Basketball System: Rebound of the Underdog-Chapter 444: I Listened, Always
Kai couldn’t believe that Minyu was actually Fang’s brother. Their similarities weren’t blatant, but now that he looked at them more intently, Kai realized that Minyu did have the same smile as Fang. Or maybe it was because Fang didn’t smile often, so Kai couldn’t compare them.
Fang, however, had the biggest smile on his face at the moment. The times when they won very big games didn’t even compare to it. His teammates, too, were shocked. They felt as if this was the first time they had seen Fang smile so genuinely before.
Kai shook his head in amusement. He was glad Fang was able to fix things with his brother now.
Aside from that, he was happy to see Rui drop to the ground like he had heard the worst news in his life—which he probably did. Kai wanted to make him suffer even more, but at the same time, he believed he already got what he deserved.
Although there were still a lot of questions in his mind, Kai decided to walk away and join his teammates’ celebration.
However, someone suddenly called his name, causing him to halt. He turned around and saw none other than Fang looking straight into his eyes.
Kai’s eyebrows furrowed as he looked around. Then, he pointed to himself as if asking Fang if he was pertaining to him.
Fang merely nodded, making Kai even more confused. Meanwhile, Minyu smiled at him before saying something and walking off with his parents.

Kai’s teammates were about to call for him, but they saw Fang walking toward him.
Lina tilted her head to the side in confusion. The two of them didn’t seem close, so it was a surprise to see them together.
"Let them be," she said with a soft smile. "Let’s wait outside for him."
The others nodded and left Kai with Fang.
As Fang stood in front of him, Kai continued to feel skeptical. As far as he knew, the two of them didn’t have any interactions in his new body.
"Fang," Kai respectfully said.
Fang mirrored his action, his expression neutral.
The two of them were stuck in awkward silence for a while, none of them knowing how to start the conversation.
With that, Kai cleared his throat and looked away.
"You…called for me," he hesitantly said.
Fang finally smirked, crossing his arms in front of his chest. He continued to stay silent, making Kai feel even more awkward.
Then, he finally spoke.
"Huolan has changed," he said, capturing Kai’s attention.
Kai turned to him with raised eyebrows, silently asking what he meant by his statement.
Fang let out a small sigh before he continued.
"I just thought you might be curious," Fang started off. "My brother talked to me before the school year started, asking me to convince my parents to let him go to school."
"Minyu always thought I didn’t want him to go to Huolan because I was ashamed of him—because I didn’t want others to know I have a disabled brother. However, that wasn’t the case."
"I know how bad Huolan could get—and how the policies aren’t really suited well for people who are…different," he continued.
Kai’s frown deepened. He still didn’t understand why Fang was telling him all of these things.
"So, I made him stay away from Huolan."
"However," he continued. "Something happened, or I guess someone happened to have changed it for the better."
"That guy," he started off, chuckling to himself. "He always spoke his mind, you know? He was quiet most of the time, but he wasn’t afraid to show his real emotions. He was a cool guy, but people failed to see that."
"When he died, however, it seemed like everyone’s eyes were opened to the truth—how he was a good friend, a good student, and most importantly, a good playmaker," Fang continued, staring directly into Kai’s eyes.
Kai’s breath got caught in the back of his throat. He still didn’t know why Fang was telling him these things; but in the back of his mind, he already had a hunch.
"He changed our school for the better," he smiled, making Kai breathe deeply. "It’s just unfortunate that he wasn’t able to witness it with his own two eyes."
Kai felt his heart squeeze. Then, he evaded Fang’s gaze.

"Why are you telling me these things?" he shyly asked.
"Just because," Fang smirked. "I thought you had the right to know."
There was a knowing look in Fang’s eyes. At first, he couldn’t believe it. He wasn’t one to believe in miracles or any of that sort.
However, as he played the game with the Shizi Dogs, there was a nagging feeling in the back of his mind that told him Kai was familiar—that he was someone he had met before.
And when it got to the third quarter, where Kai and his team were reading all of their plays, it seemed like everything snapped into place.
Kaiden Tian.
Fang still couldn’t comprehend how it could happen. However, he believed it. It couldn’t be anyone else.
He experienced some transference to Kaiden—one which he regretted a lot. He was frustrated with his situation, and he brought it out on an innocent person.
Fang pretty much ignored him, looked down on him, and didn’t care for his opinion most of the time. However, in that period when he was their waterboy, he realized that Kaiden Tian was a very smart player—and if he had the ability to play, he would be a beast in the court.
Fang listened…even though he didn’t show it.
And that was how he came to a conclusion.
Kaiden Tian was given a second chance.
"What a relief," he muttered, making Kai even more confused.
"What do you mean now?" Kai asked.
Fang smile at him.
’What a relief that you’re alive. I’m glad to be able to play with you now,’ he thought, not wanting to say it out loud.
With that, Fang smirked. "The next time we see each other, I’ll make sure you won’t even move an inch."
Kai scoffed while shaking his head. "I’m looking forward to that."
Then, Fang reached into his pocket, grabbing the item before tossing it toward Kai’s way.
Kai frowned as he caught the item, his eyebrows relaxing when he recognized what it was.
A small yellow notebook.
"W—what’s this?" Kai stammered.
Fang shrugged. "Just giving it to the rightful owner."
And with that, he turned around and walked away from Kai.
