Back to the 80s: Raising my Wolfy Boyfriend-Chapter 35: The Gu Family’s Obstruction
"Jin girl is making something to eat."
The old man spoke, continuing his steps towards the kitchen without pause.
In the kitchen, Gu Jin had already sliced the pig head meat and placed it all in a large basin, pouring in the broth from the pot.
The basin held nearly twenty pounds of braised pig head meat.
"Yo! What delicious thing is Jin girl making?"
Chen Hong stepped past her daughter standing at the doorway and entered the kitchen.
Gu Jin turned around to see her aunt coming in and stepped aside: "I’m making braised pig head; I want to take it to the county town to sell."
Chen Hong, initially intending to taste the braised pork in the basin, changed her expression upon hearing her words.
"What did you say?!"
Her expression was as if she were about to eat someone, as if Gu Jin had said something utterly unforgivable.
Gu Jin looked at the old man entering the kitchen, the uncle, and the siblings Gu Jiajie and Gu Minmin. She repeated again, "I want to take these things to the county town to sell."
The Gu family displayed stern expressions upon hearing her words, except for Gu Jiajie, whose expression was peculiar, with a complex, concealed gaze at Gu Jin.
The usually honest and simple uncle wore a serious expression upon hearing Gu Jin’s words, unable to help speaking: "Jin girl, these words can’t be said. This is speculation and profiteering, which is punishable by death."
Gu Jin smiled brightly: "Uncle, it’s not as severe as it used to be. Hua Country now supports people increasing their income, as long as we don’t do illegal trade, nothing will happen."
"That still won’t do!" Chen Hong shouted.
"If people in the village find out, what will they think of us? This matter would make them point fingers at us! No, absolutely not!"
The old man’s face didn’t look good, and this time he didn’t speak up for Gu Jin.
Speculation and profiteering is not a joke; a few years back, someone from the neighboring village did some speculation in the county and reportedly was executed immediately, a single peanut shell and they were gone.
Seeing the expressions of everyone, the smile on Gu Jin’s face disappeared: "I am definitely going to sell these goods. Many people are setting up stalls in the county town now, especially at the bus station where you can rent a stall. If I have the money, I will surely rent one.
I plan to go to high school in Wanhai City in the second half of the year and take Xiao An with me. We will need a lot of money for school, so no one should stop me; I need to earn money to go to school.
In a couple of years, Hua Country will greatly support people in doing small businesses, and by then, many people from Hua Country will dive into business. I promise nothing will happen, and I will disguise myself well so no one will recognize me. If you still disagree out of fear of being looked down upon, Xiao An and I can move out."
This era regards setting up a stall and doing business as speculation and profiteering, labeling one a profiteer, no matter how much money you make, you will be despised.
But what they don’t realize is that this is the best era for making money; if one has ability and brains, it’s easy to rise swiftly.
How many tycoons of the future didn’t seize the opportunity of this golden era?
So Gu Jin would not give up setting up a stall.
"Do you still want to go to the city for school? Do you know how much that costs? Even if you set up a stall, you won’t earn enough!"
Though Chen Hong lived in Qingshan Village, she often heard gossip from the village women and naturally knew that studying in the city could cost a fortune.
It’s rumored to be several thousand; she hadn’t seen that much money in her entire life.
Hearing Gu Jin say she wants to study in the city, she thought this child must be dreaming without waking up, being overly fanciful.
