Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Widespread Infamy

Su Shuochi shot his friend an appreciative glance. ’You really get it. As expected of a team captain.’

Xie Zhuoyu thought back, ’Of course. Didn’t Director Dong always spoil that scumbag brother-in-law of his?’

’Your father-in-law and grandpa are really something else, making it so even Director Dong doesn’t dare to shelter his precious brother-in-law anymore.’

Su Shuochi shrugged. ’I don’t know about them being formidable. I just know my wife is.’

Xie Zhuoyu wanted to laugh uproariously. His friend seemed perfectly normal, but it was clear that his Little Sister-in-law was no simple woman.

And the fact that the Gu Family could actually make the high-and-mighty Dong Jianping eat humble pie was incredibly satisfying.

Others might be afraid of Dong Jianping, but Xie Zhuoyu certainly wasn’t. Everyone in the residential compound knew the man was henpecked and let his brother-in-law get away with all sorts of evil.

Seeing the two young men looking so animated, Dong Jianping snapped, "Xie Zhuoyu, watch your attitude! Su Shuochi, you’re not needed here anymore. You can leave."

"If you need me to confront anyone, just call. As for those who gave false testimony, lock them up for a few days. Teach them that perjury is a crime."

"We will enforce the law impartially. You acted in self-defense, so there’s no need to call you back in," Xie Zhuoyu said in a strictly professional tone.

Dong Jianping shot Su Shuochi a displeased look. He was dying to retort, ’Do we need you to teach us how to do our jobs?’

But in the end, he said nothing. It was mainly because Su Shuochi’s gaze was so cold it sent a shiver down his spine.

Su Shuochi saw Dong Jianping hesitate, looking like he wanted to say something. Without a backward glance, he turned his wheelchair and left.

’Hurt my wife and still expect me to show mercy? Not a chance. Huang Ya and his thugs are going to lose at least a layer of skin before I’m satisfied.’

After his wife’s class, they would visit Old Sir Xie at the Xie family home. While there, he would tell Xie Zhuoyu to give Huang Ya and his gang a proper lesson.

Su Shuochi didn’t yet know a high-ranking official from the Imperial City was coming to visit. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have just settled for teaching them a lesson.

If he had known, Su Shuochi would have definitely used the opportunity to have Huang Ya and his gang dealt with permanently.

When Second Brother Gu rode his bike home, Mr. Su and Su’s mother had already left to sell their cold noodles, while his own father, Mr. Gu, was waiting anxiously.

"Jingtai, where have you been? What took so long? And where are Jiaojiao and Shuo Ci?" Mr. Gu asked, his voice filled with anxiety.

"Dad, sorry to keep you waiting. Jiaojiao went to her class, and my brother-in-law is still out looking at houses. We’re about to go set up our cart and sell savory Chinese crepes."

The bruises on Second Brother Gu’s body felt much better after he applied the medicine Gu Jiaojiao had given him. But the bruising hadn’t been fully worked out, so it still ached when he made any large movements.

"Cheng Zhou, Ruixian and I will go help too," Old Sir Gu offered. He and Geng Ruixian hadn’t gone for their usual walk that morning.

He was worried they’d hear gossip about his adopted granddaughter, and that his eldest grandson wouldn’t be able to handle it and would faint again.

If Jinghua fainted when Shuo Ci and Jiaojiao weren’t around, the old men wouldn’t even know how to find the hospital.

"Grandpa, you and Uncle Geng will get tired if you stand too long. Why don’t you bring a couple of stools to sit on?" Second Brother Gu said cheerfully.

It was such a blessing that his grandpa’s health was improving. Jiaojiao was incredible; he had once been sure his grandpa was a goner.

Geng Ruixian was quite excited at the prospect of helping his friend at the food cart. "Jingtai, will bringing stools be too much trouble?"

"Not at all. The wheels on this cart roll smoothly, so a little extra weight is no problem."

"Cheng Zhou, you and Jingtai go on ahead," Geng Ruixian said. "Uncle Gu and I are slow walkers, so don’t let us hold you up."

