Chapter 283: Episode 281: The packs combined effort.

What a beautiful sight.

She stood frozen at the top of the staircase, Tanith resting comfortably on her hip. Torian stepped up right beside her, his massive hands gripping the wooden railing as he stared down at the living room.

Every single flat surface, the tables, the rugs, the fireplace mantle, and even the windowsills, was completely covered in perfectly tied food.

Thousands upon thousands of massive, waterproof green leaves had been expertly folded and secured with twine, each one containing a hot, hearty portion of chicken, rice, and the desperately needed Wither-Rot cure.

The sheer volume of the food wraps was staggering. It looked like a sea of green spanning from the kitchen archway all the way to the front doors, leaving only a few narrow, treacherous footpaths to navigate the room.

But it wasn’t it that made Roxy’s heart swell until it physically ached. It was the architects of that miracle.

Slumped across the remaining, unoccupied furniture were the most terrifying Alpha Kings of the Beast World, completely and utterly defeated by a combination of culinary exhaustion and their own children.

Kaelen was passed out on the loveseat, his head tipped back and his mouth slightly open. Sprawled directly across his broad chest was Axel, the little boy’s fluffy tail hanging limply off the edge of the cushions, softly snoring in perfect synchronization with his father.

On the thick rug near the hearth, Syris was completely unconscious. His massive emerald coils acting as a giant mattress. Curled up right in the absolute center of those coils, using hir father’s cool tail as a blanket, was Onyx, sleeping the deep, dreamless sleep of a very hardworking pup.

Ren was leaning awkwardly against the base of the largest sofa, his red hair an absolute mess. The Fox Beastman’s arms were wrapped securely around Iris. The little wolf-girl was dead to the world, her face planted firmly against Ren’s collarbone.

A very distinct, shiny smear of chicken broth was painted across her cheek and drooling slightly onto Ren’s expensive shirt, but the Fox didn’t seem to care in the slightest.

And finally, on the large sofa itself, sleeping entirely on his own, was Zarek.

He had one massive arm draped over his eyes, his long legs stretched out and hanging off the armrest. He looked completely exhausted, his chest rising and falling in slow, heavy, furnace-like rhythms. Even in his sleep, his brow was slightly furrowed, as if his subconscious was still calculating how much firewood was needed to keep the cauldrons boiling.

He didn’t seem to care before.

While she had been sleeping, her mates and her children had worked themselves to the absolute bone to make sure her plan succeeded.

A profound, overwhelming sense of pride washed over Roxy. "They finished it," Torian murmured beside her, his deep voice laced with genuine respect as he looked at his exhausted brothers-in-arms.

"Yeah," Roxy sniffled softly, a watery smile breaking across her face. "They really did."

Adjusting Tanith on her hip, Roxy began her descent down the wooden stairs. Torian followed closely behind, his sharp feline eyes scanning the floor to ensure she didn’t trip over a stray leaf parcel.

As soon as Roxy’s bare foot touched the bottom step, the subtle shift in the room’s air currents triggered the apex predator on the sofa.

Zarek was a notoriously light sleeper, his draconic instincts always keeping one ear tuned for danger. His massive arm shifted off his face. His eyes snapped open, glowing fiercely in the dim light for a fraction of a second before they found Roxy standing at the base of the stairs.

Zarek pushed himself up with a groan, his joints popping as he sat forward. He ran a large, calloused hand over his rough face, blinking the sleep from his eyes as he stepped carefully around a towering stack of food wraps to reach her.

"You are awake," Zarek said drowsily, his voice a low, gravelly rumble that sent a familiar shiver down her spine. He reached out, his hot hands gently cupping her elbows.

"I am," Roxy whispered in a soft, soothing voice, not wanting to disturb the peaceful silence of the room. She leaned forward, pressing a sweet, lingering kiss to his stubbled jaw. "I am so sorry for waking you, my dragon."

Zarek let out a tired huff, his hands sliding around her waist to pull her flush against his burning chest, carefully avoiding crushing Tanith. "You could never apologize for being in my sight, Roxann. How do you feel?"

"I feel wonderful, thanks to the sleep," Roxy assured him, brushing a stray lock of dark hair from his forehead. She looked up at his heavy, exhausted eyes. "But you look like you just fought a war. You made so much food... it’s incredible, Zarek. I am so proud of you. But I have got it from here. Go upstairs and take a proper rest in an actual bed."

