Back to the 70s: My Childhood Sweetheart Spoils Me Rotten-Chapter 713 - 715: Joining
The Gong Brothers were startled to see the kids, it was truly terrifying.
Gong Tao pulled Cai Meina to the side, "Why didn’t you make something nice for them."
"I did." Cai Meina was quite displeased with her husband for blindly blaming her without understanding the situation. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"You don’t know how much they’ve endured in the Northeast." Cai Meina recounted the kids’ experiences in the Northeast.
No way, Gong Tao was dumbfounded, "You’re saying Jiaxin actually wants to skip a grade?"
"Yeah, Ni Zi and the others have skipped a grade, how could Jiaxin not be anxious?" Cai Meina knew a bit about why Gong Jiaxin was gritting her teeth to insist on skipping.
"Ni Zi is better than Jia Ming, you think Cuihua wouldn’t have thoughts about it? If they excel more than Jiaxin, you think she wouldn’t be anxious?" Cai Meina understood Miao Cuihua’s strong personality. If her two children weren’t doing better than Gong Ruini and the others, wouldn’t she be anxious?
Although she might not lash out at Gong Zhuang, with Gong Jiaxin, she might not show a good face.
Gong Tao actually believed it wasn’t necessary to push the kids to this extent, but Cai Meina wasn’t wrong either. If they don’t grit their teeth and catch up now, the gap will only grow bigger.
"Well, let it be. We can’t hold Ni Zi and the others back from pursuing progress for them." Gong Tao wouldn’t stop his daughter from advancing for his niece’s sake. "Actually, if it weren’t for Guang Ran, Ni Zi might already be in the same grade as her brother."
The daughter has already been grievances enough, she can’t endure more. "I’ll talk to Gong Zhuang about it."
Gong Jiaxin and her brother saw Gong Zhuang’s excitement; they hadn’t heard he was coming to Beijing before they set off. "Dad, how come you’re here?"
"Welcome my brave warriors." Gong Zhuang tightly embraced the two kids and carefully scrutinized his daughter for a long time. "Jiaxin, Dad doesn’t want you to suffer so much for others. You know Ni Zi is actually more diligent than you."
"Moreover, they had long prepared to skip grades." Gong Zhuang had heard from Gong Tao that Gong Ruini had started studying high school subjects long ago, which meant skipping grades was no issue for Ni Zi.
But what came easily to others was not a mere pressure for his own kids.
"Dad has discussed with your mom, your second uncle and his wife are college graduates, while your mom and I only finished junior high. And the study atmosphere you’re in isn’t as good as Ni Zi and the others." Though his daughter hadn’t complained, Gong Zhuang knew it wasn’t his wife pressing his daughter that made her so dedicated.
Gong Zhuang, being busy with his own work and business, hadn’t thought much about it. Hearing his wife incessantly chatter about Ni Zi and the others’ excellent grades hadn’t registered deeply with him.
As parents, saying other kids have better grades was nothing new, but he hadn’t considered the pressure it put on his own daughter.
"Dad, I won’t cry." Gong Jiaxin listened to Gong Zhuang’s words, and any dissatisfaction in her heart dissipated.
"Jiaxin, it’s okay." Seeing his daughter sobbing, Gong Zhuang understood, "Alright, don’t cry. In the future, follow your own path."
"Dad, I’m okay." Gong Jiaxin wiped her tears. "I’ll work hard. Even though it’s tough, I’ll strive hard. I won’t let dad lose face."
"Yes, Dad really isn’t too stressed." Gong Jiaming stated lightly.
Gong Tao, standing beside, felt relieved that Gong Zhuang wasn’t forcing the kids to study hard. If Gong Zhuang insisted on pressuring Gong Jiaxin to study hard, he wouldn’t let him off the hook.
Studying is an ongoing journey. If Gong Jiaxin gets scared and loses enthusiasm, no amount of effort later can make them love learning.