Old Sir Gu wanted to retort, ’You’re the slow one, not me,’ but he held his tongue.

Instead, he chuckled and agreed, "Cheng Zhou, you all go on ahead. We’re slow walkers."

Gu Jingtai quickly put two chairs on the cart and started pushing it, ignoring the pain from his injuries.

In the back of his mind, as long as he could earn money, no amount of pain mattered.

Watching his grandfather and Uncle Geng go off to help, Eldest Brother Gu felt another wave of self-blame wash over him.

"Jinghua, your main priority right now is to focus on your health. Don’t overthink things. Jiaojiao said you can recover to your peak condition and even return to the military."

Grandpa Gu looked at his eldest grandson and spoke earnestly.

"Grandpa, don’t worry. I understand. I’ll stay home and help Mom prepare vegetables. I won’t get lost in my thoughts."

"It’s good that you’re thinking this way. Don’t let Jiaojiao’s efforts go to waste. She has used many precious medicinal herbs on us."

"I’ll remember, Grandpa. I promise," Gu Jinghua said with conviction.

The two of them, grandfather and grandson, had a tacit understanding not to mention Sheng Yueyue, acting as if they hadn’t heard any of the gossip the day before.

"You can also walk around the yard a little. Help water the vegetables," Grandpa Gu added as he left.

They left the courtyard and started walking slowly, following the path from memory. "Ruixian, you still remember the way! That’s impressive."

"I can remember a short walk like this. When I was a boy, I followed my father to fight the Japanese invaders. After I returned to the country, I led soldiers into battle myself."

"In two months, when we go back to the Imperial City, we’ll help you look for your father. Ruixian, you need to focus on your recovery too."

"Don’t you worry, Uncle Gu. Jiaojiao’s medicine is top-notch. I’m already feeling much better."

"Jiaojiao is going to Imperial Capital Medical University in September. Ruixian, you should come to the city with us then."

"With Jiaojiao’s medical skills, getting into the university should be a piece of cake, but admissions at Imperial Capital Medical University are based on grades across all subjects," Geng Ruixian said, a little worried.

"Haha... it doesn’t matter if Jiaojiao can’t pass the exam. I have a recommendation slot I can use."

"Oh, that’s right! How could I have forgotten about that? Haha... In that case, I’ll definitely go with you all."

Talking about the hopeful future put both men in high spirits. A sudden breeze felt refreshing to both body and soul.

The shade from the trees lining the road blocked out the harsh afternoon sun, and they walked a long distance without breaking a sweat.

"You old coot—you’re still not dead? Are you waiting here to ambush me? I don’t owe you anything, so get the hell away from me!"

Just as the two were deep in their cheerful conversation, an angry shout startled Geng Ruixian so badly that he nearly fell over.

"Who do you think you are? Do you own this public road? Are people not allowed to walk here?" 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Old Sir Gu looked at the furious Sheng Yueyue, and his good mood instantly evaporated. He didn’t hesitate to fire back.

’He’d never mistreated her, yet this ungrateful wretch was actually cursing him to die.’

"Anyone else can walk here. But a pig feeder from the farm like you isn’t worthy of setting foot on this road."

Sheng Yueyue, already seething with anger, saw Old Sir Gu and immediately assumed he was there waiting to confront her.

After breakfast, she had gone to find He Aijun. It had been her home in her past life, so she knew the way well.

But the He family had pretended not to recognize her, feigning ignorance and asking who she was. She had no choice but to announce her name haughtily.

To her surprise, not only did the He family fail to bow down in worship, but they actually burst out laughing. Her mother-in-law from her past life had even said with a smirk...

"Well, look who it is. If it isn’t the infamous ’true heiress’ of the Sheng Family from our very own compound."

Her sister-in-law from her past life, who was just leaving for school with her bag on her back, had even asked her maliciously,

"Don’t tell me you got dumped by Song Zijin and came to our He Family to take it out on my second brother."
