Baby System: I'm the Beast World's Only Hope!-Chapter 35: Episode : Architecture!
So the pack was very sick. Was this really something I could do?
Roxy recoiled.
This was more than her payroll. She never studied medicine, so how was she going to solve the issues of the female wolves?
This was going to be a very hard one.
She looked around the fortress. The walls were made of woven living roots and grey stone. It looked cool, sure, very ’druid-chic’, but the roots held moisture. The ground was muddy, and the air trapped inside the walls was stagnant.
They were literally trapping themselves inside a damp.
Not feeding well, and wolves didn’t do well in cramped spaces.
"What happened to living outside the swamp?" Roxy muttered, looking at the moss growing on the side of a sleeping hut. "You are sleeping in the mud, coming home wet, and sleeping in wet furs in a wet house."
How were they even breathing comfortably?
"It is to protect ourselves from the dragons," Kaelen said, coming up behind her. "And the moon goddess protects this place."
"You are one with a yeast infection, Kaelen!" Roxy snapped, spinning around. Hoping to knock some sense into this big bad wolf.
But she knew that would be seeking death, especially since he hadn’t truly opened up his heart to her; it wouldn’t be that easy for Kaelen as it was for Zarek.
Oh... how I miss my overgrown lizard.
The entire courtyard went silent. Vorn choked on air. Each time Roxy spoke, she used foreign words. He doesn’t know how she was able to speak their language, but it amazes him when he hears words he doesn’t know about.
"Excuse me?" Kaelen blinked.
"Your women aren’t infertile because they’re weak," Roxy declared, her voice rising so the whole pack could hear. "They’re sick! You live in a swamp! Look at this place!"
She kicked a wall of woven roots. Water seeped out.
"Mold! Fungus! Bacteria!" Roxy shouted, pointing at the green slime. "You think this makes you tough? It makes you sick. A baby can’t grow in a body that is fighting off trench foot twenty-four seven!"
Kaelen looked offended. "These roots have sheltered us for generations!"
"And for generations, your pups have been dying," Roxy hit him where it hurt. "Do you want to argue with tradition, or do you want to fill a nursery?"
Kaelen shut his mouth. He looked at Sera, shivering in her wet furs. He looked at the damp walls.
"What do we do?" he asked quietly.
Roxy grinned. It was a sharp, predatory grin that made Vorn take a step back. "We are going to move out of this place," she announced.
She opened her System Interface.
[Unlocked: Tier 3 Construction Tools]
[Item: Two-Man Crosscut Saw - 1,000 LP]
[Item: Box of Industrial Nails (Infinite) - 500 LP]
[Item: Blueprint - Insulated Log Cabin - 2,000 LP]
"We can’t just move, Luna!" Vorn suddenly barked, feeling triggered, and Roxy snapped her eyes to him.
"Do not shout at your Luna, Vorn!" Kaelen barked in warning, making the Beta wolf shudder in fear, leaning back.
Roxy crossed her hands and then approached the edgy wolf.
"I trust that you want a little pup to call your own, right?" She asked, her voice soft and welcome. Vorn gritted his teeth, his eyes still hardened, and reluctantly nodded. Every wolf that trodden around the pack wanted a pup to call their own.
Roxy smiled, her face softening, "Then we need to move. This place may be safe, but it’s too damp for a pup to grow in."
She tried to reason, and slowly Vorn’s eyes cleared with understanding.
Seeing that he had caved in, Roxy nodded her head and straightened, clapping her hands and calling their attention.
"We are done with roots," Roxy declared. "We are done with sleeping in the dirt. We are going to build houses. Real houses. With floors. With roofs that don’t leak. With dry timber."
She purchased the items. A massive saw fell onto the mud with a heavy thud, shocking the wolves that stood around, their eyes turning to slits in fear as their hair stood on end.
But Roxy calmed them down.
"Calm down," She reassured them. "I just had to plead with the moon goddess." She lied, and surprisingly enough, they believed her, except Kaelen, who furrowed his brows at her words.
"Vorn! Rax!" Roxy pointed at the saw. "Pick that up. Kaelen, grab an axe. We are going to the Iron-Wood."
"The Iron-Wood?" Vorn scoffed. "The wood is too hard and can’t be clawed."
"That’s why we have technology, genius," Roxy said, tapping the saw. "This isn’t a claw. It’s tempered steel. Now, move! If we don’t have the first foundation laid by sunset, no one gets food!"
The threat of no food was more powerful than any Alpha command.
The wolves scrambled.
This was really going to be hard for someone like me, who didn’t study Engineering, but let’s see how the system was going to help me out this time.
And I hope the reward would be worth working my butt off.
Perhaps I could go back home to earth.
[Access Denied.]
True, I couldn’t leave Baby Drax or my soon-to-be babies here in the beast world, so I should take them along with me.
[TheWorldbuildingGod nods in approval, saying that it was finally time to see some architecture by your hands. He praises you for having a lot of talents.]
Maths and Engineering weren’t among my skills, so hold off with your praises. I do not know how we are going to do this.
[TheMotheroftheWorld beats her chest, saying she has faith in you.]
[TheSassGoddess cheers you on, go girl!!!]
[TheFinancialDefender wishes you luck in claiming big rewards so you can patronize his store.]
Roxy’s heart warmed, not believing the gods could be this sweet.
Though there are times she wanted to give them a good spanking.
Kaelen scooped Roxy onto his arm, making her sit on his shoulder as they matched out of the thick fortress. They may not be done with the work today, so the Fortress would serve as their temporary home.
They matched through the woods until they arrived at a clearing where they stopped.
The smaller animals scrambled away from sight, afraid that these big wolves would use them as prey next, but no, the wolves were focused on the female sitting on Kaelen’s shoulder.
She had just used one day bossing around the big wolves of the north.
"Okay, wolves, let’s get to cutting the trees!" She broke out, a huge smile on her lips. "Girls! Let’s get to weeding off this entire area."
She gestured at the thick grass.
"We can do this!"
