Chapter 51: The useless husband.

Come morning, apocalypse was the word of the day. It was what every news station was reporting. The interest had multiplied as other countries experienced tsunamis too. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

It was like the oceans and seas had woken up and simply chosen to revolt against man for all the wrongs committed against them. These were the exact words that Pastor Salem used in one of his broadcasts.

His believers were already rallying around him and speaking out against President Finch. Secretary Ceaser had taken it on himself to deploy the military in every city to keep the people under control.

This was trending on the internet along with how much stocking was being done by individuals that felt the need to show off their supplies to others in short videos and live broadcasts.

Others were showing off their bunkers, zombie make-up, offering advise that was useless as they had no idea what was coming. Moon’s prophecies had conveniently left out the mutant monsters.

Sunshine thought that all those people that were showing off their supplies were fools. They would be some of the first people to be attacked by marauders. In the end, most of them be killed trying to protect their supplies or hunger would lead to their death. And the acid rain and other weather conditions could be forgotten.

Sunshine was watching the live broadcast of a businessman who owned a very large safe house with enough supplies to last him at least ten years.

"I have been gathering these things for fifteen years." He shared.

Sunshine whistled.

Hades leaned over and peeked at her phone. "Alex Takumi, survival expert." He identified the man.

"Takumi...Takumi..." Sunshine repeated the name. She had heard of that name in the apocalypse, but she could not recall why precisely so she gave up and paused the broadcast. "Is there anything that we forgot to stock? It looks like we will have to fight physically if we want supplies from now on."

Hades could not think of a single thing that they had missed. Their lists had been cleared. He had even enlisted the help of Owen, Dwayne and others. Whatever they added to the list, he got. "I think we covered everything and if we did not, I still have contacts that will deliver. Things are a little dangerous outside right now. I think we should leave for Westbrook before Ceaser Rommel put the military in the airspace and bans flights."

Sunshine sat up and her eyes widened. Come to think of it, this happened. "Crap! how could I forgot that. You are right, we should leave before that mad man decides to take control of the country in the chaos."

Hades leaned against the table and crossed his right leg over the left. "I was just taking a wild guess but am I right?"

Sunshine nodded. "President Finch apparently had a heart attack, Vice president Shannon Jeffrey and her family had already moved to their secret bunker. I don’t know about the others, but Caesar took charge, and he did stop planes from flying." Her lips twisted to the side. If her facts were not off, Vice president Shannon was already in hiding.

"In that case, let’s move the last supplies into your space and leave for Westbrook. Some of the builders run away after the tsunami. We will need to do some of the work ourselves from now on." Hades pushed himself up.

Sunshine waved her hand and took into her space everything in the bedroom. Only an empty space was left and soon, the rest of the house would be in the same state.

Thousands of people were gathered outside the gates of The Last Beacon church. Many had come with luggage. Others had posters expressing support or disdain for Pastor Salem.

Chaos and noise were their companions and the core believers outside and inside the gates of the church faced off with the police and military that had been parked outside since the previous night, waiting to arrest the Pastor and his prophetess.

There was more support for Pastor Salem than opposition with all the chanting, praying and signs being held up.

A large billboard sized banner was being held on both ends by a group of believers, and it said:

THEY CALL HIM FAKE--WE CALL IT FAITH IN ACTION

Someone was holding an eight-foot-long free-standing banner that proclaimed:

IF THE ROBE FITS, LET HIM REIGN.

A small neon sign was placed on top of a police car which read:

MIRACLES DON’T NEED RECEIPTS!

Pastor Salem opened a church window, and he waved to the crowd which happily screamed.

Then, he closed the window and said to Moon. "Go change into something a prophetess should wear, none of that skimpy stuff which makes you look like a hooker. We leave in an hour."

Moon walked straight to her small apartment in the staff housing behind the church. There, she found Cassius seated on the floor shading a cartoon figure.

When she saw him, frustration bloomed in her heart. They had long left the Quinn residence and yet he continued to act like a fool and remain unhelpful. It was very frustrating.

Deliberately, she stepped on his work and even broke a crayon with her heel. She could not out rightly express her displeasure because she did not want to be like Sunshine--to arouse his anger and end up dead in the apocalypse.

Rowena’s eyes filled with disgust upon seeing Cassius throwing a toddler like tantrum. "Why did you marry this fool again? He is baggage I suggest that we dispose him off. Hades can have him if he wants to, I really hate having to carry him around and hand feed him. For heaven’s sake Moon, your father has to wipe his ass after he goes to the toilet. We never had to do such disgusting jobs when we lived in Quinn manor."

Dunstan agreed. "Your mother is right. We should have demanded for his servants to follow us when we left. We should have left in a dignified way rather than running off. We were not popular with the Quinn’s but we were safe so I think we should return. Pastor Salem is a lunatic; he beat you up so badly yesterday and nearly shot you dead."

Moon stepped into a bedroom first and quickly threw on a white dress before rushing back. "First of all, Salem may think that he is using me, but it is the other way round, I am the one using him. Someday, I will make him pay for the beating. As for Cassius, he is my husband. I will hire one of the fools from the church to help us out. I am their divine prophetess, so they are dying to kiss my feet and show me their loyalty."

A loud derisive chuckle came from Cassius; he rotated to face the window.

Moon moved and crouched next to him.

"How long are you going to pretend to be a fool? I know that you can clearly understand me. I told you that I am willing to be your partner. Why must you keep pretending to be a fool?" She clutched a handful of his hair.

She let him go, made a beeline for the bathroom and returned with a bucket of steaming hot water.

"Get up or else i will empty this bucket on you." She ordered, though her order fell on deaf ears.

Eyes cold, Moon doused Cassius’ folded legs in hot water. Even her parents were terrified by her heartlessness.

"H-help m-me." A raw butterfly cry tore from his throat as he scrambled away in the direction of the bathroom, but he fell.

Moon tossed the bucket aside. "Oops! I guess you were not pretending."

"H-home...i-want home." Cassius cried out.

Straightening her hair, Moon gazed at her parents. "See, he understands." She touched his head and made her voice gentle. "I am sorry husband; I just wanted you to prove to my parents that you are not a fool. If they throw you out, how will you survive in the acid rain? I am your support. Just trust me." She kissed him on the cheek and left.

Her parents followed.

When the door closed, Cassius shut his eyes and took in all the pain. "Stupid bitch! You will pay for this." He managed to say, a scathing look fixed on the door then, he took out his phone and called someone.

The prophet and prophetess stepped out through the main doors of the church, their supporters and believers cheering and singing songs of salvation.

Lifting banners aloft, the congregation stood united behind their leaders.

Moon waved like a queen. These people would all be her slaves soon.
