Ascension of The Unholy Immortal-Chapter 295: Old Debt
"Senior, now that the Heaven Reaching Tree is gone, is there any way for me to reach the Divine Level quickly?" Liang asked with a hopeful gaze, his voice tinged with urgency.
The Primordial Runic Ancestor chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "You underestimate the power of the Heaven Reaching Tree," his tone suddenly becoming grave. "Now that the Heaven Reaching Tree has merged with the realm, all living beings will gain enlightenment. Reaching the Divine Level will be just the beginning; I expect that within ten years, one or two beings might even achieve the Cosmic Resonation Realm."
The mere thought of it made Liang draw a sharp breath," One or two Cosmic Resonation Realm beings?"
Cosmic Resonation Realm is equal to the Void Return Realm, a level only few have achieved throughout the history.
The Primordial Runic Ancestor turned his gaze to the horizon, his eyes becoming unfathomably deep. "Two or three million years from now," he murmured, "I foresee this realm evolving into a new domain."
Liang’s eyes widened in wonder. A new domain? Could something like that truly come to pass?
"If you choose to stay here," the Primordial Runic Ancestor continued, fixing Liang with an intense stare, "you could cultivate endlessly. With the growth of living beings, this realm will also expand. However, there’s a catch. For each higher breakthrough, you’ll need to wait for a certain number of beings at the same level to emerge."
The idea intrigued Liang. A realm that grows and evolves with its inhabitants was an entirely new concept to him.
"What do you think? Do you want to stay?" The Primordial Runic Ancestor asked, a mysterious smile playing on his lips.
Liang’s eyes flickered with contemplation before he slowly shook his head. "It’s not that I’m arrogant, but breakthroughs aren’t my primary concern right now. Instead, it’s about seizing opportunities. While staying in this realm might guarantee steady growth, it would be a slow and monotonous journey, at least for me."
The Primordial Runic Ancestor threw back his head and laughed heartily. "Slow and monotonous? That is indeed a fitting description."
Liang’s eyes flickered with surprise upon witnessing the Ancestor’s reaction. He had thought the old sage might be displeased with his refusal.
"You want to reach the Divine Level quickly?" The Primordial Runic Ancestor’s voice carried a mocking edge. "You may not have realized it yet, but your body and soul aren’t the same as before."
"What do you mean by that, senior?" Liang’s brows furrowed in confusion. He could sense he’d undergone some sort of transformation, but its extent eluded him.
Lifting his chin, the Primordial Runic Ancestor’s gaze settled on Liang with an almost paternal pride mixed with sadness. "Previously, you had the aptitude of a Supreme True Spirit Being. Although not bad, it’s hardly remarkable compared to the geniuses from the upper domains. There, your talents would be deemed merely ordinary."
"Supreme True Spirit Being is considered ordinary?" Liang’s eyes narrowed, a mix of disbelief and curiosity tracing his features.
A rueful chuckle escaped the Primordial Runic Ancestor’s lips. "Though I haven’t left this realm in sixty million years, I can sense the world’s changes through runic cultivators. The pace of transformation has been terrifying. Many supreme geniuses have emerged. The weakest among them possess the aptitude of Heavenly Spirit Beings. Among these outstanding individuals, a few even possess the aptitude of a Primordial Spirit being."
Liang’s heart sank. "Primordial Spirit Beings?"
Primordial Beings were the first living entities to emerge in the domain, possessing unrivaled physical prowess and comprehension. Their intimacy with the laws of existence was unparalleled. It was astonishing that individuals with comparable talents began to appear.
Sensing the shift in Liang’s demeanor, the Primordial Runic Ancestor sighed deeply. Even he was taken aback initially by these unbelievable talents, which used to surface once every epoch. But now, to see several of them emerge simultaneously was unprecedented.
"Do not be disheartened," the Primordial Runic Ancestor reassured. "I have elevated your aptitude to a low heavenly spirit grade. When you achieve the seven runes, you will ascend to the divine level. While this can’t rival the supreme geniuses, it places you among ordinary geniuses."
Hearing this, Liang’s mood lightened slightly. Nonetheless, he glanced at the Primordial Runic Ancestor with bewilderment. Why was this venerable being assisting him? Surely it couldn’t be solely because he possessed a drop of his blood?
