Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies-Chapter 497: Forced imposition
Chapter 497: Forced imposition
However, before Lei Qian could ask Bai Meiyue what was wrong, he noticed Fox and Dacheng standing in front of her. Realising that they were here for trouble, he rushed forward and came to a stop in front of Bai Meiyue. He turned around and looked at Fox, who was smiling at him and asked, "And why are you here? I do not believe we have done anything for this unpleasant surprise."
"When did I say that you have done something? Is this a confession?" Fox questioned with a tilt of his head. His smile never wavered, even though he was standing in front of a high-level ability user. He stayed where he was standing and looked at Lei Qian.
"It’s not a confession but a simple question. There is no need to play detective with us when you are a thief yourself," said Lei Qian, not budging an inch while standing in front of Bai Meiyue. "Now, why are you here?"
"Just a little something," Fox replied. His smile creased a little as he stopped Dacheng, who was about to shoot forward and confront Lei Qian. He turned to look at Dacheng and remarked, "I know you are in a hurry to make some contribution to the base, but there is no need to be in such a rush."
"I apologise," said Dacheng as he lowered his head and stepped back, but as Fox turned around, he lifted his chin and glared at Lei Qian and Bai Meiyue as if it was their fault that he was getting scolded.
Fox, on the other hand, continued speaking, "I came here for two things. Firstly, did you hear about the explosion at the west port? Where the Xen community is located."
Bai Meiyue pursed her lips as she understood almost immediately that even though Yu Miaomiao had not pushed for an arrest, she was gravely suspicious of her, and the only reason she hadn’t reached out to hold Bai Meiyue accountable was because she didn’t have any evidence. After all, if she had any evidence, Yu Miaomiao wouldn’t have sent Fox to deliver the warning.
"We did hear about it, so what?" Lei Qian asked. He didn’t deny it because it would sound like a lie. After all, the explosion was a big thing, and it would be shocking if they heard nothing about it.
Fox’s eyes seemed to be examining Lei Qian from head to toe. After a while, he said, "Oh, it’s nothing. We just wanted to ask if you have something to do with it."
"If I did, then wouldn’t you know?" Lei Qian offered with a cheeky smile that matched Fox’s.
Seeing that the man was rounding the entire thing into circles, Fox knew that he would not be getting an answer from him. He scoffed and then said to Lei Qian, "And there is another thing that I need to tell you."
"I am all ears," said Lei Qian, his tone heavy with sarcasm.
Fox stopped smiling. Bai Meiyue could see that he realised that his sly smiles were not going to work on Lei Qian. He pursed his lips and then handed the document that looked like a fine slip in his hand to Lei Qian before saying to him, "This is the second time you threatened the guards and then broke the defence line to enter the base without paying for the supposed supplies that you need to pay for the security that you receive from the base."
"And what about the safety fees that I should have gotten when the base took advantage of the cleanup that my team and I did?" Lei Qian questioned with an innocent blink of his eyes.
Fox’s expression changed slightly, but he still continued in a calm voice, "Anyway, even though you didn’t hand in the frozen supplies, the base is willing to overlook this mistake of yours as long as you pay the fine. Which I think is not too much for you and your team."
When Bai Meiyue heard that Lei Qian had once again challenged the authority of the base, she was stunned. She raised her hand and pinched the man on the waist; even when she told him strictly that he shouldn’t do it, he still went ahead and did his own thing.
She knew it was hard for Lei Qian to accept someone governing him, but she had told him that it was just a matter of a few more days. Why was he still acting so stubborn? She thought in her head.
"Fine? How about I burn down the entire granary and deal with that attitude of yours? What protection are you even speaking of if there are people shooting innocent pedestrians to death? First, provide that you promise, then we can talk about the fine."
As soon as he finished speaking, Lu Yin, who was standing behind Fox, spoke up, "Brother Qian, you should understand that we are only doing this for everyone’s benefit. If you share your supplies, then everyone will be able to survive." She then glanced at Bai Meiyue as if the woman were the reason why Lei Qian was acting so selfishly. "You were not like this before, Brother Qian. You were kind and did many charities."
"Well, then the world was not ending, was it?" Lei Qian glanced at the woman behind Fox. In a short while, Lu Yin seemed to have gone through some really big changes, and Lei Qian didn’t understand how to feel about it.
He had watched her grow up in front of him, and the woman in front of him was nothing like the little girl he had seen in the past.
He said to her, "You don’t need to look at anyone. It’s my choice and I have enough brains to make one." he then turned to look at Fox before saying to him, "What about it? What if I don’t hand the fine over, what will you do, eh?"
