Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 269: You Can Call Me Lucifer
Chapter 269: You Can Call Me Lucifer
Time resumed as Mad Dog dropped to his knees, blood leaking from his eyes, ears, and nose as he clutched his head in pain.
"What—" started Gideon as the Scavengers took one look at their leader and backed away. "What did you do to him?" Even the Blackguard captain had turned pale as he looked up at me in fear.
"Not much," I shrugged, pulling out the lollypop from my mouth and kicking Mad Dog in the stomach. "I just kind of fucked with his head a bit. I’m sure he’ll be right as rain in a few minutes. Give him some time."
"He’s fucking bleeding out everywhere," cried one of the Scavengers as the rest looked around for the nearest exit. "How is he going to be fine?"
"Well," I replied, cocking my head to the side. "I made him relive everything that he had put his victims through. You did know he was a serial killer, right? I guess he had a thing for young girls and hated the idea that there was something he couldn’t have. But that’s beside the point. As soon as he is done experiencing their pain and suffering, then he’ll be just fine."
"All his victims died," hissed the big bald dude as he swung his rifle over at me. "They are dead."
"Oh," I shrugged. "Then I guess that changes things. My bad. Sorry about that."
"If you think about it," interjected Harper, coming to his feet. Walking over to where I was standing, he crossed his arms in front of his chest and stared at Gideon. "This is justice. He is reaping what he sowed, and I, for one, think that it is a great thing."
There were a few members of the Blackguard who seemed to be nodding with Harper’s statement and even more eyes that turned to me with fear and awe written all over their faces.
"Before you make something more out of this," I started, holding up my hand. "I didn’t really do this for justice. I was just looking for a suitable way of torturing him that didn’t involve getting blood and bodily fluids all over the place. It’s not like I can just jump into a hot shower right now. He just had some really fucked up ideas in his head that I wanted to try out, and so I did."
The silence in the mall was almost deafening. Every man around me was staring at me, and it was beginning to become uncomfortable. "Impressive," grunted Salvatore, breaking the silence as he came over and gave me a kiss on my forehead. "I approve."
"Wow," I chuckled at him. "Three words in a row. Are you sure you’re not possessed by a demon or something?"
The rest of my men laughed at my bad attempt at a joke, but the humans shifted nervously, looking at each other as if trying to figure out if I was joking or not.
"So," I finally said, glaring at Gideon. "Are we going to get this show on the road? Don’t you have to bring supplies back or something?"
"No," he answered with a definitive shake of his head. He rose to his feet, the rest of his men following his lead and circling around him as if to protect him from me. So much for the man who promised to protect me until his dying breath.
Humans were so fickle.
What I didn’t notice right away was the number of men that had gathered around Harper, including some of the Scavengers.
"We need to get back home and report to Raines," said Gideon, his eyes burrowing holes into Harper’s face. "And you need to fall back in line."
"Sorry," shrugged Harper, the bright smile on his face letting Gideon know just how ’sorry’ he was. "But I made a promise. And unlike you, I’ll be sure to keep mine."
Ouch.
That had to hurt.
"You are now in control of L City," I announced, looking at Harper from the corner of my eyes. "You don’t need to worry about anything. It is already a done deal. Do you have anything else you might want? I can grant you one free wish."
One of the men behind Gideon snorted at my statement. "Have you informed anyone else in L City about this change? Because I am thinking that not everyone is going to agree with it."
"Those who disagree can die," I replied, the smile long gone from my face. When I was a kid, I always thought that interacting with people, making friends, and spending time with others was the most magical concept that I could ever experience.
But now I know the truth. Humans are stupid. Idiotic. Moronic. They don’t know when they should just yield. Instead, they keep banging their heads against a brick wall and claim that they are making progress when their skulls cave in.
"I want to be invincible," announced Harper, looking at Gideon. "I want to make sure that when someone tries to stab me in the back, they can’t succeed. I want it so that whatever fight, battle, or war I am in, I win. I want to stand above millions, but only under one."
The sound of my guys growling made me wonder what they had caught in his words that had completely flown over my head, but I really couldn’t figure it out.
There were so many ways that Harper’s wish could probably go wrong, but at least he wasn’t asking to be immortal. Or to get rid of zombies. All he wanted to do was make sure that his life wasn’t on the line in these chaotic times.
And really, who didn’t want that?
An invincible man to rule a city in my name was exactly what the doctor ordered. "Done," I announced, a slight smile on my face as I looked at him. "But when I come back, please make sure that there are fewer idiotic people around. I mean, we’re trying to start off on a new foot here and everything."
"Your wish is my command," purred Harper as he looked down at me, a bright smile on his face. The look in his eyes was trying to tell me something, but I really didn’t know what it was.
"You have that the wrong way around," I smiled just as Daddy placed his hand in mine. "But if you do need me, just call. I’ll be around."
"You never did tell me your name," replied Harper, the look still firm on his face as the rest of my men surrounded me.
"Oh?" I mused. I couldn’t have sworn I had. "You can call me Lucifer."