"Brother." Gong Zhuang watched as the kids played together again, calling out to Gong Tao standing behind him. "Thank you."
Thank him? Gong Tao pinched his nose, "Thank me for what? I still worried you’d feel I was meddling."
Getting annoyed with his elder brother’s meddling, Gong Zhuang dared not. "By the way, I heard Cai Ming plans to go into the Northeast rice business."
Coming to Beijing, aside from picking up the kids, he was addressing matters his daughter mentioned. He thought about this for a long time back home and didn’t want to miss out. But, since his second brother wasn’t directly in charge, he had to feel out the situation.
Knowing Gong Zhuang wouldn’t want to miss a good opportunity, he was surprised it came this quickly. However, he was surprised, "But I heard from Rui Wen that Jiaxin is doing well, although the basics aren’t stable. Even in middle school, she still needs to look at sixth-grade books."
Gong Tao worried that once Gong Jiaxin got into middle school, she would stop reviewing elementary books, and thus started reminding Gong Zhuang.
Gong Zhuang nodded continuously; he didn’t understand much about these nuances, but his second brother did! Compared to him, his second brother really understood, so Gong Zhuang listened.
"That’s good. By the way, the rice thing, I’m not involved, I’ll let Cai Ming speak with you." Since it wasn’t his deal, Gong Tao didn’t want to involve himself, leaving the negotiations to Gong Zhuang and Cai Ming. As for how the talks go, it was their issue.
As long as they weren’t greedy, there shouldn’t be a problem.
All Gong Zhuang wanted was an introduction, he never imagined Gong Tao stepping in, despite being his elder brother. That relationship wasn’t as tight as his bond with Cai Ming.
But Gong Zhuang was puzzled as to how Cai Ming had so much capital for a business, unless it was supported by his second sister-in-law. But, he dared not ask his second brother.
Everyone knew the great relationship between the second brother and Cai Meina; if the second brother turned around and mentioned it to his sister-in-law, he’d be in an unfavorable position.
"You might meet someone." Gong Tao didn’t intend to tell Gong Zhuang, but it was inevitable, nothing to hide.
Meet someone, is there a problem with the person? Gong Tao’s hesitation was all visible to Gong Zhuang. He didn’t know why his second brother seemed so torn—maybe he didn’t want him to meet this person?
If it was really tough, he wouldn’t see them. Gong Zhuang surely wouldn’t stupidly offend his second brother over business; in any case, there’d be opportunities to benefit by sticking with him.
Gong Tao waved his hand, "It’s Cai Ming’s girlfriend. They’re getting married at the end of the year, don’t mention when you return. I’m not sure if Cai Family will be informed."
After all, on the last visit, Cai Family schemed in various ways. If they knew Wan Qiweng’s family’s situation, who knows what disgusting things they’d do? To avoid getting tangled, it’s best left unsaid.
Ah, it’s Cai Ming’s girlfriend. Gong Zhuang hadn’t expected Cai Ming to date a girl involved in the business—not because he looked down on business people, but he thought Cai Ming should be worthier?
Could it be Cai Ming was keen on family prospects, hence casually picking someone?
Gong Zhuang subtly expressed he’d wait till Cai Ming’s marriage and give a generous gift, without needlessly lowering himself.
Gong Tao was amused by Gong Zhuang’s consideration. His younger brother was overthinking, "She’s also a college graduate."
"Her family’s conditions are decent. You’ll understand when you meet her."
Ah, really? Gong Zhuang hadn’t expected Cai Ming’s partner would be so good. But thinking more, it made sense—even if faced with family troubles, it had no connection with theirs. If the Cai Family elders didn’t know, they wouldn’t erupt to cause trouble.
Even if they did come out to cause trouble, would Cai Ming be easy to deal with? Cai Ming recalled past incidents caused by Cai Family, which definitely had Cai Ming’s touch. If Cai Family didn’t stir trouble, there’d be benefits; if they did, there’d merely be a good show to watch.
