp, and zapped them with a bit of lightning, stunning them all unconscious.
The shrimp were small. After being washed a few times, they just needed to be marinated with a little green onion, ginger, and salt, coated in a layer of egg batter, pan-fried in lard, and then sprinkled with a handful of fresh chili peppers.
The eels and loaches needed two days to purge the sand and mud from their systems. Si Shuo was worried they wouldn’t survive the journey.
Gong You directly applied the Time Law, enveloping the large-bellied pot. The superpower’s range was small, but its effect was dramatic. The salted eels and loaches frantically spat out sandy foam, their bodies twisting so fast they became blurs.
While they waited, Si Shuo also had Gong You use his water orbs to bring up a good number of river snails, each as large as a walnut.
Xu Chi scrubbed them clean one by one with a brush, used a Wind Blade to cut off their tips, then rinsed them again and drained the water.
He heated oil in a wok, stir-fried chili peppers and ginger until fragrant, then tossed in the snails to flash-fry. He added a few spoonfuls of broad bean paste and continued to fry for a moment before adding water, cinnamon, bay leaves, and other spices to simmer.
In just one Beast Hour, the eels and loaches had completely purged the sand from their bellies.
After being gutted and cleaned, they were de-headed, de-tailed, and chopped into small segments. These were stir-fried in oil, then a block of hot pot base was added and stir-fried with them before water was poured in to simmer for a while...
The aroma of food frying in oil, especially when the chili peppers were added, was detected by nearly all the Beastmen with their sensitive noses.
The food wasn’t even ready yet, but a group of cubs had already gathered around, whimpering and spinning in anxious circles! The females couldn’t stop swallowing their saliva either.
The males who doted on their cubs and females couldn’t help but step forward, blushing, holding out Crystal Stones and hoping to trade for a bit of each dish.
But their own males were starving after a full day of travel. They’d been busy cooking for half the day, and there might not even be enough for themselves. Why would they give it up for a few Crystal Stones to Beastmen who had nothing to do with them?
Without a word, Ji Liang let out a low HISS and threw up a Protective Shield, trapping the aroma and preventing it from wafting out.
Xiao Shisi was already digging in with gusto. She used a bamboo skewer to pick out a snail, the spicy, chewy meat making her practically radiate with uncontrollable excitement. "You should feed your own females and cubs! Coveting food that’s about to go in someone else’s mouth... they’ve clearly had it too easy and gotten greedy. Do they think my brothers are just for show?
Isn’t that right, Sister? The fruits of my brothers’ labor are naturally for you to enjoy. How could we let other females and cubs get a taste!"
Si Shuo held a coarse ceramic bowl, crunching on the crispy, spicy river shrimp. Taking advantage of the Protective Shield’s sound-dampening properties, she leaned in and asked with a quiet laugh, "Little Sister Xiao Wu, aren’t you one of those ’other females’ besides me?"
Xiao Shisi’s lips were already a little red and swollen from the spice, and her eyes were watery. Even with the Human Skin Mask, she couldn’t hide her bewitching appearance.
"How am I the same? I’m your un-mated male right now. If I don’t eat with you guys, isn’t that just blatantly telling everyone our relationship is fake?
Besides, I’ll have my Father and Mother pay you back in Crystal Stones later! I care most about you, Sister. I don’t even see those brothers of yours."
Si Shuo smiled, pressing her lips together. ’It’s true.’ Perhaps it was because they were both female, or because of Xiao Shisi’s experience of being kidnapped and almost forced to mate with a male. Or perhaps it was because Si Shuo had led the Beastmen to overcome a million-strong Beast Tide in the name of the Beast God.
Xiao Shisi’s eyes were practically glued to her. Wherever Si Shuo went, those beautiful brown eyes followed.
"I doubt that. Once you get back to the Central Continent and meet some powerful males, you won’t even remember me," Si Shuo teased, mimicking how other females would joke with Xiao Shisi.
Xiao Shisi huffed. "What’s so great about stinky, stubborn males? They’re not soft and sweet-smelling like you, Sister!"
At this, Xiao Shisi glanced at the males around them, scooted closer to Si Shuo, and whispered in her ear, "Sister, if I were a male, would you accept me?"
The words had barely left her lips when Xiao Shisi felt several glares, as sharp as daggers, shoot in her direction.
Si Shuo nearly choked. She coughed twice. "Xiao Wu, can we please not discuss such terrifying topics while we’re eating?"
On the Beast World Continent, females were few and males were many. Some Beastmen of a low Level, or whose Beast Forms were unappealing to females, or who were Rogue Beasts, would end up without a female to follow. They would partner up with handsome males to get by.
This was already a very normal phenomenon.
But she had never heard of two females developing feelings that went beyond friendship.
Xiao Shisi asked with earnest persistence, "Sister, just try to imagine it!"
Si Shuo’s mind was filled with the image of Xiao Shisi’s light blue hair and her tall, pure, yet alluring figure. She couldn’t connect that with a male in any way. "I can’t imagine it."
Xiao Shisi pouted. "If I were a male, I definitely wouldn’t have these two lumps of flesh on my chest. My face would be colder and more handsome, and my body would be strong and powerful.
The talent of the brothers in my family is pretty good, but I would definitely be even more amazing than them."
Si Shuo recalled what Xiao Shisi looked like right after she had put on her disguise. There was indeed a refreshing, dashing handsomeness to her that could make one’s heart skip a beat.
Speaking of which, her Beast Husbands had all endured great hardship. All their impressive skills had been honed by life.
But one look at Xiao Shisi and you could tell she had been well-protected by her family. Even after being kidnapped and sold, her eyes still held a pure innocence. When she smiled, her radiant expression was like the morning sun in summer!
