Beast Evolution System: Devourer of Heaven-Chapter 282: The dream walkers
When Ved and Naledi woke up, the first thing they did was send out orders. Night was not far away.
They didn’t have time to call a summit so messages were sent instead. The messages were clearer and more detailed.
Fortunately communication means rivalled if not surpassed that of the old world by now. Their message was delivered through the news.
Social media and everything. Since it came directly from the beast king and the queen Naledi as people addressed them.
Everybody took it very seriously. While this was happening another group was having a meeting.
" How goes the preparations?" One of them asked. Another sighed, " This new development will slow us down.
The presence of the herald of nightmares seem to be blocking the passage for our lord to pass through."
They all sighed but one of them shook their head. " That doesn’t make sense, the passage was open when another herald was here.
So what is so special about this one?" They were all quiet for a while. " We do not know, out duty is to welcome the lord when he rises from the infernal depth."
They nodded with excitement. The group scattered and went back to their daily lives pretending to not be in a cult. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Unbeknownst to them, in the void between realms, a massive being with red skin stood facing a small woman.
" It’s too early for you, I will need you to remain here a bit longer." The woman said in a final tone. The red skinned being roared with rage but couldn’t even move their body.
Night came, Naledi and Ved meditated around burning candles. White ghostly mist danced around them and they breathed it in.
Ved didn’t actually need this to enter the dream realm but it made it easier. He took them both to the dream realm.
When they arrived, they saw the dream space shining with golden stars that shifted like sand.
Which they were as dream stars were constructed of golden energy like sand. They floated through this space cruising at speed far beyond light.
Since only their consciousness and part of their souls were here, they weren’t bound by the laws of the heavens.
However no matter how far they went, they couldn’t find a single black star. More dream stars lit up one after another meaning people were falling asleep.
However Ved knew these dreams stars represented every living creature that can dream under the heavens, not just Earth.
Which meant they couldn’t interact with any of them. He could sense those effected by his dream mist.
However their stars were dull meaning they were yet to fall asleep. After a few hours here, when the clock hit exactly 8 pm outside.
Every single star of those effected by his dream mist lit up at once as if it was planned. Before he could react the dream stars turned into black sand.
They were all attacked by the herald of nightmares simultaneously. They looked at each other.
He split their wills and consciousness, this was going to weaken them but it would allow them to enter every nightmare.
Fortunately the nightmares operated within their own rules so he didn’t have to worry much about their lost power.
He was glad their wills grew so much stronger just earlier that day. When they entered the nightmares he noticed something else.
The nightmares were constructed from memories containing only fears or terrible experiences, even imagination.
Most were easier to deal with and not very dangerous to the dreamer. He realised what the herald can do was limited to the memories and fears of the dreamer.
Which was a relief, for a brief moment before he realised how terrifying their current world was.
As expected, he and Naledi found themselves in a world covered by dark clouds and black snow.
" By Odin’s dirty beard." Naledi giggled. " This isn’t funny you know." He berated her. " I know but you’re cute when you curse the gods, they’re bastards anyways."
He looked around and realised they were in a small town of some sort. Some of the people had clear faces but some were blurry.
It was obvious whoever the dreamer was couldn’t remember their faces, to be exact, he had never truly seen their faces. The problem now was finding where the dreamer was.
Unfortunately he was still just a human, since this town only had humans he also took the role of a human.
He sighed, the rules of these nightmares were pissing him off. He checked himself while running around town.
He was fast and stronger, stronger than he was in the first nightmare. On his waist was a sword which he figured was a vessel.
He could tell instinctively he had certain control over it. ’ Is this a character the nightmare constructed or a real person?’
He couldn’t figure it out so he asked Manas. " The nightmare would construct a character for you if one is not there but if there are extra characters, you take the role of one of them.
So this man is possibly a living person." He nodded, that made sense. He told Naledi what Manas said.
She nodded, he looked at her clearly and realised her character was quite good looking, not nearly as heavenly beautiful as the real her but good looking none the less.
She had long blonde hair and really big breasts. She caught him looking at her breasts and the next thing he knew he was stuck on a wall.
" What was that for?" He asked, she clicked her tongue. " How dare you ogle other women in my presence?
He giggled, " Technically it’s you." She pulled up her sleeves. " Don’t be smart with me mister."
He nodded, " Yes ma’am, but we should probably find the dreamer now." It took some time but they found him hiding in his house.
" Sa.. Sam, Nancy? You’re alive? Thank goodness I thought you died, I thought you died."
They both sighed, " What’s your name?" Naledi asked. " Nancy, it’s me Jonathan, how can you not remember me?"
He went for a kiss and Ved closed his eyes and winced. Unsurprisingly her heard a cry of pain.
" How are you so strong?" Jonathan asked with confusion. " That’s because I’m not the Nancy you know and this is not the Sam you know.
This Jonathan is a dream." Jonathan looked confused. " A dream? Oh, I remember seeing the news this evening, I see, so I’m trapped in a nightmare?"
They both nodded, " Will I will be okay?" Jonathan asked, " You’re the king and queen of beasts right? You can save me right?"
Naledi smiled at being called a queen by somebody else other than Ved. " You seem like a good lad, sure, I’ll make sure you live to see morning."
Ved sighed, she really couldn’t help but make promises can she. Then he stood up, " The herald is here, it’s starting."
" I remember this..." " I would prefer you don’t." Ved cut Jonathan off before he could continue saying anything.
But his effort were in vain, he couldn’t stop him from remembering.
