Beast Evolution System: Devourer of Heaven-Chapter 277: Baba Yaga
The girl whispered in a voice like that of a mourning ghost.
"He never should’ve turned his back.
Breath of old went down his neck
But when he turned the girl was gone.
In her stead , silence roamed.
Fear gripped his heart.
Through the forest he ran to grannies house.
There he found neither woman nor child
For one of old stood waiting instead."
The moment she said that he felt something breath on the back of his neck. He spun and stabbed the air but found nothing there.
The other two were startled by his actions and turned with him. None of them saw anything.
Naledi suddenly rolled on the ground, turned around and brandished her dagger. " I’m sure I felt something behind me." She said with sweat on her back.
He nodded, " Same." the two understood. They turned to opposite directions with their backs facing each other.
The dreamer girl was between them shaking with fear. They gripped their daggers so tight their knuckles turned white.
They heard humming followed by giggling but still couldn’t point out the direction it came from.
Ved had to admit he was terrified, it had been a while since he felt so powerless, even against foes stronger than him he still had his power.
But this time he had even lost that, worst still, his dream mist was taking too long to regenate.
He heard breaking twigs and held his dagger even tighter. The mist around them grew thicker with each passing moment.
By now he could barely see two metres ahead. He doubted the girl could see anything at all in this mist.
Apparently Naledi was faring better because of her divine flame. Since it burns in her eyes, it allowed her to see even further.
Even so, according to her it was barely 4 to 5 metres ahead. They retreated and drew closer to each other while keeping the girl between them.
" Why do you fight young ones? This is not your dream, not your nightmare. Why do you risk yourself for another?"
They heard the voice of Red riding hood but it was not merely her own, they could hear something deeper, something older. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
" I’ve been waiting for you the old one said.
With a voice so ancient it shouldn’t be heard.
The old wolf turned and away he ran.
He ran and ran but saw no end.
For the forest has stretched to bounds unheard."
The girl continued, the moment she said that, the ground beneath their feet stretched taking them further from each other.
Realising how bad the situation is, he grabbed the girl so they wouldn’t be separated.
He tried to reach for Naledi but the ground stretched too fast. In only a few seconds he could no longer see her.
He couldn’t tell how far they were from their initial position. It could be a metre, a thousand of perhaps an infinite distance away.
" NALEDI." he shouted but his voice merely sunk into the mist and disappeared like smoke. He sighed.
He couldn’t help but worry, strong as she was, her power was limited here. If those two attacked her at the same time she would lose.
He grabbed the girl and was about to run off when he heard a growl. He turned and saw two red orbs glowing through the mist.
" Stay behind me." He whispered to the girl who grabbed his t-shirt instead. He tried to shake her off but she tightened her grip.
The wolf lunged, he was forced to tackle her and roll on the ground. " I can’t fight if you’re holding onto me."
He looked at her teary face, with reluctance she let go of him. He stood up and faced the wolf.
It jumped at him again, it massive maw heading straight for his head. It was going for the kill immediately.
He twisted his body and punched it on the face. It head snapped to the side and it rolled on the ground.
However he also grimaced, his arm could barely handle the strain of his martial arts. He didn’t give it a chance.
Before it could get up he ran towards it, his hands turned into two black streaks. The wolf has no time to react.
He clawed it face using dragon claw technique, unfortunately for him, his human fingers didn’t have tough claws.
He couldn’t penetrate through it thick hide, before he could react it bit his arm. A mind numbing pain went through his head.
He gritted his teeth through the pain and kicked it on the ribs. It went tumbling on the ground again.
But he could barely feel his arm, it had turned red with blood. The bite wound was so deep he could see his bone.
Even the bone had tiny cracks. He gritted his teeth even harder. Fighting like this will be harder.
’ Shit shit shit.’ then he suddenly heard a scream behind him. He turned around and saw her.
Red riding hood was standing above the girl with a wide grin. She opened her mouth, her jaws unlocked like a snake.
Her mouth grew wider than it should’ve been possible for a human. Inside, it was filled with hundreds of thin razor sharp teeth, like long needles.
" Noooo." Ved roared, he knew he couldn’t get there in time but he tried. He didn’t want to let the girl die.
Not after Naledi promised her they would get her home safely. Just as Red riding hood was about to bite the girls head off.
A stone knife flew out of the mist and stabbed her head. She roared with rage but before she could react her head flew through the air.
The head disappeared through the mist and Naledi appeared. He sighed with relief and they both stood protectively around the girl.
" So you think she’s dead?" Naledi asked. " I did take her head off after all, that should be enough right?"
He shook his head. " I’m afraid not, it would take more than that to kill her."
" The wolf growl in rage
Afraid and betrayed.
His teeth were sharp but her eyes were deep.
She whispered words that were not her own.
The land grew soft like forest loam."
The girl continued then it suddenly hit him. " Stop." He tried to stop her but it was too late.
