Chapter 343: You Have Me

It was a new day.

Since today is a special day, Lucivar slept like a log last night inside his own room.

Nobody disturbed him.

Now that the targeted city has fallen into their hands and their people sacrificed in flames—the Blood Priests and Blood Nuns, along with the others, plundered the fallen city. All of their riches would now belong to the cult.

Lucivar and Morriva only needed to give their blessings and let the people do the rough parts.

Before the sun was up, he was already awake, right on time.

He woke up Nerissa in the other room, telling her to shower and meet him outside the cathedral.

As for Morriva, she was already awake.

It was unclear whether she stayed up through the night or woke up earlier than Lucivar.

But when Lucivar woke up, he found her in the main hall, seemingly in prayer.

“I thought you had already forsaken the Blood God.”

Lucivar commented, sitting on the pew to put on his shoes.

He didn’t care whether Morriva still believed in the Blood God or not.

As long as she obeyed him without question, he didn’t care how she spent her free time.

Morriva opened her emerald eyes and glanced over her shoulder.

Her gaze found Lucivar’s, their eyes locked for a brief moment, and then she smiled.

“Who says I’m praying?”

“Oh, in that case, I apologize for assuming. Come, we have things to do.”

Outside, Lucivar headed out of the city and stepped into the woods.

He went further away, only stopping when he found the distance from the city was far enough.

Looking around at the glade, Lucivar nodded.

“It’s good enough. Nobody would see us here, not that the people dared to follow us, though.”

“What are we doing here?”

Morriva looked around and found nothing, only a glade in the middle of the woods with the sun right above them. She expected Lucivar to give them a mission, but it does not seem to be the case. If it were, he wouldn’t have brought them this far away.

Just when Lucivar was about to answer, he saw Sha appearing nearby.

“Stay put. We’ll wait for Nerissa.” fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

He approached Sha with his brows raised.

Sha appeared a few meters away from him, which showed that she had something important to say.

Since Morriva could sense her, it’s best to keep a distance between them.

“What? What is it?”

“Someone attacked Leandra back home. It’s those avatars, they are on the move.”

“So, they are eager to get a piece of me. Not exactly as planned, but I anticipated this.”

Lucivar nodded, already having foresight of something like this happening.

“Did she die?”

“No, she was able to survive long enough until Zibbo came to help.”

Hearing this, he nodded firmly.

Even though he would be physically unable to help the others, that didn’t stop him from having a way to still help them in case of something like this happening. Other than promising Delilah to protect them from danger, this also accomplishes one thing that he was wondering.

“Good Gods, my ass. They are aiming at the people close to me, and that’s a total evil move.’

Lucivar grinned inwardly.

No matter how strong he became, no matter how dark he became, the Angel side of him remained.

Not in the way that made him want to do good.

But in another way.

It was the dark strand he had always seen, warning him of approaching danger.

Lucivar had known that someone was aiming for him not long after Caldaros’ death, and the dark strand even showed a gleaming thread, one that showed him the person who wanted to kill him was someone very special.

Another avatar.

Using that information, he stationed Zibbo near the academy.

Other than leaving to train and see Morriva, there was another reason for his departure.

He wanted to see whether the others, Ravenna, Leandra, Mirel, and Bakar, could be used as baits.

And now, with this, he knew that they could.

It was the reason for the grin crossing his lips right now.

‘The stronger and older a person is, the harder it becomes for them to change. A Hybrid that inherited the power of a God to become an avatar surely has pride running through their veins, blinding them to the truth. Sunna’s defeat wasn’t luck. It was competence.’

‘Never use evil tactics on me… I’m always two steps ahead in that department.’

Lucivar tested the avatar, and now he had a clear idea of what kind of person he was dealing with.

But then, he frowned.

‘So, it wasn’t Leandra who tipped my location to Horus? Then, who is it? Ravenna?’

Since Leandra was attacked, the chance of her not being the traitor was increasing.

Last night, when he realized that someone had betrayed him in favor of the opposing avatars, he thought it was Leandra. Because of that, he thought his test wouldn’t matter since if there’s a traitor among his close ones, the opposing avatar wouldn’t attack them.

But reality showed otherwise.

Leandra was attacked.

So, the traitor might not be someone that close to him.

Even then, he trusted his instincts more.

Instead of scratching Leandra completely from his suspicion list, he moved her aside.

He’s going to keep watching her, but will not focus on her fully.

After all, this could’ve been a fluke by Leandra and the opposing avatar to fool him.

To not make him suspicious of her.

“Is there any way for me to talk with Zibbo?” Lucivar looked at Sha expectantly.

In order to really know what the truth was, he needed to talk with Zibbo directly, to know exactly what happened that night when Leandra was attacked. Words alone can’t give proper insight as speaking directly with the witness.

Sha paused for a second and looked down at the ground before her.

