Barbaric Spouse, Descry the Night's Lure-Chapter 217: Scene CCXVII
Indifferent to the coldness she wanted to convey, Jollveld did not mind the sarcastic reply. Proceeding to tell what was left. — “... His absence will be long. Months... maybe more... it could take him years to solve what the earth is scheming and finaly allow him to return... I promised Aslak to protect and care for your well being during his absence. Therefore... even though my falling into madness is not of concern to you... if there is any concern about your stay here, do lose them all. To me, you are part of my family and blood now... I am to keep the promise made to my Cousin and brother.”
“... I appreciate it.”
“...”
The lids of the woman had already lowered to ponder blankly on the information the King had shared. Lost in the time unreasonbly passing by, for the supositions while ignorant of the whole circumstances were confirmed in their entirety.
‘... Years... It could take him years to return if the earth has mercy...’
A painful throb then squeezed her heart keeping the air useless in her chest as anguish enhanced. Muttering to the King some unconcious inquires an unsettled soul could not hide.
“... that day... everything he was keeping...?”
“Hm? Ah... Yes, Aslak had many things he wanted to tell you... He was to explain the roots of all of it.”
“...”
“... Although I don’t know every single bit of the things he wanted to express, if you wish I could tell you what I know.”
At such offering, Ewelina’s head straightened, meeting Jollveld’s straightfoward eyes, ready to tell if desired.
Nevertheless, her silence was maintained for a second as her blank mind contemplated on the offering, ultimately following the wants of her soul.
“What he was to tell... I am to remain ignorant of it.”
“Why. Don’t you know that as much of a strong savage he is, it is not certain that he is to return. Will you stay ignorant even though he could not survive to tell it?”
“... I am enraged. Deeply hurt... So much I search for motives to hate the man... King Jollveld.” — Harsh in her sincerity, Ewelina did not waver to tell her current sentiments. — “Nonetheless...”
“...!”
“I am a woman... married to that barbaric man..... Keeping ignorant shall be my sacrifice so a return is allowed to him.” — Selfish, the ache of her heart released numb tears again from the woman’s hues, who acted indifferent even as surprise was visible in the king witnessing the scene. — “I shall listen properly to the man himself once he is back and before my eyes.”
“... Are you sure?”
“... Nothing is certain. Neither his return nor my learning of the truth... that is how it is to be.” — Oddly enough, her soul felt peaceful with such convictions. Losing quickly the light lift of her corners she naturally drew as she conveyed the determination to the king, to now tell what had been decided before coming to his presence. — “Now, after conversing these matters with yourself. There is a request I want to ask and it is solely in the king to grant.”
“A request you say?... If it is under my power, I shall see to it to be granted.”
“Although you have conveyed your copromise to keep myself safe during his-... my spouse’s absence... I wish to depart from your palace, to the lands where I was born at.”
“... You want to leave? There is no way, woman.”
“... There are a few matters I would like to do while on my own... Visiting the home of my mother is one I believe will help my dying spirit, your Majesty.”
“Hah... now you call me Titles when you are aware this petition is not to my liking.”
“...”
Observing her unfazed grace, Jollveld noticed how the tears she allowed to fall dried up on her skin, standing composed and solemn while lowering her gaze in a request.
“Be aware that no one is to welcome you at those lands... none of those that pertained to the house are part of the living anymore.”
“... I am aware that Cole and his wife are long dead. Nonetheless, there are still few others remaining.”
“I was talking about your step sister.” — Suddenly and indifferent, the king informed. — “Lady Dina is not... in a condition to see light ever again. Much less continue to carry the Orteu’s name although no hint of that blood was within her.”
“... What do you mean? What happened to Dina?”
Taking a moment, Jollveld’s demeanour searched for the will within himself to tell the destiny Dina met at her husband’s sentence. Sighing frustrated, for the conversation was not what he had planned when summoning the Archduchess.
“These are the reasons why I told you to take a seat... The events in that feast involved many, Ewelina... It wasn’t only the Princess that was punished.Lady Dina, daughter of Cole your step father was also punished for her conspirations against you.”
“... What kind of punishment...”
“... She is not to ever walk on her own. Solely satisfy your curiosity knowing this... Aslak... that day, he sought punishment from those that harmed you... He knows well his doings were the cause yet those that acted viciously were not let alone.”
“... Then, given the situation, with more reasons I am to return to the lands of my parents. Do allow me, Your Sovereignty. Send myself with the guard, knight or troop you deem proper... Yet allow myself to return and build gain the house of my dear Mother.”
“Doesn’t that mean you are to leave your husband? You know I won’t aid you with that.”
“I am not leaving him.” — Severe, she corrected the Royal. — “I am solely rescuing my roots. Once that is done... I am to wait for the spouse’s return.”
*******
— I am to consider this request... yet there is no word yet said about it. —
‘... He is to agree...’ — Ewelina lightly smiled while recalling the avoidance of the King’s eyes while making the last statement. — ‘The softness of his heart is too apparent...’
The many yet little things she got to learn thanks to Jollveld roamed her head while her way to the chambers was made.
There was not much energy in the woman. The information learned had only enhanced her conflict about the events and desicions herself and her spouse had taken. However, unlike before, Ewelina’s many questions had found a reason to remain numb within herself.