Noticing the confusion in Liang’s eyes, the Primordial Runic Ancestor sighed again. "I understand what you wish to know."
"If that is the case, could senior provide an answer?" Liang inquired calmly.
The Primordial Runic Ancestor shook his head. "I cannot divulge the full reason." He then turned and began to walk away. "Just consider it as me repaying an old debt."
Before Liang could pose another question, the Primordial Runic Ancestor vanished.
"Repaying an old debt?" Liang mused, pondering the sentiment. Could it be that the Primordial Runic Ancestor owed him something from a past life?
"Who knows? Maybe I am the reincarnation of a supreme Immortal from bygone eras," Liang chuckled, dismissing his musings for the moment.
With the Heaven Reaching Tree now gone, he knew that no other opportunities in the present could rival its significance.
The Primordial Runic Ancestor had mentioned that the tree’s powers were now integrated into the realm itself, meaning any location could hold the tree’s mystical effects.
Even more so, he is now markedly different from before, and he could feel his power has nearly doubled.
Now, he needs a quiet place to cultivate and condense the two remaining runes with meticulous care.
In the following months, for some inexplicable reason, a deep silence permeated the whole realm, as if every living being was cultivating in hushed stillness.
Everyone could sense the change sweeping through the world.
One day, Liang felt a formidable aura surging from the north, only to vanish almost instantly.
However, he was certain of one thing: someone had broken through to the Divine Level before him.
As for who it could be, he had no idea.
A year later, a similar aura emerged from the eastern direction.
Another person had ascended to the Divine Level.
In the subsequent months, three more individuals also achieved the breakthrough. Liang was certain that such an occurrence had never before transpired in the history of the Dong Clan.

Five Divine Level experts, all at once. Liang even suspected that the number would only continue to grow.
Now, only three months remained before the portal would open again.
"Divine Level? What does it mean to be at the Divine Level?" Liang pondered aloud. "Is it just about fusing the seven runes into one rune?"
No, that’s only a part of it. Fusing the runes isn’t a difficult matter, but that’s not the main issue here.
Liang’s eyes flickered with thoughts. To completely step into the Divine Level, one had to fuse the essence with the newly fused rune, then mold the rune into their soul, creating something known as a divine spark.
The more divine sparks one has, the more powerful they become, and the greater their chances of breaking through to the Cosmic Resonation Realm.
Divine sparks are the way runic cultivators embark on their path. These sparks, in time, will evolve into an Origin.
Every law has an Origin: earth origin, water origin, fire origin, and so forth.
Origin represents the pinnacle of understanding, an elevated state that transcends mere knowledge. It embodies the true essence of the path, the ultimate milestone in the journey to enlightenment.
Suddenly, Liang’s eyes snapped open, his gaze unwavering and determined. He had made his decision.
The chaos rune materialized on his forehead, its intricate patterns glowing with an otherworldly light. Suddenly, it leaped into the air and from it, chaotic qi began to swirl and gather in the air. "Affinity Fusion," Liang whispered softly.
Instantly, the chaos qi twisted and contorted with dizzying speed, distorting the very air around it. Liang closed his eyes once again, focusing intently. Gradually, beneath the chaos rune, the outlines of two new runes began to take shape. One rune radiated a blinding light, so intense it seemed otherworldly. The other glowed with a softer, dreamlike light.
This grueling process lasted an entire week. On the seventh day, Liang finally opened his eyes.
Coincidentally, at that very moment, the chaos rune ceased emitting qi and returned to its dormant state, leaving two new runes in its place. Liang’s lips curled into a satisfied smile as he inspected them. Yet, his expression then turned serious; his task was far from finished.
With a graceful wave of his hand, several precious treasures materialized in the air before him:
- Thousand Life Wood
- Essence Genesis Stone
- Heavenly Wave Essence Drop
- Supreme Light Stone
Four treasures from heaven and earth, each one more valuable than the last, not any less then the Yin Essence.
Liang began to form intricate seals with his hands, causing runic energy to envelope the four heavenly treasures. Over the course of another week, the treasures gradually dissolved, transforming into four streams of light that entered Liang’s body.
Time seemed to stretch endlessly as Liang remained in deep meditation, showing no signs of disturbance.
Then, without warning, a powerful aura erupted from him, so immense that any expert witnessing it would be astounded.
