Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 264: Monsters In The Darkness
Chapter 264: Monsters In The Darkness
Gideon led the way down the road with his team surrounding us as an official ’escort’. I didn’t know why everyone was so hyped up on supplies, but I guess not everyone could live on lollypops like I could. freёnovelkiss.com
Speaking of...
I took one out of my space, only for Chang Xuefeng to snatch it out of my hand before I could open it. "Luca," he snapped, throwing my candy to where Luca was walking beside Gideon. "She needs something proper to eat."
"Daddy!" I complained, letting out a loud huff. "You’re not being nice."
"I have some beef jerky," announced Gideon, reaching into one of his pants pockets to pull out a ziplock back of... something.
"It’s from 2120," he continued. "So it might be a bit old, but it’s still good." As if to emphasize his point, he picked a piece out and bit into it. He had to tear it a bit with his teeth, but eventually, he got a piece.
"No, thank you," I quickly said, leaning as far away from the thing in his hand. "I’ll stick to my lollypops."
"You said 2120," murmured Luca, his eyes narrowing on Gideon. "What year is it?"
"You don’t know?" sneered the man beside Gideon. "It’s 2124. We’ve been at war with the zombies for four years now."
Even I froze to hear that. Just over three hours at the Carnival of the Damned and over three years passed here on earth. Well, that will teach me to easily go into another realm. I wondered why my house didn’t do the same creepy time-warp thing.
I’d have to talk to Miranda about that next time I saw her.
"Shit," grunted Salvatore, looking at his brothers.
"Yup," scoffed Ronan. "But like our darlin’ said... who gives a fuck. It donna change anything, now, does it? Same shit... just a bit older shit."
"You going to clue me in?" asked Gideon, cocking his head to the side as Luca simply shook his. "Nope," he grunted before continuing on his path forward.
I was so proud of him... I really didn’t think he would take it so calmly, but that was our second in command. Nothing phased him much.
----
We seemed to be walking for a while as the sun started setting behind us, extending our shadows until they looked like giants.
Finally, we seemed to have arrived at the location Gideon had in mind for some shopping, and we came to a stop. "This is it?" asked Dante, cocking his head to the side. The mall in front of us had seen better days. There was broken glass everywhere, along with bloody handprints and skeletons hanging from shards of glass way above us.
"And you guys thought the house was creepy," I grunted, pointing up to the body. "At least I didn’t hang skeletons from the windows."
"But now you’re thinking about it," chuckled Tank as he once again brushed my cheek. "Admit it, you like the decorations."
I smirked at him as Chang Xuefeng helped me down so that I was standing on two feet. "Does anyone remember the problem with this?" I asked with a sigh. Since I wasn’t planning on sleeping here tonight, my wish for supplies was in full effect and I could already feel my space filling up with more and more things.
"Of course, Sugar," smiled Gluttony as he looked at me from Beau’s eyes. "But that’s what makes it even more fun."
Casting an illusion so that nobody outside the ten of us knew that the mall was already cleaned out and in my space, I nodded my head. "Well, let’s see what they have for us."
Skipping past Luca and Gideon, I hopped through the shattered glass door and into the mall.
"Aren’t you worried about her?" sputtered Gideon as I picked up a ’bag’ of popcorn. It was pretty cool to see my illusion so perfect. I could even feel the weight of the bag in my hand like it actually existed.
This was going to be the perfect prank on the base where we were going. Then again, considering the trap they laid for us to fall into, having their supplies disappear before their eyes wasn’t all that good.
I would have to think on that...
"The only thing I am worried about is her teeth breaking off from trying to eat four year old popcorn," sighed Chang Xuefeng as he pushed past ’Grim’ and toward me.
"I really am amazed that you have made it this long, especially with a kid in tow," murmured one of the men beside Gideon, but I ignored that remark. Throwing the bag at Luca, I looked at him with big eyes.
"Can I have it?" I begged prettily; the smile bright on my face. I always loved putting on a show, and now I had a whole new audience.
"No," replied Luca. "Your Daddy will kill me."
"As long as you are aware," sniffed Chang Xuefeng. "So," he continued, turning his attention to Gideon. "The sun has already set, how do you want to do this?"
"We stick together," replied Gideon, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the dark corridors as if just realizing that it was now night. "Start with the upper levels first and then work our way down. Everyone gets to buddy with a new guy. Show him the way the Blackguard does it."
There was a chorus of low grunts as Gideon’s men nodded their heads. Did they really think they would get the upper hand if they split us up? So cute.
"Go," I smiled at my men, my eyes sparkling. "Just make sure that you have fun! After all, what good is living if you can’t play once in a while."
My men nodded, understanding exactly what I was saying even as Gideon let out a sigh. "I’m sorry, Sweetheart," he interjected, actually sounding apologetic. "But this isn’t the time to play. We are here for a reason; we need to do our job and get home before the monsters in the darkness come out and try to hurt you."
Silly human. I was the monster in the darkness. And right now, I kind of wanted to play.
