Basketball System: Rebound of the Underdog-Chapter 373: Nothing For Me
Jian thought he had finally met someone interesting—someone who would rile him to the bones.
However, he was proven wrong once again.
How could he even hope for that when Zheng Zhang, one of his greatest opponents, didn’t make him feel such a way when they met again? He was the sole person who made him feel such a way, and it just vanished into thin air.
Kai frowned as Jian dropped the ball to the ground and turned around without saying anything.
He was dumbfounded for a few seconds, wondering if what he had seen was real.
Kai couldn’t be mistaken when he saw that Jian had just recreated the play he executed when he was alone. It seemed like he wasn’t the only one with a ’copying’ skill. However, even then, Jian was unbelievable because he managed to copy so many skills all at once—that is, without even breaking a sweat!
"Wait," Kai said, causing Jian to halt. "One more time."
He couldn’t deny that he was shocked when he realized that Jian had copied him. So, that dulled his reflexes a bit. He didn’t even manage to get close to the ball at all!
Jian chuckled and turned around, staring right into Kai’s eyes.
"Nice meeting you, kid," he said before turning around once more. "Now, I have to leave."
Kai’s frown deepened. "Don’t you want to continue playing?"
Jian stopped in his tracks, but he didn’t bother turning around.
Then, a smirk tugged onto his lips.
"There’s no second chances in basketball. The moment you let the ball go, then that ball learns who his master is."
With that, he finally left Kai, whistling the same tune under his breath.
Meanwhile, Kai pursed his lips as he watched Jian walk away from the court. He followed his movements, tilting his head to the side in confusion.
He was different than what he had imagined.
In front of the media, he was seen as the perfect, well-mannered player. He spoke highly of his skills, but it didn’t come off as boastful. He was just stating facts.
Contrary to Zheng Zhang, who was kind to everyone outside of the court, Jian maintained a professional stance. Your next chapter is on novelbuddy
That was the word Kai could call him—professional.
It seemed like he was older than he actually was.
However, there was one thing Kai had noticed.

The spark in his eyes was long gone. Instead, his eyes were just two black holes—similar to his skills.
Kai sighed as he grabbed the ball and aimed for a shot once more. It made it in effortlessly, causing him to smile.
"What’s your real story, Jian?"

Meanwhile, back on the football field, it seemed like the Shizi Dogs didn’t have plans of returning.
Lina clicked her tongue and looked at her watch.
"Those guys, really," she muttered. "The curfew will come soon."
Just then, someone placed a pink drink next to her, causing her to lift her head.
Suzy stood in front of her in her usual cheerleader uniform. Even though she appeared straight from training, she still looked gorgeous. Sometimes, it made Lina wonder why Kai didn’t accept her confession right away.
It was clear that Suzy Mei was the most attractive girl in their entire school.
"Mind if I sit?" Suzy asked.
Lina pursed her lips and shook her head, looking anywhere but into her eyes.
"They said that Jian showed off some moves," Suzy started off, capturing Lina’s attention.
Her eyes widened as she turned to Suzy. "Really? So, does that mean that the boys are able to witness his skills in real life?"
Suzy nodded with amusement. Then, she let out a little chuckle. "You’re really interested in basketball, huh?"
Lina’s cheeks reddened. "Well, that’s obvious," she muttered. "It’s my favorite sport."
Suzy crossed her arms in front of her chest before leaning against the metal bleachers. She then relaxed, even spreading her legs.
Lina’s eyes widened as she quickly removed her jacket and placed it on her lap.
"Are you insane?" she exclaimed. "Although there aren’t many people around here, there are still people, especially boys, lingering around."
Suzy continued to look at her with amusement. "Thanks," she muttered, arranging the jacket on her lap so it would cover most of her thighs.
Then, she sighed once again.
"Ah, I’m jealous," Suzy said, causing Lina to freeze.
Did she see Lina talking with Kai a while back?
"W—What do you mean?" Lina stammered, avoiding her eyes once more.
Suzy let out a deep breath before repeating her statement. "I’m jealous."
"You have something you’re passionate about."
Lina sighed in relief. However, her brows quickly furrowed when she realized what Suzy had just said.
"You’re jealous of that?" Lina asked.
"Hmm," Suzy hummed while nodding.
Lina let out a chuckle as if she didn’t believe the girl. However, Suzy remained serious, causing her smile to drop.
"Why would you be jealous of that?" Lina muttered. "You’re doing great in your own field. You’re even the captain of the cheerleading team despite not being a senior."
Suzy shrugged. "I’m good at it. That doesn’t mean I’m passionate about it."
Lina still looked confused, so Suzy explained further.
"You know when teachers ask us what we want to be?" she asked.
Lina nodded.
"What do you answer for such questions?"
Lina pursed her lips before responding. "A coach," she said. "Sometimes, I also want to be an anchor or a caster. Just something related to basketball."
Suzy smiled and looked into the distance.
"Well, I’ve never known the answer to that," Suzy said, playing with her fingers.
Lina looked down at Suzy’s hands and frowned. She actually seemed…nervous about this conversation.
"I don’t know what I want to become."
"We’re asked that for most of our years, and although I’ve put a lot of thought into it, I just can’t seem to find the real answer."
"So, I just went with cheerleading since other people told me I would suit it—that I would be good at it. However, it still doesn’t answer the question for me."
"I know that I am young," she continued. "I don’t have to have my life figured out at this point, but I just can’t help but think—what if there’s nothing for me in this world?"
Lina listened to her intently, seeing a different side to the girl that was always deemed as ’pretty’ and ’talented.’
"I never knew what I wanted, never knew what made me happy."
"However," she continued, looking into Lina’s eyes.
"For a moment, even for a brief moment, Kai made me feel like I want something."