Zarek frowned, his draconic possessiveness immediately flaring up despite his exhaustion. He looked around the room, taking in the thousands of parcels that still needed to be organized and prepared for transport.

"What about you?" Zarek protested gruffly, his grip tightening on her waist. "You can’t move all this by yourself. You are pregnant. I will stay and help—"

"No, you won’t," Roxy commanded gently but firmly. She reached up and placed a hand flat against his chest. "I am not moving anything heavy. I have Torian. He will help me."

Zarek’s crimson eyes narrowed. He looked over Roxy’s shoulder, locking gazes with the White Tiger standing just a few feet away. Torian puffed his broad chest out, his thick tail giving a slow, arrogant swish, fully prepared to take over the guarding duties.

Zarek grumbled, a deep, highly unhappy sound vibrating in his throat. He hated leaving her with the Tiger, especially right after Torian had secured his legacy, but his body was screaming for the soft furs of the master bed.

"Fine," Zarek capitulated heavily, leaning down to press a hard, claiming kiss to her lips. "Make him do the heavy lifting. I will be upstairs."

Roxy smiled affectionately as she watched the massive Dragon Alpha trudge up the stairs, his broad shoulders slumped with fatigue.

Once Zarek was gone, Roxy turned her attention to the rest of the sleeping pack. The sheer amount of love in her chest felt like it might burst. She navigated the narrow footpaths between the green parcels, moving carefully toward the loveseat first.

She placed a gentle hand on Kaelen’s shoulder. "Kaelen," Roxy whispered.

The Wolf Alpha stirred, his blue eyes opening slowly. He blinked, instantly registering her presence.

"My Queen," Kaelen murmured, his voice incredibly rough.

"You did perfectly," Roxy praised him, kissing his forehead. "Take Axel to the nursery, and then go up to the master bedroom to sleep. Zarek is waiting for you."

Kaelen nodded groggily. He carefully scooped the drooling, sleeping Axel into his arms and stood up, moving silently toward the stairs.

Roxy moved to the floor next, gently shaking Ren’s shoulder. The Fox Beastman woke up with a start, his green eyes wide and slightly panicked before they focused on Roxy.

"Did something happen?" Ren gasped, still half-asleep. "Did I over-chop the carrots?"

"The carrots are perfect, Ren," Roxy giggled softly, tapping his nose. "You did amazing. Take Iris to bed, and then go get some real sleep upstairs."

Ren let out a massive sigh of relief. He shifted his grip on the little wolf-girl, entirely unbothered by the chicken broth smeared across his shirt, and followed Kaelen’s path up the stairs.

Finally, Roxy approached the massive emerald snake. She reached out and lightly trailed her fingers over Syris’s cool, hard scales. The Snake Beastman didn’t jolt awake; his eyes simply slid open, his vertical pupils dilating in the dim light.

"The formula held," Syris hissed softly.

"I know," Roxy smiled brightly. "Thank you, Syris. Take Onyx and go rest."

Syris uncoiled with liquid grace, carefully lifting the sleeping wolf-pup into his arms without waking him, and glided silently out of the living room.

Within minutes, the Manor was quiet once more. The chaotic, heartwarming pile of exhausted fathers and sticky pups had vanished, leaving only the staggering reality of their accomplishment behind.

Roxy stood in the center of the room, Tanith still resting quietly on her hip.

She turned in a slow circle, her violet eyes sweeping over the endless piles of green, leaf-wrapped parcels. There were thousands of them. The sheer logistical magnitude of what they had just created was awe-inspiring, but it was also incredibly daunting.

They had the cure, packaged and ready, but getting it into the hands—and mouths—of paranoid, territorial tribes across the entire continent was a completely different beast to slay.

Roxy let out a long, heavy breath. She walked over to the sofa Zarek had just vacated and sank down onto the cushions, resting Tanith in her lap.

"There is a lot to do..." Roxy muttered, rubbing her temples as her brain began to run a hundred miles a minute.

The soft, heavy thud of Torian’s footsteps approached. The White Tiger Alpha came to stand directly in front of her, his massive frame blocking out the moonlight filtering through the windows.. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Torian knelt down before the sofa, resting his large hands gently on her knees. He looked up at her, his eyes burning with loyalty.

"What would you want me to help you with?" Torian asked, his deep voice a steady, grounding anchor in the quiet room.

Roxy looked at the White Tiger, then raised her green eyes to look around the sprawling, impenetrable sea of food wraps covering her home. She took a deep breath.

"We will have to arrange everything."