Sand gathered like a mini sandstorm.

Emerging from its depth was a glowing crystal that shot out light from one end, shaping into something.

Someone.

It was Zibbo.

“Lucivar? What’s this? Is it some kind of long-range communication?”

“No time for questions. Tell me everything that happened last night.”

Zibbo instantly turned serious.

He knew that this was not a simple matter, seeing how Lucivar’s expression was as hard as stone.

And as requested, he recalled what happened last night to the very last detail.

From when he arrived at the academy, what he was doing, what he was feeling, until the incident occurred.

Zibbo made sure to tell everything that had transpired.

Once he was finished, Lucivar closed his eyes.

He was thinking, taking the new information from Zibbo and considering how he said it to consideration.

“You said there was an eye above the student dormitory that stopped time, and the attacker is a man?”

“Yeah, I saw it with my own two eyes. As for the man—tan skin, golden eyes, golden tattoos running down his arm, taller than you, and most certainly more handsome than you.”

“Fuck, was that necessary?”

“Don’t be mad at me, boss, you’re the one who told me to be detail. If you made it clearer, I woul-”

“Alright, alright, no need to fucking explain. Continue.”

Lucivar rubbed his forehead, wondering if he had been too lax on Zibbo.

But the most frustrating thing was that he couldn’t argue since he asked for the details, every detail.

“I caught him off guard and landed a solid hit, but if we fought head-on, it’d be a close match.”

“Hmm, he’s weak, then that means he’s only a Vestal.”

Surely, the real avatar would’ve been at least as strong as Caldaros.

And since Lucivar already tasted the avatar’s fangs recently, the avatar must be stronger than Caldaros.

A lot stronger.

“Alright, good work. You can go now.”

“I’ll try locating him. I’ll keep you posted.”

As soon as the light disappeared, bringing Zibbo alongside it, Lucivar looked down.

Based on Zibbo’s story, the incident seemed genuine.

Leandra looked genuinely troubled by the Vestal’s appearance—when Zibbo arrived, and she was desperately trying to get away. Since she doesn’t know about Zibbo being a Vestal, she wouldn’t know that he’d be there.

It meant that her worry was genuine, not a lie.

‘Leadra is most likely not the traitor, I can be sure of that. So, is it Ravenna…?’

His face hardened.

Ravenna was the last person he wanted to kill since she’s very useful in every way possible.

‘Why? I can’t think of a reason why he’d do this.’

As he was fixed in thoughts, Nerissa arrived.

Her hair was still wet from showering.

“I’m here. What are we going to do today? Are we going to attack another city?”

“No.”

Lucivar turned around and approached her with steady steps.

“Today, we’re going to train. Like I said, both of you are going to help me win.”

Both Morriva and Nerissa exchanged a look.

It would be their first time fighting the underling of another God, and their natural response is fear.

Gods aren’t someone powerful, but all-powerful.

Being brought up to worship Gods, be it the Blood God, Strength God, or whatever God the rest of the Supreme Houses worshipped, the notion of going against Gods—made their entire bodies tremble. So bad that even Lucivar noticed almost instantly.

But he wasn’t angry.

He was also the same, weak and hopeless, but he trained himself to be strong piece by piece.

And that’s exactly what the two of them are going to do.

“You’re scared—and that’s completely fine,” Lucivar smiled assuringly. “It’s what this training is for: to sharpen your weakest part. Besides, your instructors aren’t in any way inferior to your opponents. Even better, all of them are better.”

“Instructors?” Nerissa tilted her head, confused.

Lucivar stepped back.

And soon, Morriva and Nerissa saw two creatures appearing from thin air.

Gandr and Sirrush appeared.

Since a Vestal’s power stemmed mostly from their connection to Lucivar and to the God behind him, it would be beneficial for them to get accustomed to Gandr and Sirrush first. Both of them would act like a trial, to prepare Morriva and Nerissa to see a glimpse of Loki and Tamtu.

Lucivar already asked them about this, and they were happy to help.

After all, his triumph over Caldaros made these divine beasts’ trust in him grow.

So, none of them were reluctant to help.

‘I say that, but Sha is making me worried. She’s obeying me without saying anything, which was very unlike her,’ Lucivar glanced over to where Sha was earlier. ‘Is it because we’re fighting Horus? Sutekh’s nemesis?’

Focusing back on Nerissa and Morriva, he saw them still scared and hesitant.

But he was prepared for this.

“Besides, the two of you have nothing to be afraid of. You have me…”

Out of thin air, something appeared in Lucivar’s hand.

Lucivar raised that thing and showed it to Morriva and Nerissa, a wicked smile donning his face.

Seeing the thing, the two sucked in a cold breath.

It was the decapitated head of a man, Caldaros.

“I’ve killed one of them like a pig before, so I’m surely able to kill a few more pigs…”
